CHAIRMANS REPORT

Hi guys

Had an interesting meeting at the last meeting with our club able to Donate Cancer money (which we have worked hard to obtain) to Liz from the Cancer Society timaru. Its great to be able to hand over a Donation knowing we have contributed to something that is most dear to our hearts. There are suggestions amongst members of what we could do for next year's Daffodil day. You will have to watch this space for this one. For those new members and others that attended the last meeting I would like to apologise for the way it was conducted this was to do with the heat pump. I will promise that this will not happen again. Looking forward to John's 50th anniversary on the 15th October. Let's make this another successful function. Also Lyn has organised a car run on the 16th October. We haven't had a run for a while so let's go do it. Took my Imp back to the original owner in Waihola this last weekend. WOW they were blown away to see the car they cared so much for back on the road and loved again. The imp went well apart for a fuel block at Waitati. Able to get to the top of the motorway and with full chock down the other side fixed that problem. The just before waihola the oil light came on (whoops) turned out it was the oil switch that was at fault. After that the trip went well. Time to sign off.

Cheers Owen

John first joined the South Canterbury branch he was there until the forming of the Waimate Sub branch. He was and is a very active member. Johns first Car was a 1928 Model A pickup which for many years was his only means of Transport. Over the 35 plus years of Ownership he Restored it and Attended every Rally. John was the Instigator in getting Our Clubrooms which was the former Waimate Museum, He also arranged for the Wright family Holt Caterpillar tractor to be brought back from the North Island, This was one of 137 that came into the Country in 1924 and was put to work at Waihao Downs Waimate. Over the past 50 years of Johns Membership he has held Almost every position in Our Club, Chairman on and off for 10 years, first in 1985 and then his last term 2007 to 2010 A good Testament to his Loyalty, John stills holds the position of National Delegate for Our Club. Also over these 50 years he has Organized many Rally's and Trips and Done a lot of Work behind the Scenes.

SO FROM ALL OF OUR MEMBERS JOHN A BIG THANKYOU.

FOR SALE

1905 Siddeley Project project 18hp inlet over exhaust eginned car. Almost complete looks like it could be driven, but a lot of work still to be done . Has 4 new tyres 875 x 105 some restoration work done.

Any Reasonable offerconsidered, it owes me over $20,000.

It is a very rare car believed to be only one of this model in the world. It will motor well as a side valve Worsely Siddeley will cruise at 40-50 mph.

Please save this car from going as scrap, as I can not store it any more.

Could swap for a BSA motor bike veteran, vintage or later/

LIBRARY REPORT

Siddeley Autocar Co

1902 Siddeley Autocar Co of Coventry, was founded by John Davenport Siddeley. Its products were heavily based on Peugeot, using many of their parts but fitted with English-built bodies. The early vehicles were actually made by Vickers at Crayford in Kent.[1]

1903 January. At the Motor Show they displayed the 1824hp (four-cylinder) and the 8-12hp (two-cylinder) cars with Peugeot chassis and running gear. Also 1 12-16hp (four-cylinder) and a 6hp (single-cylinder) from their collaboration with Vickers.

1905 January. Details of the 12-hp two-cylinder car. Built by Vickers at Crayford.[2]

1905 January. Undertook a 5,000 mile trial run with Sidney Girling and A. E. Sutcliffe driving.

1905 February. Details of their 6 hp light car.[3]

1905 April. Details of the Gordon-Bennett racing car built for them by Wolseley.[4]

1905 This company merged with Wolseley and made stately Wolseley-Siddeley motorcars. They were used by Queen Alexandra and the Duke of York, the later King Edward VII.

Not to much to report this month, I have been to Timaru and picked up some donated books from the South Canterbury Branch librarian. Also my neighbour has donated some books so our collection is growing.

A kind member has donated some shelving materials so I can build more shelves into the rooms

( thanks Jim)

I have started the Maxi recently and went for a short drive. The battery is getting a bit “Dozey” and it always a 50/50 chance whether it will start or not from cold.

There has been no interest from members re: the library books or use of the maxi but we will keep working on it Brett

Chairman Owen Duthie presenting Liz Wigley Local Cancer Group with $1668, Proceeds from Sausage sizzle/car display/ car boot sales, Movie night, and Swap meet Takings, Liz then gave a Wee Talk on how Important it is to get Checked.
