Members will see our new flag in the clubrooms that Brian Bolland has been involved with obtaining. August club night will see a representative for Health and Safety to let members know of what this will mean to us when we are attending club events here and around the country. This will be an eye opener for some members to hear what has changed in this area.

Our Brick run will now be held in September so keep an eye open for this event.

CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT It was pleasing to see a good number of members attending the End of Registration run to the Stratford Mountain House last month. I hope you all enjoyed the outing. It is interesting to look back on this event in earlier years when we would drive up to the plateau car park to eat our sandwiches in the snow. The Cornwall and Terrill families would usually be the first to arrive and light a fire for us in the public shelter. Following lunch, most of us would hike up to the ski field which would take about 45 minutes. The higher you got often the snow was deeper and on the way down the ice took its toll causing us to slip and slide on our behinds. The Mountain House was then owned by Keith and Berta Anderson who were branch members and owned an Austin 7. It was customary to stop in for a glass of mulled wine to warm up before the drive home. I mentioned to members that we could perhaps try this next year but mostly got a negative response.

Sunday August 27 V C C National Daffodil Rally for Cancer. For this event we are working in conjunction with the New Plymouth Cancer Society who are giving us their full support We are planning a non-competitive rally taking just over one hour costing each entrant $10 which will be donated to the Cancer Society. Following this a vintage and classic car display will be held and some members are making their cars available for rides to the public which will raise extra funds. We hope this display will take place at the East End Reserve but this is still to be confirmed. If any central or south Taranaki members wish to organize a similar event in your areas please contact me otherwise you are welcome to join us in New Plymouth. Some members will be required for marshalling duties, if you can help with this please call me. I will give full details of this most worthwhile event in next month’s report. Saturday September 30 The Brick Run, more details later. Safe Motoring, John.

HI THERE I’m Rosie, your new Archivist I’d like to take the time To say hello, and also – say a little rhyme. All of us, that read this book, Are mad about our toys. Some of us are ladies and some of us are boys!! We go on runs and rallies, around the countryside, Enjoying all the scenery and of course the ride. We have Sunday runs and midweek runs, And Brick and Breakfast runs. We have an end of Rego run and a Rubber duckie too. Oh, of course, not to be missed, the Maunga Moana Rally. The members that plan all these runs Must be congratulated, because they are much appreciated. We also have our club nights, at which we have a natter. Then we finish it off, with a lovely cuppa. We also have “club room open” days But where are all those boys!! They’re in that blimmen Parts shed Searching Spare parts for their toys!! That’s the end of my wee rhyme, I hope you did enjoy. Cheers – ROSIE Branch Archivist

Midweek Run Thursday 25th May, 2017. A breezy sunny day. We all meet at the Normanby Hall. Twenty-three members were present. We were given instructions to arrive at our unknown destination. We saw smoke stacks in the distance and thought that was where we might be going, but we turned left on to Skeet Road then right onto Mania Road, and soon arrived at Dairy for Life Fonterra, Kapuni. We were signed in and taken into the board room. Our guide Brad presented a slide show. We were given a safety briefing and given safety gear to wear. We proceeded through several areas of the Factory. Fonterra’s Kapuni plant processes whey and permeate from dairy product around the North Island. Pharmaceutical grade lactose (milled, sieved and spray dried) is produced in the main plant which produces 50,000 tonnes of specialty lactose each year. It is used in tablets, such as Panadol and asthma inhalers. Then we proceeded back to the board room and were given a delicious afternoon tea by the company. Thank you, Ron and Margaret, for an enjoyable afternoon. Robyn Henry
