Chairman’s Report for the 2022/2023 Year:
It gives me pleasure to present my Chairman’s Report at the 49th AGM of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Branch of the Vintage Car Club. With Covid restrictions etc all well in the past, we have had a very good year of Vintage Motoring events.
It is now 49 years that our Branch was formed 8th October 1974 as a sub-branch of Rotorua, although our Incorporated Society Certificate was dated 25th August 1975. So whatever date is used our 50th Anniversary is coming up fast.
For interest the 25th Anniversary AGM was held 27th May 1999.
I am more inclined to use the 8th October 1974 as the date our Branch was formed as it fits in with the 25th Anniversary AGM held 27th May 1999.
Although our Branch’s history goes back to 1963 in fact we have Minutes from the 20th February 1963 Meeting where a Chairman and Committee were chosen, so our history actually goes back some 60 years.
Membership:
Currently we have 104 Branch Members which is about average for our Branch, which means we are holding our own. We have had 7 new Members, 2 Members Resign and 2 Members pass away.
Activities:
This year we have had 29 Club Events. Monthly Runs usually arranged by different Members to places of interest, car shows or displays.
Mid-week Runs, thanks to Harry and Gaye for arranging these, we have seen some interesting places and have had some great lunches. The Classic Car Breakfast which isn’t really a Club event but is on our Calendar of Events and is very popular with many of our Members and is usually well supported.
The highlight of our year is the East Coast Rally, down on numbers this year but enjoyed by all of those that participated. Thanks to Margaret and Phil and their helpers, well done to you all. This year we travelled to Gisborne for our annual get-together which we have been doing since 1986. Gisborne Branch come to us next November.
Daffodil Day went off very well, there were 16 Members cars on display and dozens of other vehicles.
We hosted Central Hawke’s Bay Branch for dinner at the Paroa Rugby Clubrooms, as part of their trip around the East Coast. Continued ... .2.
Once again we had Christmas lunch at Harry and Gaye’s home after the Kawerau Christmas Parade.
We had the Chairman’s Run and other displays and visits to places of interest. Also other Rally’s and Events Members have participated in. So we have had an excellent year of Club activities.
We have not had a Club Captain for a number of years, although Karen and Mark have sent out details and reminders of events and runs. Generally events are arranged at Club Night although some Members have taken the initiative and arranged a run for us.
But the good news is we will have a Club Captain this coming year.
This coming year we will also have a new Chairman, we have a keen younger man willing to take up the role. Please give them both all of your support.
I haven’t mentioned the Parts Shed, but I am sure the Parts Shed Group will have something to report, we must thank the Bryson Family for the continued use of their land for our two containers.
A few things that as a Branch we need to think about: 50 year celebrations. The new Incorporated Society Act. The Constitution which will need to be up-dated. And coming up are a few Members due their Service Badges.
Thanks to all of the Committee Members and all of the Members that hold ancillary positions, it has been a pleasure to work with you all.
Thanks must go to all of those Members that attend or have taken part in our Meetings, Rally’s and Events. I appreciate all of your support.
It has been my pleasure to have been your Chairman for the last couple of years and I thank you for your help and guidance.
I wish the new Chairman and Club Captain and new Committee well for the coming year.
As we have now had our AGM we have a new Chairman, Bevan Lange, also we now have a Club Captain, James McCarthy, it is great to see these younger Members step up to take on these positions, well done you guys

People just minglingThere were 11 cars, 5 Vintage and 6 moderns. The sheds are very well set out and the lady was very informative. They have done a lot since we were there last. Everyone was impressed and brought back lots of memories. The lunch at Kapi Kai was very enjoyable.
