Chairman’s Report I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members a very merry Christmas and a real and happy new Year. It is hard to believe that another year has passed by. The club has had a very busy year and attendance at the various activities has been very good. We have had some very good parts sale in the Parts shed over the last six months and its all thanks to the parts team in preparing and advertising the parts for sale to a wider audience. Steady progress is being made on the upgrade of the toilet block at the club rooms by Brian Bolland and member helpers. The men's new urinals have been installed and the walls have been stripped and relined. The ladies toilets are nearing completion with new bowls installed. Next time you visit this area you will notice that the men's are where the ladies were and ladies are now where the men's toilets where positioned. This change will enhance and tidy this area up. The painting of the walls will finish this job off and make it all bright and tidy. The Christmas Parades have been well attended by members and the organizers really appreciate our efforts as the cars look really great and always stand out as the parades wind their way around the streets. I could not attend the Bell Block and New Plymouth parades but know other members did. The Waitara parade held last Saturday six members cars including Tidly Cox's Ford Model A all done up with Police logos on and Brian Bolland's Willys Knight with a big red bow around it. Thanks to all members who attended these parades. At our January Noggin and Natter we will have a BYO BBQ starting at 5.30pm so if you are not going on holiday come on out and have some New Year fellowship. Also the National Executive of the club will be here in January to inspect the facility's that we will show them for the big International Rally in 2021. They will be here for two days. As Rally Director 2021 I have included with this newsletter a letter inviting all members to signify if they would be interested in helping with this huge event and you will have the opportunity to advise me of your interests. This Team will have to have the dedication and willingness to commit for the next four years. There will be plenty of different areas that we will 2

need to cover, Remember it is now only four years to go for the "Rally Like No Other 2021" in Taranaki New Plymouth. Summer is supposed to be on the way but with this windy rainy weather that we are having makes one wonder however it is coming better and we will all be out and about in the warm summer days ahead. So keep the passion............keep to the left when out on the road..........Cheers...... Chairman Colin. CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT The Economy Run last month was well attended despite extremely wet weather. Starting from Inglewood we drove via New Plymouth to Opunake for our lunch stop. From there we travelled through Eltham and Stratford finishing at Inglewood, thus making a complete circuit of the mountain of approximately 95 miles. Most seemed quite happy with their cars economy (ours worked out at 31.5 MPG in the MG) Many thanks Les for an enjoyable day, let’s do it again. COMING EVENTS: Thursday 19 January B Y O barbeque at our clubrooms from 5.30 pm. Thursday 26 January Mid week run, we will meet at the East End Reserve car park on Nobs Line in Strandon at 1.30pm. We will finish at a café for coffee at the end of this event. Sunday 29 January A picnic Run out to lakes Rotokere and Rotorangi. Meet at Bath St Eltham at 10.45 am and don’t forget your lunch. Saturday & Sunday 18, 19 February The Vintage Hay Day is on again at Colin Honors farm Waitara Rd, we would like some cars to be displayed on the day. Sunday 26 February the Mini Vin rally at Waitara, see elsewhere for details. This is always a popular event which finishes at Colin’s home for afternoon tea and prizegiving. John

THE IRISH ANGLER (apologies to the Irish)

One of the floats assembled for the Inglewood Santa Parade

The rain was pouring down. And there standing in front of a big puddle outside the pub, was an old Irishman, drenched, holding a stick. With a piece of string dangling in the water. A passer-by stopped and asked, “What are you doing?” “Fishing” replied the old man. Feeling sorry for him the gentleman says, “Come in out of the rain and share a drink with me.’ In the warmth of the pub, as they sip their whiskies, the gentleman cannot resist asking, “so how many have you caught today?” “You’re the eighth”, replied the old man!! NEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD Older cars to be banned from Paris

POTTERS PADDOCK GYMKHANA There was a good turnout of cars for this year’s Gymkhana with the weather being kind to us. Due to heavy rain prior to the event the ground was rather soggy, causing some loss of traction to a couple of cars. Unfortunately, we were unable to contact Madeline Potter’s daughter Ngarie for the presentation this year due to her being on an overseas holiday. Many thanks to all members that competed and helped on the day.

All cars made before 1997 are to be banned from Paris under drastic measures to combat the city’s toxic smog. Classic cars are not The new laws, which came into effect in July, also ban motorcycles registered before 2000 from the city centre on weekdays. The plans sparked an angry backlash from bikers when they were proposed last year. The move is part of a larger plan to only permit vehicles that are less than 10 years old on the capital’s streets by 2020. Pre-1997 vehicles are thought to account for around 10 per cent of all vehicles in Paris, but generate as much as half the city’s pollution. – Daily Mail

MIDWEEK RUN NOVEMBER There were 10 cars, mostly Vintage or Classic, who did the midweek run on 24/11.We headed along Mawhiwhiti Rd onto Normanby Rd, enjoying the rural scenery, through Okaiawa until we hit Surf Highway 45.Then heading to our destination Pihama Lavender ,in the old Pihama Dairy factory. The present owners have had it for 3 years, it has 3 parts to it Lavender, Accommodation and a Gallery. We were given a history of the building and site.In 1897 it was the site of a flax mill ,which burnt down. Rebuilt in 1922 as a Dairy factory until 1967 when it was shut and turned into a piggery again in 1977 it burnt ,but not completely, leaving a glorious "courtyard " between Four buildings. Lavender oil is distilled Jan, Feb and March; It takes approx 1 hour to distill a basket of lavender into about 6oz of oil. As the Lavender was not yet ready rosemary was being distilled giving a pleasant aroma through the buildings. We wondered around the beautiful gardens, some of us walked down to the Punehu stream bordering the lavender to meet "Neil the Eel", before looking through the Gallery which houses lavender products plus Arts and Craft. After afternoon tea in the court yard we headed off in our various directions Home. A lovely Run Pihama Lavender worth a visit. Maxine & Albie Gordge
