Printed Mag Available

Printed copies of our monthly magazine, Taupo Torque, are now available from Copy Solutions in Taupo!

We email the magazine to Copy Solutions each month, so if you would like a copy, you can visit Copy Solutions in Taupo and purchase one of the following 3 options:

Black and White A5 Booklet

Printing Tips

Although you can print this magazine to A4 (either actual size or scaled to A4), this magazine has been set up in A5 format. This allows you to print 2 pages up on an A4 or even a booklet if your printer supports it.

If you open the magazine file in Acrobat Reader, and select file>print, under Page Size and Handling (see image below), you can print multiple pages per sheet. Click File>Print>Multiple>Pages per sheet> 2

If your printer supports printing both sides of the paper, you can also print a ‘Booklet’. Which allows you to print, then staple and fold up into an A5 magazine.

Here are some more informative links and videos to help:

Mid Winter Pot Luck Dinner

Our yearly Mid Winter Pot Luck Dinner was again most successful, with a group of 30 enjoying a delicious meal, amongst excellent company.

Murray Hutton our Master Chef for the night, capably sliced and presented a delicious ham to add to the feast. This was donated by the committee.

Thank you members who joined us, providing as always a varied selection of homely, scrumptious meals.

TAUPO VINTAGE CAR CLUB

supporting the Taupo Cancer Society

Sunday’s fundraising efforts for the Taupō Cancer Society were well supported again this year by our members, friends and families, and the hot rod club. The car entry fee to the show and shine, plus the raffle, netted the Society $568.40, and when banked, that amount will be generously matched by the ANZ Bank, so a net gain of $1136.80. A great result. Maurice Gianotti, our Taupō Cancer Society representative who supported us on the day, was very pleased with the result.

Many thanks to all those who volunteered their time (in whatever form), arrived early and helped run the day. You know who you all are and I won’t start naming you for fear of leaving someone out. So, pat yourselves on the back. A special thank you for Timeless Taupō for their advertising on their radio channel. I didn’t hear their ads but believe they were every hour. A thank you from the club will be going to them.

This year we did not advertise in the newspaper. As many of you would know, Taupō Times has been taken over by the Herald, and for them, it was a moneymaking exercise to support us, and last year‘s advertising cost the club quite dearly. This year, we used social media via our Facebook page, word of mouth, emails to our members, and flyers, which some of you put out and about in the community. I feel this worked well for no cost. One chap turned up after seeing our event on Facebook and then saw Elaine in her Hillman coming to the clubrooms. He turned up and donated $20.00 and left as he had something else to attend.

We easily had over forty cars come along to the show and shine and it was great to see such a diverse range. The weather was kind and it stayed fine and wasn’t too cold. Even the wind stayed away. It was great to see everyone standing around chatting and mingling.

The raffle was drawn prior to our run, and was one by one of our members – Lynette Doree. Congratulations.

Around 13 cars participated in the drive to Licorice Café. The rally sheets were not marked as it was all for fun, but one sheet shown to me from Gillian Curly was one hundred percent correct. I hope everyone enjoyed this portion of the day with the further chatter, coffee, and lunch.

All in all, a great day. Thank you, everyone, for your support, your generosity, and commitment. As Peter Lockie said, ‘… Every one of us has been touched by cancer in some form or another.’

Heather

I had to get a photo of this beast, it reminded me of my boys. Trish managed to make them pay extra.

A great time had by all chatting away and catching up.

Our ladies did an amazing job to ensure everyone contributed on the day and got a daffodil.

The carpark was full!
Maurice looking after the table.
Best dressed car by the Manningtons. Amazing job guys.

New Editions for Barry Hoffman

A walk past Barry’s garage last week revealed two new projects.

Sitting in one corner...... is a 1928 Austin 7 Chummy, which has been off the road since 1987. It looks like rather a big job ahead.

And in the opposite corner......there is a MG TC which is already a work in progress. It is receiving a “Barry Once over Twice” recondition, after 7 years off the road.

WATCH THIS SPACE!

I may have to increase my number of walks along that particular route now.

The Embroiderer’s Guild

of Taupo’s 40th Anniversary

Early in August, our members were invited to join the Taupo Embroiderer’s Guild to celebrate their 40th year together in our clubrooms.

Graham Mock, our Club Patron, clearly remembers the day Val Moore and Jan Watkins (both Embroiderers and VCC members) approached the committee with a request to hire the clubrooms

Forty years on, this lovely celebration was held. Elaine, Heather, and June Mock joined me for a most enjoyable afternoon, meeting past and present members. It was a relaxed mixture of shared memories, formalities, and presentations, together with an ongoing delicious High Tea.

Displays of beautiful stitchwork, which included a Wall Hanging representing significant places in Taupo (even our clubrooms and a vintage car), were an added highlight to a very special event.

2025 South Island Club Captain ’s Tour

Welcome to our first tour. We hope you will enjoy your time with us and take in the scenery along the way.

There are two routes - tar seal (by request) or mix of seal & gravel for those of you who wish a little more adventure. These will be noted in the rally instructions which you will pick up at registration on the first night in Dunedin.

While we would love you to join us for the whole tour, you can join or leave at any stage –please note this on the entry form.

Please bring your Thermos and picnic chairs, there will be times when there is need for a coffee break and there may not be a café in sight. A tow rope maybe handy in the event of a breakdown.

We have possession of the wooden spoon used on previous events and it is eager to be of assistance during happy hour for anybody silly enough to be putting their head at the wrong time. Happy hour is important as it allows us to catch up at the end of the day as well as getting the low down for the next day. Along with happy hour we will also have a short briefing at the start of each day’s motoring to confirm the route you plan to go on that day. Please let us know the night before if you plan to leave at an earlier time.

Our noggin on Friday 11th April will be at Otago VCC Clubrooms, 125 Forbury Road, Dunedin at 6.30pm for registration and finger food dinner.

Should you need to contact us at any stage, my cell phone number is 021 168 6068 and Nicola’s 021 180 3225.
