Galleri Christoffer Egelund proudly presents “Fake Lanscapes” which is the third solo exhibition in the gallery, by the New York based Cuban artist Armando Mariño.
The titled “Fake Landscapes” are oil and watercolours on paper. The essence of those materials allows the artist to achieve a certain level of fluidity and movement, together composing an artificial, dream-like reality – something we can observe today. The works can become a way to comprehend the perplexities of the contemporary world. We happened to form a society, where significant issues and human relations are constructed in order to please, or sugar-coat the truth, instead of questioning it. The use of natural elements such as flowers is Mariño’s way of highlighting that superficiality. The “pretty” layer is a metaphor of a curtain thrown at the current affairs relating to politics, race, sexuality, ethnicity, etc.
