Ready for a New Chapter in Life? – Move to Svendborg
Four years ago, Keld Aabjørn did just that along with his wife and son who was about to start school. After 20 years in Copenhagen, Keld had a strong network and a nice career designing, projecting, and constructing skate parks in Denmark and abroad. He still has all of that. But today, he has exchanged the inner city for a house close to the harbour, his office is on Frederiksø, his finances aren’t as tight, and every now and then, he goes sailing around the archipelago.
Moving Back To South Fyn Felt A Bit Scary For Keld
”I mean, I grew up here as a kid, and I never thought I’d be returning. I feared that returning would make me feel like a failure. But it didn’t. Far from it, actually. I wasn’t met with any prejudices or expectations. Is the right move always forward? And at a higher pace? Not for me and my family. We found something important in Svendborg, something we were missing. There is an intimacy here, a sincere interest in one another. A community that is closely linked – without being too small – and a culture of lifting up rather than tearing down. It strikes me when I travel around the world, that Svendborg has something special. We have a strong belief in each other, and that allows you to dream big.”
Networking Town With Nature
Svendborg is a networking town making things happen. Everything is done at eye level and with a drive that attracts creative people wanting to be active participants in their local community. And here, you can actually give the mayor a call if you feel strongly about an issue.
The fact that nature is right outside your door in Svendborg ignites a spark in Keld’s heart. He can go on adventures with his son and feel safe about leaving behind his wife when his job forces him to travel – just like it’s always been for sailors in Svendborg.
KELD’S THREE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR VISITORS: RING-ANDERSEN SHIPYARD
Go visit the old shipyard. It’s the most fascinating way to experience Danish maritime heritage! There aren’t many places like this left in Denmark.
FREDERIKSØ
The fusion of culture and business; common sense and playfulness; history and innovation. It’s a unique place.
THE SOUTH FYN ARCHIPELAGO
The perfect place to go on adventures and act like Jacques Cousteau, whether it’s in a sailboat or a kayak, atop a paddleboard, or on one of the many island ferries. Go explore!
