Activities are increasing as the weather improves. The Rally for Cancer was very successful, as was the delivery of the daffodils to businesses and the University. The P60 P80 PWV rally was run through some of the steeper and twistier roads around the city then out to Dunback for lunch and awards.
Last Thursday's lunch was at Kaitangata where the attendance was good as was the meal. There are a number of events coming up as you will see in the Calendar of Events
Also coming up is a training day for those members that check our vehicles for a VIC application. This is open to all club members to attend and could be handy for those that are restoring cars etc. The date is October 25th at 10am for approx. two hours.
Happy motoring, Graeme

Tēnā koe Vintage Car Club Otago Branch, I want to express my gratitude for your wonderful donation of $1,500.20, raised from your Vintage Car Club Rally on Daffodil Day.
Your donation will ensure Kiwis receive vital support and allow us to continue life-changing cancer research, impacting future generations.
Through our services we strive to alleviate the physical, emotional, and financial burden that families face during their cancer journey. Specifically, your support enables us to provide the following essential services to families through Otago and Southland:
Practical Support: We offer practical assistance, such as transportation to medical appointments, free accommodation for patients and their families who are travelling away from home for treatment and support to navigate the health system.
Emotional Support: We provide access to counselling services, support groups, and psychological resources to help families with the emotional challenges that often comes with a cancer diagnosis.
Information and Education: We offer comprehensive information resources, educational programs, and workshops to ensure families have the knowledge they need.
Once again, thank you for your generosity on Daffodil Day. We are honoured to have your support and work together to support families impacted by cancer.

Correspondence:
Dear Branch Secretaries,
At the recent Annual General Meeting in Nelson I was appointed as the South Island Club Captain, which is a huge honour for me. I thought the best way to start communicating was to introduce myself. I have been a member of the Vintage Car Club since 1976 and have served on the Otago branch committee including stints as Club Captain, five terms as Chairman and also the Branch delegate on the National Executive.
My working career has been in the finance sector.
As the South Island Club Captain it is my role to assist the South Island Branches as and when required and to provide assistance / guidance when you are hosting either a National Rally or AGM and especially with the changes to the Incorporated Societies Act and how that affects you at branch level.
My preferred form of communication is email - I will endeavour to respond to you in a timely manner however please understand this may not always be possible. If the matter is urgent please do not hesitate to contact me via cell phone. My contact details are as below.
The management committee has a monthly Zoom call so should you have a matter that you think should be raised at one of these meetings please email me the details.
I look forward to working with the "mainland" branches and visiting you when I can.
Kind regards
Mark Wilkinson, South Island Club Captain

As we move into Spring and daylight savings, I am starting to get a good number of Entry Forms for events that other branches are holding over the coming months. These will be emailed to you all. Otherwise let me know if you need a copy. Also our own calendar is starting to fill up with various activities happening. The committee is needing some willing helpers to assist with many of these events. They can’t happen if we don’t have the helpers.
Thank you to all of you who have already indicated your assistance for the National Veteran Rally in January. Meetings will be arranged prior to the event to go into the planning of the duties that have been assigned.
Annual Membership Invoices for the subscription year 1
November 2023 - 31 October 2024 have now been emailed to all members with an email address and posted to the remainder of our members.
For those members who have had the invoices emailed to them, please remember to check your spam/folder as our National Office bulk emails tend to end up there. If you add the VCC bulk email address nationaloffice@vccnz.nz to your safe addresses list, then this should prevent this occurring again in the future. A number of invoice emails have bounced back as undeliverable, and National office is working their way through them. Some email clients have rejected their emails as they suspect them as spam due to recent tightening of their spam filters. For those members National office is resending the invoice from their admin@vcc.org.nz email address and they seem to be getting through. Where the invoice bounces back as undeliverable due to the email address not existing etc, then the invoice is being printed and posted. If you have any query about the subscription invoices, please don't hesitate to contact Linda at National Office.
Weekday group for the ladies of the branch
I have had a request or two from the ladies in our branch asking it there could perhaps be a monthly get-together at the clubrooms or wherever, for a cuppa, crafts, or whatever thoughts you ladies come up with. Let's talk about this and come up with a plan.

2023 PWV P60 P80 Rally Report
17th September started a rather miserable day, but thirteen willing drivers and their passengers arrived at the clubrooms for the PWV P60 P80 Run. After the briefing on the rally route, we departed at 11am heading to the Dunback Domain where, thanks to Gavin Meads, we had access to the NZ Motor Caravan clubrooms for our lunch, which was very much appreciated because of the weather. Thank you, Gavin.
After a few narrow roads around Dunedin we headed out to Waitati via Mt Cargill Road then onto SH1 to Palmerston and then to Dunback.
After lunch Mark Wilkinson gave the answers to the Quiz that he had prepared for the rally. The winners were presented with their certificates by our chairman: Graeme Duthie
PWV Kevin Fowler with his 1950 Jowett
P60 Kevin Casey with his 1968 Wolseley
P80 Stu and Lynn Neill with their 1989 Toyota Corolla
Thanks to all who took part in the Rally and to Mark for helping with organising the event.
Kevin Mason
Footnote: Rumor has it that another branch member, who was not on this particular event, was spotted in his Model T in Waikouaiti having ‘got lost’ en route to Macreas for lunch on the Sunday. He had left Danseys Pass with a group of others using a map to guide him along the intended route. Having navigated some gravel roads and a ‘ford’ in the rain and wind his paper map had begun to fall apart due to the rain getting in. He had had to resort to cable ties to help hold his hood and side curtains down. He had found the better track home via the coast as the rest of the group battled with high winds and eventually torrential rain motoring back to Dunedin via Middlemarch.
