CHIESA S. MARIA DELLA NEVE (CHURCH)

CHIESA DI SAN GIOVANNI BATTISTA (CHURCH)

SANTUARIO DELLA MADONNA DELLA CERIOLA (SHRINE)

SACRA PIEVE S. ANDREA - CHIESA DI SAN SILVESTRO (CHURCH COMPLEX)

Built in late 15th century, it contains an important cycle of frescoes by Girolamo Romanino depicting the life of Jesus Christ. It is a story in images that completely captures the visitors. For the intensity of its pictorial realism, this church was called the “Sistine Chapel of the poor.”

Rich of altars in polychrome marble, wooden sculptures, and paintings, this church epitomizes the best artistic production of the 17th century. Andrea Fantoni’s work “Lamentation” is a splendid and intensely expressive sculpted group. Another noteworthy work is the adjacent octagonal chapel built in the 18th century.

Documented in 1410 A.D. but certainly older, it contains the beautiful wooden sculpture of Mary seating on the throne holding Baby Jesus (12th century), frescoes, paintings, and ex voto. The bell tower was added in the 18th century. The shrine is a beloved site by island residents and the destination of excursions thanks to the view you can admire from there.

This parish church has ancient origins and a unique central bell tower. The façade is embellished by Giacomo Oldofredi’s Gothic-style monumental tomb. In the Neoclassical interior, a painting by F.Hayez stands out, depicting Archangel Michael. On the square there is also the entrance to San Silvestro church, which contains a precious “Danse Macabre”.

PIEVE ROMANICA DI SANTA MARIA MAGGIORE (PARISH CHURCH)

Donated to the Cluny monastic order in 1083, the complex dominating Torbiere del Sebino Peat Bog Nature Reserve is a charming, intimate place built in Romanesque style and composed of a church, a disciplina, and a cloister. The room which used to be the seat of the Disciplini Confraternity boasts beautiful 16th century frescoes.

An old Roman fortification, it was widened and strengthened during the Middle Ages with crenellated walls, towers, moats, and a drawbridge. It is an extremely rare example of Renaissance villa (16th century) with frescoed rooms built inside a Medieval castle (13th century) in a position that dominates Franciacorta.

Noble Baroque mansion, surrounded by nature, and built on a 16th century military site. At the end of the 19th century, its frescoed rooms hosted illustrious guests, poets, and artists. The old kitchen, the dining room, the gallery, and the bedrooms create a pathway of discovery of this “villa of delights”.

Re-built in the 13th century in Romanesque-Gothic style, it is characterised on the outside by a polygon-shaped apse in white stone. The interior contains several frescoes from different periods of time. Particularly noteworthy and elegant are the “Mary with baby Jesus” and “Annunciation” frescoes attributed to Gentile da Fabriano school.

CHIESA E CONVENTO DELLA SANTISSIMA ANNUNCIATA (CHURCH AND CONVENT)

ABBAZIA OLIVETANA BENEDETTINA SANTI NICOLA E PAOLO VI (ABBEY)

BORGO DEL MAGLIO (FORGE)

SANTUARIO MADONNA DELLA STELLA (SHRINE)

Built starting from 1449 on Mount Orfano, in a beautiful panoramic position overlooking Franciacorta, this spiritual site has maintained the charm of its century-long history of hospitality tradition. The church apse contains the beautiful Annunciation fresco by Romanino. The convent is built over two levels around the rectangular cloister.

Funded by Cluny Benedictine monks, it was handed to Olivetan monks in 1446. They added precious works by the best Brescia masters like Moretto, Romanino, Gambara, and Ferramola. This religious and artistic complex is extremely valuable. Its church, convent, and three cloisters have become a true symbol of Franciacorta.

Composed of a group of rural buildings, Borgo has two separate museums: Museo Il Maglio Averoldi: a 15th century forge characterized by a hydraulic wheel that operates the forge still today. Pietro Malossi House-Museum: a diverse private collection of cultural objects, from arms to furniture, from prints to paintings.

Located on a hill called Selva and overlooking three municipalities, the shrine was built starting from 1537. It still contains an altarpiece by Romanino, “Mary with Baby Jesus and Angels”, and works by Cossali and Gandino. Outside, a bronze statue by artist Luciano Minguzzi is a testament to the affection that Pope St. Paul VI had for this place.
