Hi to everyone.
It may be a bit late but happy new year to all members. We ended 2022 with a great Xmas get together with a car rally first then met up at the Waihao Forks Hotel. Thank you to those guys at the hotel for putting on a great lunch for us. I think those who attended were impressed and thanks to Lynn for organising the car run. From there it didn't take long for 2023 to come around. Starting off our events kickstart motorbike run was organised by Peter and Barry with 36 motorbikes attending from chch to invercargill what a fantastic day and I must say a huge thanks to those club members who help put on morning and afternoon tea. It is important that the enthusiasm of those members leads to the total success of the day. The next event is the Wallaby rally with the entries starting to come in. Another team effort will be required to also make this day a success. There seems to be a bit of confusion for those people who paid the fees for the Wallaby rally prier to covid and didn't have fees refunded like myself. Just a simple phone call to Robert (689-8103) to re instate that money for this year's run makes that confusion go away. The club rooms are also going to get some attention. A new spouting on the rear of the parts shed and a new window on the front of the club rooms. Thank you to Peter Bootsma and helpers to bring the grey cat 22 tractor to the club rooms. Good effort. Waimate members. We require 8 to 10 cars to take the senior citizens up to look at the white horse. Let me know at the next meeting if you are able to help. Well must turn in now catch up with you at the next meeting on the 16th February.
Cheers Owen.
2023 Kickstart Motorbike Rally
Our inaugural Kickstart Rally is done and dusted. It was held on Saturday 21st January 2023. The rally had 36 entries with 35 participants on the day. The oldest bike being a 1924 Harley Davidson from Oamaru. The furthest travelled was an entrant from Kaikoura and he rode his Triumph Trident bike down to Waimate. The rally started with a get together, registration and morning tea at the club rooms. The first ride got underway around 10.30am with the long ride - a 100km ride through to Otaio via Hunter then off the main highway to Old Ferry Rd then on back roads to the Waihao Forks Hotel for lunch.
After lunch it was the short run of 60 kms ride to the club rooms for afternoon tea and certificate presentation. The king of the rally was Russell Dale from Timaru with his 1927 Indian and the Forks Hotel publicans choice award went to Bruce Watt from Oamaru on his 1952 Mac Vello.
The rally was well received with lots of great feedback about both rides and lunch.
Looking forward to next year, on Saturday, 20th January 2024.
Cheers
Peter

Xmas Run 2022
On the 11th Dec we had the Christmas run followed by lunch at the Waihao Forks Hotel.
The run was a mixture of tar sealed roads and gravel which tested us all.
The buffett lunch at the Waihao Forks hotel could not be faulted and think we struggled to get through all the food provided.
And I will finish up with the note the run organises finished up with which best describes the run.
This is not a soft arse run there is some single nothing to rough, a few fords all have concrete bottoms. If you don’t want to use your car properly drive around Seedon square for and hour and we will see you at the Forks
