Daffodil Rally Day, after missing last year because of Covid, it was great to see the sun out and a great number of vehicles on display from different clubs and groups. Some vehicles were old, some were almost new and many in between and one downright ‘crazy’ . They made a magnificent display. Thanks to Joy and Steve, Karen and Mark, Bevan and their helpers for putting in the effort they did to make the day the great success it was.

Chairman’s Report:

Well the cars are washed and checked over after quite a bit of use this week, mostly personal but with a Rally chucked in on Saturday. Lawns are mowed, chores done, well some, so it’s time to write a few words.

It’s a pity the Cancer Society collectors didn’t start collecting until the cars had returned from the run, hence they only collected around $100.

Steve and his helpers have put the roof on between the two parts containers. An excellent job all round, now they are thinking a coat of paint on the containers would brighten it up a bit and protect the containers from rusting and maybe a door between the containers for a bit of security and to tidy up the front, so we look forward to those little jobs.

Nobby’s Nosh, which has been a dinner event since the mid 1990’s and I believe only missed two years because of a low response, a pretty good effort from past and current Members. Thanks to Karen for arranging this year’s dinner at the RSA, where we had 20 Members enjoying drinks and dinner with great company.

The Classic Car Breakfast was down a little overall, maybe the weather forecast put some people off attending, but we, our Branch had 7 cars on show, so pretty good.

Our Branch on the other hand collected $1,010.20 for the Cancer Society from Registrations and Donations. We had 18 Members vehicles on display including a motorcycle, a great effort by all. Continued . . .

Sunday 30th Club Run to Rotorua Lake Front Car Display

Rotorua Sulphur City Rally, Steve and Joy, Mark and Karen, Gail and myself went on our first away Rally for some time (Covid got in the way). It was great to see Rally friends we hadn’t seen for some time and to catch up on what they had been doing over the last year or two. It was a neat Rally just follow the instructions, no silent checks, no straight line navigation, no timed section, just questions and a gymkhana, great roads, great scenery, great company and great Asorganisation.itwastheir

50th Anniversary they, I am told, had a great Rally/Anniversary Dinner, we were unable to be there. But congratulations Rotorua Branch for achieving this milestone.

Daffodil Rally for Cancer

The 2022 Daffodil Rally for Cancer, hosted by the Eastern Bay of Plenty Vintage Car Club was a huge success with over $1000 raised for our local Cancer Society. After a week of rain, Sunday 21st was a beautiful sunny day and car lovers of all kinds turned out in force to support the annual event. Although the event is hosted by the Vintage Car Club, all car enthusiasts are welcome at the Daffodil Rally and the local community were keen to join the fun. With so much variety on show, members of the public were able to enjoy an impressive car display featuring the most diverse collection of motorbikes, hot rods, performance cars, classic cars, and vintage vehicles you are ever likely to find in one place. A cruise through town and out to the Whakatane Heads gave vehicle owners an opportunity to appreciate the long awaited sunshine and enjoy a drive with friends before returning to The Hub for the car display. A couple of minor mechanical issues resulted in rally participants partaking in some very entertaining push starts but that’s all part of the fun when playing with old cars right? We can be sure that owners of the many modern (and reliable) performance cars in attendance were thoroughly entertained by the spectacle of vintage car owners working together to get the old cars on the move for the parade through town. Members of the Vintage Car Club would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this year’s event so successful. Local business owners helped by displaying posters in shop windows and local media organizations showed overwhelming support for the cause in helping to promote the charity rally. Club members would also like to thank the many vehicle owners who came out on the day in a wide variety of interesting machines for everyone to enjoy. Members of other local motoring clubs including the Whakatane Rod and Custom Club and The Whakatane Ford Falcon Club showed plenty of enthusiasm and this support is always greatly appreciated. With spring just around the corner everyone is looking forward to a fun season of motoring and the Vintage Car Club has plenty on the calendar for the coming months. The Vintage Car Club caters for owners of vehicles of all makes and models that are over 30 years old and new members are always welcome. Contact information for our local club can be found on the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand website.
