I have attached a few photos that I took so you can all enjoy what was a very informative enjoyable run. Thank you all.

I personally felt very much in awe and humbled to be standing alongside these unusual, majestic, ancient examples of Gods creation. I am sure we were all impressed with Phil’s knowledge and obvious love of New Zealand native bush and modern and ancient NZ trees it proved to be a captivating walk. To this point the rain had just been light, a pleasant drive through the rich farmland and back intoHokitika and to the warm Kitchen cafe, who had been expecting us (thanks for this Phil) and had tables upstairs. They served a good, tasty looking selection of food and I was amazed at the speed and efficiency of the seemingly few staff who served us all.

LOCAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS AT A GLANCE 16 August 2022 Shantytown Morning tea 21 August 2022 Daffodil Day TBA 13 September 2022 Shantytown Morning Tea 25 September 2022 Club Run TBA July Club Run Report-thanks Zoe Gough Bruce and I joined the other intrepid members in various vehicles in Hokitika it was a damp day with a forecast of heavy rain, and it was pleasing to see such a good turnout. Phil was there to meet us all and gave a brief of what was planned. We set off in a convoy of course we chose to follow the wrong convoy and ended up doing the run back to front, luckily Phil and a few others (who did it the right way) were waiting for us to get to the Kanierie walkway where we would walk to see the Matai (Black Pine) tree. By now others had joined and we were all led in a small way down the track where we had to walk through quite dense new growth native forest. Phil took us to the 1200 1300 year old Matai and gave an excellent talk, covering this Matai and how its age was determined and then spoke about the 2 others close by. One around 600years of age (a baby) and the other fell around 50 years ago, decomposition is slow and on its massive trunk new life had sprung in the form of Rimu, ferns and other plants.

40th Anniversary VCC West Coast Branch We would still like to hear any ideas to mark our 40th anniversary for the committee to consider. If you think of something let one of the committee know.
