VCC BOP KLAXON SEPTEMBER 2024

CHAIRMANS CHAT

Heard of the saying 'Give a busy Man a job?' Very appropriate what with an interesting and varied workload with all things VCC of late. I remember one of Bruce McLaren's mechanics telling me that Bruce had a sign on his office door which read - 'B. McLaren. Manager. Don't knock - There's not that sort of time!' Now I understand...

The reasons for the fairly frenetic pace has been manyfold during the past month. Your hard working committee knew that they had a fair amount on their plates for the month of August and thankfully we were pretty organised. The high level of energy output at first was related to hosting the VCC AGM. This was a big job associated with a steep learning curve for many of us - but we delivered and the feed back from the 'Powers That Be' was excellent. On that note a big 'Thanks' to the hard working AGM Committee and many others in our branch who displayed cars, delivered stuff and participated in the great conviviality evident at our Club Rooms at the completion of the formal part of the AGM.

No sooner had we finished with the AGM it was then hammer down to make this years' Daffodil Rally For Cancer' really fly - and it did! A great end result what with 200 cars turning up, 9 marque car clubs in evidence, rocker cover racing, food to Africa and what looks to be a magnificent cash tally of donations. Once again a Team effort and when everyone does work as a Team - good things happen! Hats off again to the Local Coordinators Raewyn and Trevor Hughes and not forgetting National Coordinator Kaaren Smylie.

The sharp eyed readers will notice that there's some changes in the Klaxon with regards to the list of Committee Members and those performing various other roles. This has come about by a recent bereavement and also some officers who have suudenly elected to move on. It's my duty to make sure that the train stays on the tracks and juggling with staff lists is not new to me. All I want at the end of the day for all of us is a dynamic and dedicated Team who work together well and enjoy what they do. If that's addressed everything else becomes easy and on that note it appears that Cruise Mode can be activated for a while to let people get their breath back.

I'll wave you Good Bye' now for a couple of months. Europe beckons and as always there'll be some car stuff involved. I'll probably have to buy another suit case for car parts over there as usual...

“Creativity is contagious. Pass it on”. - Albert Einstein

My wife and I started role-playing in the bedroom. Her favorite is The Sexy Librarian where I have to sit quietly while she reads a book.

When I was in elementary school we learned about a shape called a rhombus and that was the last time I ever heard about that shape.

My wife and I decided to never go to bed angry. We've been awake since Tuesday.

Someone just gave me half a peace sign. Weird.

Growing up, we knew Dad had had enough when we heard the recliner slam down. Kids these days will never know that fear.

My wife said: "That's the 4th time you've gone back for dessert! Doesn't it embarrass you?" I said: "No, I keep telling them it's for you.”

She said she missed me. Normally that would be good but she's reloading.

Being old is when you don't care where your spouse goes, just as long as you don't have to go too.

I met my wife at a singles night. I was surprised because I thought she was home with the kids.

I want someone I can share my entire life with who will leave me alone most of the time.

Yesterday I bought a world map, gave my wife a dart, and said, "Throw this and wherever it lands, I will take you on vacation." We're spending 3 weeks behind the fridge.

As I walk through the valley of the Shadow of Death, I remind myself that you can't always trust Google Maps.

VIC Application forms

PLEASENOTE:The application form for a Vehicle Identity Card has changed from a 7 page application to 15 pages. The extra pages relate to explanations regarding whether you receive a “DOMAS” or a “VIC”, depending on the state of the Vehicle at the time of the application. Go to wwww.vcc.org.nz, and in the panel on the LHS is the option “RESOURCES/ DOWNLOAD” accessing that will show “VIC Application”. Print the required pages and note the requirements for the photos.

It is suggested that you complete all the pages and then contact either RON ELTON - 07 5799621 or GEORGE HOWARD 020 40427624 beforesending the photos to Nat. Office Christchurch. This is to ensure the photos are as required and don’t get there before the paperwork, which in almost all cases has to be checked against the vehicle to make sure there aren’t any errors. Either of the VIC Officers are there to assist not hinder!

Invitation to the DGD -

Distinguished Gentleman's Drive in Tauranga

On Sunday 29th September, we warmly invite club members to register for the drive for cars older than 40 years old.

HOW IT WORKS:

On the same day, thousands of drivers around the world start their engines to drive for a very good cause.

Each local event is organized by passionate volunteers, (Roger and I in Tauranga) with the united goal of raising funds and awareness for men's health for our charity partner, Movember.

Drivers register on the Gentleman's Drive website https://www.gentlemansdrive.com/ and are encouraged to create their profile to share amongst their family and friends with the goal of raising funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health.

Once registered, Drivers receive their private drive information for their local event in Tauranga, taking place on Sunday, September 29th 2024 to celebrate their fundraising achievements. This is where drivers connect with their fellow DGD participants at the start and end location, with a fantastic drive in between.

Drive details are only accessible after completion of registration.

Vehicle eligibility : for vehicles 40 years or older
