Two young men who had a combined 15 years of experience in the furniture industry came together to share ideas that about problems they saw within the industry. Namely that customers were being taken advantage of in a variety of ways. Andy L. (from China), and Jeffrey M. (from Oklahoma) decided to enter a partnership, in Houston, Texas to better enhance the customer experience through no “high pressure sales tactics” and “honesty”. These two emerging ideas were understood to be a starting point in the Mattress Queen & More model. To genuinely care about the community they served, each family in the surrounding communities, and everyone that makes the decision to do business with Mattress Queen & More. Our primary goal is to provide a relaxed shopping atmosphere that cannot be copied because of who we are as a company. Within this atmosphere customers feel as if they are walking through rooms in their own home. They can visualize modern furniture in their homes and upon delivery, are treated with courtesy, and much appreciation from start to finish. Our goal, as a small business entity is to make a lasting impression on the hearts and minds of the people of Houston and surrounding cities, not a lasting impression on their wallets and bank accounts. We understand the times we live in, and our goal is to provide the best quality furniture and home décor at the most affordable prices. HOUSTON’S MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. MEMORIAL PROJECT NOW ACCEPTING STUDENT APPLICATIONS FOR ITS SUMMER 2017 STEM ENCHANTMENT V PROGRAM Program Overview The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Project in conjunction with the Black Heritage Society will sponsor and kickoff its summer 2017 STEM Enchantment V. The four week program will be held at Palm Center 5330 Griggs Rd., and will run Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 12:30pm starting June 21th ending July 21, 2017. The student enrollment application deadline is June 2, 2017. The program offers a learning environment that encourages students to identify and solve problems while increasing their knowledge in STEM related subjects. The major objectives are to educate, motivate, encourage, and prepare students to start thinking seriously about pursuing an education in a STEM related field in high school and on to college. Eboni Davis Director of the Martin Luther King Jr. STEM Enchantment program and 2 student mentors from the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Project will work closely with approximately 30 middle school students giving them a deeper understanding of computing, mathematics, science, and engineering concepts. Some of the most powerful lessons for young students are in activities designed to enrich and expand their learning through active practical exercises in problem solving. The program will focus the integration of computing with mathematics, science, engineering and reading. This year the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Project plans to enchant our students by teaching computing and STEM in a manner that integrates computer coding on a gaming platform. The STEM Enchantment will provide a hands-on learning experience that allows each student the opportunity to build and program their own game. The students will attend workshops and laboratories where they will participate in a world of constructing games and software that drive devices, collect data, compute results, and display graphics while learning mathematical skills in data analysis.
