CHAIRMANS REPORT
Hi it's been a great month for activities with a good number of Members turning up and taking part and helping on the day., that's what it is all about , first off the Henry Ford day with 13 cars on display at Seddon Square. It was a great morning meeting new people and having a chat. Thanks to those members who organised that event. From there we went out to The Forks Hotel for lunch always a great lunch stop. Thanks to Steve, Daffodil Day at Seddon square was also a great success. With 18 cars turning up,.
To Jill, the young lady that dressed as a daffodil, a big thanks to you for raising funds for the Cancer cause, I must say it wasn't that warm Cheers Jill. Saturday night was the quiz night good turnout and a great time to be had. Thanks to Steve and you're for managing the evening. Sunday was the Nifty 50 day with 18 small bikes turning up. People from as far as Timaru to Oamaru attended the Run. What a great day and very successful Fortunately weather with it was kind. After the run it was time to have a barbecue at the club rooms. A sausage sizzle, just what we needed. Thank you very much for those members and their wives for cooking the BBQ for the Riders. Watch the space to all members for further nifty50 events. John Dawson has been busy representing Waimate at the national AGM in Nelson cheers John. There has been one person that has been hard at work advertising to make the monthly events successful ,thank you to Maureen Donaldson for doing just that that's it for this month
Cheers Owen
next meeting 21st September at 7:30 p.m.
Brush Automobiles
Just a little information about my 1909 Brush Model D (maybe 1910 there is a lot of overlap of model years)
Alan Partridge Brush (1878-1952) actually worked for Cadillac and designed manly motors for them and Oakland before leaving in 1907 to form the Brush Runabout Company with Frank Brisco of Maxwell - Brisco fame .
Cars Trucks and vans were made from 1907 –1913. Aprox 13,500 were made. Four are in NZ .
Innovative designs included but are not limited to the following:
• Engine turns left so that a right handed person will not get a broken arm if it kicks back while starting (still hurts)
• Coil Springs (extension not compression Type) and shock absorbers on all four wheels. Brush was the first to do this.
• The Planety transmission pre dated the Ford Model T.
National Veteran incorporating 70th Dunedin
Brighton Run 2024 Entry Form-
The Entry Form for the 2024 National Veteran Rally incorporating the 70th Dunedin Brighton Run is now available.
The registration information and entry forms can be accessed simply by going to the VCC NZ website, clicking on 'National Events' and scrolling down to our event.
The entry form is designed for completion online but if the Secretary wants to print off copies for the less tech savvy, they simply hit the option.
Please let myself or the Rally secretary Trevor Kempton know if you have any issues with this format.
NB: If anyone is interested in attending the Prince Henry 3 day tour following this event please contact my self or Nevin Gough for further information

BBQ for scooter run riders by Waimate members
Sunday NIFTY 50 SCOOTER RUN
• The Chassis is made of wood as are the front and back axles which would be maple, hickory or oak (it varys a lot on specs)
The engine is a water cooled single cylinder side valve of 1030cc developing a whopping 10hp.
It is factory fitted with a Kingston 5 ball carb.
The transmission is a multiplate clutch working a planety system with 2 gears , very low and a high. Reverse is also fitted.
The transmission runs to a jack shaft come diff with sprockets for a twin chain drive, so the sprockets can be changed for road conditions., 2 wheel rear only brakes (very effective)
There is no water pump or fan so idling can cause a steam up , it clears once moving, and rarely boils just do not go too slow anywhere.
This car was restored in the 1950’s in the USA and spent a large part of its life in a Texas Museum before Dale Conlon brought it into NZ in 2005.
Dale and Jenny motored it extensively and after joining Dale on a rally I was able to purchase the Brush.
I also used it for mainly events and as shopping hack but managed to wear out the motor out.
After a long and expensive rebuild I will hopefully be able to get out and about again
In case you are wondering Top speed is (no speedo) aprox 30 mph. It will go faster with the bigger sprockets on but it is to high geared for around town

DAFFODILL Rally For Cancer 2023
CAR DISPLAY SATURDAY SEDDON SQUARE
Quiz Nite Saturday
On the Saturday a very successful Quiz nite was held, run by Steve and assisted by his yellow cancer fairy Jill.
I was so engrossed in answering the questions forgot to take pictures.
For our team the Australian import was no help in answering the many questions on our neighbors across the ditch.
