DECEMBER 2017 - While the colder weather is a reminder of brisk and leisurely winter days ahead, the real estate market in Metro Vancouver has warmed up, compared to last year’s sales recorded in October 2016. That upward spike of 35.3 percent totals 3,022 properties sold, which represents 789 more homes than a year ago. Look back a decade and those numbers yield a long-term average increase of 15 per cent. During this time of the year, families are starting to embrace our region’s natural playground by taking to the ski hills and snowshoe trails, making holiday plans and settling into activities around the home and in the neighbourhood. For many, these quieter times also are enticement to take advantage of the expanding offerings in the single-family home segment of the market. “Conditions continue to vary significantly based on property type. The detached home market is well supplied with homes for sale, which is relieving pressure on prices,” said Jill Oudil, REBGV president. Those considering putting smaller properties on the market and moving to a larger home can capitalize on favourable market conditions in the townhouse and condo markets, too. HORSESHOE BAY WEST VANCOUVER Many people living or travelling through Metro Vancouver are missing out on one of the region’s best-kept secrets: Horseshoe Bay. This iconic spot in the West End featured bathhouses back in its heyday but today it’s the launching point for kayakers, stand-up paddle boarders and events such as the annual fireworks festival.
