It has come to my attention that a member of our Branch won a prize on a Farming Programme on the radio. Well done Noel Batty, better than School Teaching. That’s it from me for this Report. Trevor Begg.
Jim Lawton’s Run Sunday 12th November Leave Clubrooms 1.30pm Bring own afternoon tea Quiz will be held at end of the run 7
CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT October 2017 There are plenty of events approaching to keep us all amused, Jim Lawton’s Run on the 12th November followed by Ron Galletly’s Commercial run on the 25th November. This year the Vintage and Veteran only run will be in the form of a Workers Picnic, see below. The Annual Rally in January will differ slightly from that of last year in that the distance will be greater, but with the preponderance of later model vehicles attending our events this should not create any problems. It has become difficult to plot a rally route which will involve smaller distances, and which will not simply revisit venues which we have visited relatively recently. However, events such as the Veteran and Vintage only rallies are useful as events for those vehicles which struggle to cover the longer distances. Januarys Annual Rally also contains a charge for entering the lunch venue, while extra charges such as this are generally avoided, most of the interesting places do charge now. This venue is operated by a trust and I believe the charge is justified owing to the quality of the venue and the hospitality which is supplied. David Oakley.
Vintage and Veteran only Workers Picnic
The Ashburton Mill owners, Sweat shop, factory owners, and general slave drivers association have graciously agreed to fund a picnic for all workers who are gainfully employed under their auspices. All workers who have the energy to attend will be regarded with suspicion as they obviously are not rewarding their benevolent employers by expending all their available energy during the working week!!!!!! All workers who wish to attend are to gather at the VCC clubrooms at 1.00 pm on the 10th December 1930 (2017) Work attire should be worn as under no circumstances should workers pretend to aspire to the splendour of sartorial elegance achieved by their betters of the employing class. Approximate distance to be travelled return to Ashburton is 65km. Remember to bring your Picnic afternoon tea. ie: ploughman’s lunch and bottle of tea in a sock! This run is intended for vintage and veteran class vehicles only. (pre 1932)

Club Night Activity On the corner of Dobson St and Chalmers Avenue is “Lifestyle Motorhomes Ltd”, the venue for our September 21, 2017 club night visit. Twenty one members took the opportunity to listen to Murray McPherson talk passionately about the business he and his wife set up in 2001, changes over the time and the company going forward. He also took us on a tour of the facility where the twelve staff cover things including management, design and a range of trades (except painting). A major change over the years has been a move away from new builds to rebuild, repair and insurance work as well as compliance of imported vehicles and maintenance for rental companies. A variety of vehicle types come to Lifestyle Motorhomes for service, from all over New Zealand. For RV (Recreational Vehicles), Lifestyle Motor Homes offers the following to its clients – plumbing tanks and self-containment, gas and electrical certification, “Camec” parts and accessories shop, solar panels and batteries, electrical and LED lighting, satellite dish and TV’s, gas and diesel heaters and “Titan Roof Protection Membrane” application. Being able to walk through a variety of RV’s and have questions and queries answered in a knowledgeable, honest and friendly manner was a highlight for the group. Trevor Begg thanked Murray for giving members the opportunity to look through the facility and for providing an insight in to this growing leisure and tourist industry. Noel Batty

They were all started up for us, wow the noise and power of that Race car! A little bit more grunt than the Vintage Cars we have. It even had Rob Ross say that might take a bit more to fix than his tool box could handle. A good night thanks Manny.

SPRING RALLY REPORT
September 24th 2017
Hello fellow members. My name is Linda Parkes. David and I have been VCC members for many years, with our 1952 Morris Minor, 1956 Morris Minor Truck and 1971 Holden Kingswood. Over recent years we haven't been on many rallies due to work commitments. I have been asked to report on the Spring Rally, so here goes. Firstly many thanks to Peter Lambie and his trusted team of helpers for organising such an enjoyable day out. As we all know these events are time consuming to organise. A BIG thank you to one and all. A good turnout of 33 cars assembled at the Clubrooms on Maronan Road at 10.00 am, on a beautiful 20 plus degree day. What a great start to daylight saving, bring on more of the sunshine. Firstly we had the field tests, in which some of us (mainly us) need more practice at. Enjoyable and laughable even so. On leaving the Clubrooms we headed north towards town. Once over the bridge we turned right and headed down South Street, Chalmers Ave, Beach Road, Oxford Street and onto Wakanui Road, then out into our beautiful countryside. There’s nothing better than seeing the young lambs frolicking around in the paddocks. We travelled around the Wakanui countryside and down past ANZCO feed lot (the old Five Star Beef) down on the coast where the sea looked so calm. It was rather surprising how much water was still lying in the paddocks towards the coast . We ventured to the Pendarves area and slowly made our way to the Chertsey Primary School grounds. Once all parked, out came the chairs, tables and food for lunch, (I am told it is hard work driving). A lovely time to chat, laugh and reminisce on the past, it is lovely to see so many happy people. After a well-deserved lunch many of us headed back to the Clubrooms via the Ashburton Airport, Bridge Street, South Street and the Main Highway through Tinwald. Back at the Clubrooms we were provided with a lovely cuppa. A BIG thank you to all you ladies and men for a job very well done. Congratulations to fellow members who received prizes, great effort. It was very enjoyable day out with hopefully many more rallies to enjoy in the future. Linda and David Parkes ED: Thank you for a great report Linda sounds like a wonderful day out. 21
