In the World of Myth and Fairytales Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Wagner’s comic opera The mastersingers of Nurnberg draws its inspiration from the guild of amateur poets and composers of Nurnberg in the 16th c.’; yet, the plot itself is the composer’s own. Cypriot composer Andy Skordis’ ballet is inspired by the myth of the abduction of Europa by Zeus: Europa rides Zeus (disguised as a Bull), who travels her above the sea until they reach Crete… but, who is guiding whom after all? Rimsky-Korsakov’s sensual symphonic poem Scheherazade evokes, according to the composer, “a kaleidoscope of fairy-tale images” from A Thousand and One Nights, such as Sinbad the Sailor and the woodcutter Ali Baba. R. WAGNER: The Master-Singers of Nuremberg: overture 2

Moz-Art A la Haydn In Moz-Art à la Haydn (1977), Schnittke, through the use of fragments from works by Mozart and Haydn, gives us his own refreshing perspective on the classical style and such established rituals as light and stage arrangement. Shostakovich’s 1st cello concerto (1959), created for the legendary Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, is a frenetically dynamic, emotionally intense and wickedly virtuosic work. One of Haydn’s most successful and frequently played “London” Symphonies, the no. 100, stands out for its sublimely elegant themes, grandeur and its second movement’s musical representation of a war battle. In collaboration with the Οrganisation “European Capital of Culture – Pafos 2017”. Soloists: Antonis Bargilly (violin), Janna Sargerson (violin), Petros Gospodinov (cello), Conductor: Alkis Baltas Α. SAT, 21 NOV – FRI, 4 DEC 2015 “Palace of the end” by Judith Thompson Is a docudrama play that consists of three monologues of real-life tales of Iraq before and after the 2003 invasion. Whichever side of the war though we are, we lose. This extraordinary triptych is a political theater at its best form: warns without preaching, says without bias. It's the kind of conversation that deserves to exist in the theater. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday with Surtitles in English & Turkish.
