blackpool resort pass

Entertaining three children aged between one and 11 can be a tricky holiday challenge. Seasoned Blackpool visitors, the Mellor family, knew exactly what to do. Armed with Blackpool Resort Passes they set out to take advantage of all Blackpool has to offer. This is how their adventure unfolded:

We love the Resort Pass because it gives access to an array of amazing attractions from rollercoasters and water slides, to zoo animals, sea creatures and daredevil experiences. And it’s all at an affordable price! The sun was shining on our first day, so we headed straight to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. It was easy to push our 21-month-old son, William, around the theme park in his pram, although he wasn't in it for long after seeing all the fun rides and characters at Nickelodeon Land. The water boats that took us on Dora's World Voyage were magical. For seven-year-old Gracie, The Blue Flyer and Nickelodeon Streak coaster rides were a real hit while my husband

meet the family - some holiday snaps from our fabulous featured family!

As Illuminasia is only a five-minute walk away, we finished off the afternoon with a trip to the world’s largest indoor illuminations experience. It's a visual feast for little ones! and daredevil Sophia, 11, ventured into the main theme park to sample the thrills and spills of The Big One, Infusion and the new Red Arrows Skyforce which lets you spin in the air in your own cockpit. The facilities were great with spacious baby changing rooms and loads of different choices for lunch, which we enjoyed while watching the spectacular Dancing Water Show. The next day we got up early to head to the Sandcastle Waterpark. William and I splashed around in the shallows while my husband took the girls on the slides, with Aztec Falls, the Masterblaster - the world's longest indoor rollercoaster waterslide - and the Sidewinder quickly becoming their firm favourites. Then we had a fabulous afternoon meeting our favourite celebrities at Madame Tussauds; especially Ant and Dec in the I’m A Celebrity themed area which has an interactive maze and even a Bush Tucker Trial!

Visiting Blackpool wouldn't be complete without a trip to the famous Blackpool Tower so, after leaving the pram in the handy buggy park, we headed to The Blackpool Tower Circus as a final day holiday treat. It was a thrilling show packed with heart-in-mouth high-wire stunts and gymnasts performing energetic plunges, flips and somersaults. The children adored the stars of the show, Mooky and Mr Boo, who had them in stitches with their slapstick antics. There was just enough time to go to the top of the Tower to step on to the 5cm thick glass SkyWalk, high above the Promenade. We all braved it, except my husband, which can only mean one thing – we will just have to come back to Blackpool again!

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is to build a new £16.25m rollercoaster codenamed 'Construction 2018'. It will be the UK’s first ever double-launch coaster – an advanced technology that gives the roller coaster two powerful thrusts of acceleration during the ride. ‘Construction 2018’ will feature the most number of interactions in the world with 15, involving five different rides and two tunnels. The rides it will interact with include the iconic Big One, the Steeplechase, the Big Dipper, the Pleasure Beach Express and the Grand Prix.

Key Ride facts Total Length – 1.14 KM Total ride time – over 2 and a half minutes Max Height – 88.5ft Height of Drops – 82ft Max Speed – 80 KM/H Max Acceleration (Vertical) – 4.3G

the promenade

Stanley Park is one of the jewels in Blackpool’s crown, quite simply a masterpiece of landscape design and historical splendour. You’ll find plenty to occupy all ages, with a children’s playground, trampolines, a boating lake featuring Aqua Zorbs. You can try your hand at pitch and putt or brave the BMX race track. If you are looking for something a little more relaxing, then take a stroll around the Rose and Italian Gardens, or simply sit back and enjoy the live musical performances from the bandstand, or a spot of afternoon tea at the beautiful Art Deco Café.

The world-famous Promenade has attracted visitors since Victorian times….and it’s easy to see why. From the majestic views and tranquillity of North and South Promenades to the hustle and bustle of Central Promenade, there is so much to see and do. A £200m investment in recent years has revitalised the seafront making it a great place to stroll, cycle, and skateboard, take a landau ride or simply wile away the hours. You can mix with the crowds between North and South Pier, laugh along with the Comedy Carpet, take in the sun on the Spanish Steps leading to our award-winning beaches or find a quiet spot to take in the intoxicating sea air.

Blackpool illuminations

Blackpool’s light railway system was the world’s first permanent electric street tramway when it opened in 1885. Today it has been transformed in to a state-ofthe-art travel experience, carrying passengers along the seafront between Starr Gate to the south of Blackpool to Fleetwood in the north. And if you want to take a step back in time why not take a trip on one of Blackpool’s glorious Heritage Trams which run alongside the contemporary trams.

More than three million people make the annual pilgrimage to see the six miles of Lights. There have been amazing technological advances in the display in recent years, not least through the launch of LightPool, a project aimed at reinventing the Blackpool Illuminations. This has seen the introduction of five new 3D projection shows which are beamed on to the iconic Blackpool Tower buildings. Free to watch each night.

Blackpool Transport

revitalising the transport network in Blackpool Visitors to Blackpool in recent years will have seen a dramatic sea-change in the quality of Blackpool’s public transport systems – and there is more to come.

Not only does the resort have a super modern fleet of European-style trams running the length of the coast to Fleetwood, there is also the first batch of high-spec buses running throughout the resort. By 2020, operators Blackpool Transport are aiming to revitalise the entire fleet of 140 buses serving Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Coast with modern, fuel-efficient, low emission vehicles. This is part of an £18m investment programme which includes £7.7m of funding secured from Blackpool Council, who are the transport operator’s sole shareholder. 2015 saw the introduction of 10 high specification Mercedes-Benz single deck vehicles equipped with WiFi, USB charging points, leather seating and

wood effect flooring. This was the first introduction of the Palladium brand and set the quality benchmark for future investment. In 2016, the transport operator added a further 10 double decker vehicles to its fleet, the ADL Enviro 400 City Bus which was the first of its kind to be seen outside of London at the time of launch. Branded in the Palladium livery and carrying all of the same specifications which has come to be expected the vehicles have received praise from both customers and industry professionals. Looking towards 2017 and beyond, Blackpool Transport is looking to bolster the fleet with a further 25 double decker vehicles in the first quarter of the year.
