The fjords are often described as “natures own work of art”, formed when the glaciers retreated and seawater flooded the U-shaped valleys. Thanks to the warm waters of the Gulf Stream and air currents caused by the Coriolis effect, Norwegian fjords enjoy a relatively mild climate and remain virtually ice-free.

STAY IN A LIGHTHOUSE! The recently abandoned iconic Barøy Lighthouse have become an extremely popular travel destination. Which is totally understandable – who doesn’t want to fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing against the coastline? On top of that, the buildings are photofriendly and excellent for sharing with family and friends – or the whole world!

BOAT RENTAL Rent a boat for the day and explore the beautiful fjords on your own. Enjoy fishing, the wildlife, and the magnificent arctic nature. Don’t forget your camera!

RIB BOAT TOURS Join an adrenaline-filled RIB tour, a great and fun way to experience the fjords. A spectacular experience, with steep mountains plunging into the fjord with beautiful waterfalls that finds its way down to the sea. BEACH CUTTING AT THE WRECK BY EVELYN KARIN At the southern tip of Barøy, situated at the end of Ofotfjorden, lies the remains of the cargo boat "Evelyn Karin". In 1975, a violent autumn storm washed the vessel ashore, miraculously sparing the lives of its four-member crew. The wreck now sits on dry land, between 40 and 50 meters in, serving as a reminder of nature’s raw power. Visitors to Barøy can explore the wreckage and pay their respects to the brave souls who once manned the ship.
