Printed Mag Available
Printed copies of our monthly magazine, Taupo Torque, are now available from Copy Solutions in Taupo!
We email the magazine to Copy Solutions each month, so if you would like a copy, you can visit Copy Solutions in Taupo and purchase one of the following 3 options:
Printing Tips
Although you can print this magazine to A4 (either actual size or scaled to A4), this magazine has been set up in A5 format. This allows you to print 2 pages up on an A4 or even a booklet if your printer supports it.
If you open the magazine file in Acrobat Reader, and select file>print, under Page Size and Handling (see image below), you can print multiple pages per sheet. Click File>Print>Multiple>Pages per sheet> 2
If your printer supports printing both sides of the paper, you can also print a ‘Booklet’. Which allows you to print, then staple and fold up into an A5 magazine.

Chairman’s Report for November 2024
Christmas is almost upon us, folks. No doubt many of you are thinking ahead as to what is to transpire during the festive season. An array of social functions are taking place, from work-do’s to club functions. I hope many of you have paid for our Christmas Lunch on December 8th. I look forward to this event as it is something a little different for us. The thinking was that if the event were held on a Sunday, the poor souls who have to work on a Saturday would be able to attend. However, I guess there are some days that do not suit everybody. I look forward to seeing many of you on the Eighth.
As usual, breakfast at the beginning of the month was well attended. This event, along with the coffee morning, attracts a reasonable and consistent crowd. Club night was an interesting and well-attended evening with the 2003 version of The Italian Job being shown. It was an entertaining evening which again produced lots of chuckles when Murray appeared with his well-made ice cream tray, very much like the cinema of old!
The monthly club run was out to Rangitaiki Tavern, some 40 kilometres southeast of Taupo. It was a first for many of us.
A crowd of about 17 vehicles participated in the run, which was a really good turnout. The weather was good, and our members enjoyed a quiet beverage before the
food arrived. Even though the management was aware that we were coming, the kitchen did not engage any extra staff, and the food was very slow to come. Once the meals did turn up, they were very tasty. I have no doubt that some of our members were somewhat disappointed. I have no doubt that it was particularly disappointing for Murray, who had organised the trip and had been out there previously to check things out.
Members will be pleased to know that hall maintenance continues unabated. Lawns are being mown, light bulbs are being replaced, Donna, our cleaner, carries out her tasks every Thursday morning, and our tenants continue to be respectful. We would, of course, prefer more tenants, and advertising has been undertaken to try to address this problem. We have one new group coming in one morning a month starting next February. I am also very pleased to advise that Twyla Birkbeck has assumed responsibility for hall bookings. She has developed a computer-based diary for bookings. I am very grateful for her offer and met with her recently to provide as much background and support information as possible. I’m sure we all wish Twyla well in this task.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and safe travels wherever you may go.
Eric

The Hospice House Run
A lovely Spring morning set the scene for a drive in our vehicles with Hospice guests.
After a scrumptious morning tea, which was provided by the friendly Hospice volunteers, we lined our cars up ready for the guests to choose which vehicle they would like to ride in.
We had a very busy morning going out for a pleasant run, then back to collect the next group that was waiting. Quite a few had rides in several cars, with some having owned cars the same as ours. Lots of reminiscing and interesting stories were shared.
Some of the volunteers came along for drive as well.
A very enjoyable morning for both the drivers and passengers.
