Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges Virginia Wesleyan is one of the fifteen private colleges and universities in the Commonwealth which have been elected to membership in the VFIC. In addition to providing annual operating support for member colleges/universities, the VFIC seeks grants to fund periodic workshops in teaching technologies and other areas of support for faculty members. A VFIC endowment provides the opportunity for a Virginia Wesleyan faculty member each year to receive a Mednick research fellowship.

GRANTS NEH, NSF, and Similar Grants The National Endowment of the Humanities and the National Science Foundation offer a wide array of grants to individuals, extended summer seminars, and similar programs. Announcements of these opportunities are provided through the office of the VPAA. Numbers of Virginia Wesleyan University faculty have participated in these programs. Further information is available from the Academic Affairs office. Fulbright Grants Persons who have an interest in pursuing a Fulbright Fellowship, or in bringing a Fulbright scholar to Virginia Wesleyan, should contact the office of the VPAA. Other Grants Faculty and academic staff wishing to pursue grants and awards from sources external to Virginia Wesleyan University must present their funding requests in writing to the Dean of their respective school before completing/submitting any grant or award application. Faculty and academic staff must provide the following information when making such a request: (1) names of the funding source, (2) purpose of grant, (3) brief written summary of the grant prior to development, and (4) amount of grant, including a budget summary. The Dean of each school shall review this request within 5 business days and respond to requester and copy the Vice President of Academic Affairs. If the Dean approves of this grant or award activity, he or she will recommend such grant or award to the Vice President for Advancement and Special Assistant to the President to review and make a final recommendation to the President. The Vice President for Advancement and Special Assistant to the President along with the Associate Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director of Alumni Relations will take into consideration several factors when reviewing this request including but not limited to: (1) all other grants or awards in process, (2) any matching funds requirements by granting agencies, (3) other financial implications for the university and (4) aligned with VWU’s mission. The Vice President for Advancement and Special Assistant to the President will review this request within 5 business days and present a final recommendation to the President. Vice President for Advancement and Special Assistant to the President will notify the faculty member involved and copy the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the respective Dean.
