This self-guided, digital heritage trail was launched Juneteenth, 2021 and includes outdoor interpretive signs and monuments, parks, waterways and museums. The trail is an ongoing collaborative project between six NC counties: • Camden • Chowan • Currituck • Dare • Pasquotank • Perquimans

The African American Experience of NENC (AAENENC) celebrates the contributions of African Americans and encourages a deeper understanding of the significance of the region’s cultural heritage in order to build more inclusive communities.

The AAENENC was awarded the Marketing Achievement Award at the 2021 NC Travel Industry Association Conference!
