February 2024 A Welcome this month to two new members. Tom Whiteside of Waiwera South who has an interest in cars and tractors. The latest project is a 1951 Jaguar ex North Island vehicle in 2 tone blue. Colin Moir of Balclutha has a Chevrolet 1929 Tudor 2 door – we look forward to seeing these gents at our meetings and events. Betty Souness has advised that John is unable to come along and participate in Club activities now due to his health. John and Betty have been wonderful supporters and enjoyed many outings in their vehicles. Another mixed weather month, even had the fire on for a couple of days. A while yet before we change from daylight saving on 7th April. A lot of events have been happening so hope you had the opportunity to take part or get along to see the vehicles. I really enjoyed all the Veterans on show at the Outram grounds. Good to catch up with people I knew and see the pride the people had in their vehicles. The organisers did a great job indeed. I don’t remember the make this car was but I found it quite intriguing with not much protection from the elements.

Another one was this Darracq. A large vehicle and quite

Chairman Robin reports he has been to the Edendale Crank-Up and enjoyed a great day out. There were many Zephyrs of varying Mk’s and a range of Vintage vehicles too. Robin went on the Wednesday Run with Ian & Wilma as his car is needing some attention. The Gore Rally he intends to take the Plymouth Some snippets from Bill Cross Here is a story from C. G. Charlie Richardson Around 1930 Charlie remembers going for his license to Billy Woods. The local inspector ‘Can you drive? ‘Yes’ says Charlie ‘ok’ license on the spot Charlie at nearly 90 years of age has never sat a driver’s license. Up until the 1920’s everyone walked or had a horse and buggy. Charlie recalls a funeral at Stirling in 1917, for the well-known citizen A. E. Farquhar, when a great crowd of people attended, mostly on foot, walked behind the hearse to the cemetery, except for the odd horse and trap. And William Lovie’s hearse was the only motorized appliance.

impressive.

Sadly a member has passed away since our last meeting. Owen Frew from Milton took part in many club activities over the time of his membership. The Mk2 Zephyr Owen drove was among a lot of vehicles he owned over the years. A Toyota Hi Lux was well used, cart racing enjoyed and tinkering with things motor related happened over his lifetime. Owen worked at the
