Meet in Kaeo by 10 am. Park on School Gully Road, roughly op the 4sq shop & have morning tea. There will be 5-6 km of gravel during the run which will get us to Whangaroa Sports Fishing Club for an early lunch. Parts Shed The parts shed will be open from 2 pm to 3.30 the day of our monthly meeting. For any ‘needs’ between meetings, please contact Peter Mason. March 8 Friday Cruising The Bays Tour The Club is running the BBQ, at the Museum, to cater for the Rod & Custom Club members on this tour. We will be needing our Club members to help with the prep work and cooking for this… sausages with bread. Time frame for this is 10 am to 12.30. There will be approx 100 people to cater for. There will also be a grand collection of vehicles to be viewed. Please contact Winston and let him know you will be there, to help. Our Facebook Page The link is: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id =61555518696477 The page has this cover photo.
From the Chair… The December meeting included the presentation of 35-year badges to Mike Pooley, Vince and Naomi Mason and myself.
Thanks to those who manned the stall.
The business side of the meeting was followed by social discussions and a look through the parts department. It was decided not to include the planned fun and games event…another time perhaps, as we ran out of time. A plentiful potluck lunch followed. Personally, I was very pleased to see two very original vintage cars with loads of patina – a 1929 Chev sedan and the Model A truck which had previously attended our open day/boot sale. While not to everyone's taste, I like to see such vehicles maintained and used even if not “restored”.
I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year. January started with the Hot Rod Clubs Show and Shine at Taipa, which several members attended with or without their cars (or trike, in Rosco’s case).
The parts people took a good selection from the parts department for sale and did a reasonable trade. Vintage Car Club of New Zealand
A fortnight later we had our picnic at Reid’s beach.
We had a good attendance, along with a great team-building exercise while putting up the gazebo. Win wasn’t there to supervise!
Northern Club Captain’s Report Once again, we have another year behind us and plenty to look forward to, in 2024. We hope you’ve all enjoyed the holidays or just the peace of staying put! We have recently lost George Richardson who has been a member for many years. On behalf of our Club, I extend to Janet and their Family our sincere condolences. Thank you to our members who have supported Janet. Our picnic was enjoyed by all, and it gave us a catch-up time with Members, which we all enjoyed. Many thanks to Ruth for enabling us to enjoy this perfect place, once again. Several swam.
At one stage the Ladies began to think it was a ‘Woman only’ function as the Fellas all disappeared around the end of the batch quietly. Contraband was suspected!
Some came in modern cars due to the threat of rain, which luckily stayed away for the event, but some got wet while traveling. Keith Vintage Car Club of New Zealand
Our February run will coincide with a vintage truck run which arrives in Kaeo from the Hokianga, on Saturday, 17th. We have organised a relatively short run to give us time after lunch, to look these vehicles over.
We will meet in Kaeo at 10 am. I am hoping that we can all park on School Gully Road which is roughly op the 4sq shop. Parking can be very limited in this town, and it’s always very busy! We will have morning tea and a chat, then head off on the drive. There are about 5 or 6 ks of good metal road on the run, with seal for the rest of it. There will be an early lunch at Whangaroa Sports Fishing Club. We will then have plenty of time to cruise back to Kaeo, view the trucks and visit the museum.
Many thanks to Rosco for getting the new page up and running. We have some good events coming up. If anyone is interested or has places of interest you would like to be included in runs, then don’t be shy in coming forward and putting your ideas ‘out there’. You won’t have to organise the runs if you prefer not to. We welcome your input & new ideas.
I send very best wishes and support to Trevor, who is presently managing health challenges. I hope to see you back at our gatherings ASAP, Trevor. All the very best to you. Marg, Claude and Tom and I will be organising the March Rally for Steve and Steph as they are away touring. They are currently hanging out at Wai iti, south of Nelson.
This is one of the trucks getting lots of care and attention before the event on the 17th. There’s plenty of action going on in our Club with some prospective new members who made contact with us at the Show and Shine event. Most of them didn’t know the Clubrooms existed and didn’t know who or how to make contact with us! The Facebook page has been updated in the hope our Club info is more readily available to people. Please post any photos you have from events on the page for us to all enjoy. If posting them is a problem, send them to me or Margaret I and we will get them onto the page for you. Vintage Car Club of New Zealand
Hoping to see you all soon. Marg D
Omnium gatherum… Thinking of you all who are managing health journeys every day and those who are working through both planned and unplanned major events in your everyday world. We send you, our support.
