November 2022 October meeting night the business was dealt with and a visit to a local car restoration business followed. It is a few years since we last visited Jason Brookland, he now works from the large building that was once Windward Skins opposite where the Railway Station was. Jason has many vehicles in varying stages of work and it was interesting to hear about the work he does. The last Wednesday run was held on the 2nd Nov. weather was good and about 19 people and 12 cars took part. From Balclutha the trip was to Clinton then on to Owaka via the Owaka valley. Country side was looking good. Afternoon tea was held at the Caitlin’s Inn. Beautiful fresh sandwiches, savoury muffins and biscuits. Very enjoyable. 50th Anniversary Annual Clutha Rally Well the day finally arrived all but one year late. Saturday 12th November was fine, not too hot and no rain. Rally entrants came from Timaru to Invercargill to enjoy the day. Morning tea was followed by a warm welcome from Robin McCall and a short rally briefing from myself then the 55 entrants were on their way. They travelled the first half around the north side of Balclutha, crossing state highway 1, thru Benhar, Stirling, Inch Clutha, and Kaitangata then heading back to Balclutha where the long and short routes separated but still headed to our lunch stop at Hina Hina via the Nuggets but in slightly different directions. The lunch stop was the end of the competitive section of the rally and everyone enjoyed a leisurely lunch break at the Fishing/Yacht Club. Entrants then made their own way back to Balclutha via Owaka for afternoon tea, the cutting of our anniversary cake by Malcolm Thomson(A 50th year badge holder), and presentation of certificates for the winners. Overall winner of our 50th anniversary rally was Star McDougall from Gore. The raffles were then drawn – thank you to David and Kathy Renton for their organising and putting together of the prizes. It was very pleasing to hear the positive comments by a good number of the entrants who had enjoyed the rally route and day. A lovely meal at the Town and Country was enjoyed by 76 people to conclude our 50th anniversary rally which had been a great day.
