SPRING SKIING Vårskiturer (spring skiing), is very popular in the region. The days are warmer (you might be able to ski in a woollen t-shirt), and are growing longer and longer. You even get midnight sun in late spring. In the Narvik region, spring is the perfect season for ski touring and kiting. Thanks to the sun reflecting off the snow, you might even get a spring tan! Just don’t forget to pack your sunscreen & sunglasses.

FIND THE PERFECT FLOW Waterfalls are particularly beautiful and impressive during spring when the snow melts in the mountains. Witness how the dramatic waterfalls roar to life. May and June is the absolute best time to see them come to life, rushing cascades of water that plunge down the mountainsides. Please respect the potential danger of the waterfalls. Not only is the current strong if you fall in, but the ground nearby is often slippery and wet from mist, and the cliffs are steep and high.

HOORAY IT’S 17TH OF MAY Children’s parades, marching bands, traditional costumes, and ice cream. A lot of ice cream. Norwegian Constitution Day is a truly unique party! Brazilians have their carnival, the Irish Saint Patrick’s Day. Norway’s answer? On 17 May, we celebrate the signing of the constitution in 1814. In Norway, Constitution Day is huge. It’s a patriotic, but very inclusive and joyous atmosphere – visitors are welcomed warmly!

HOT SPRING TIP Experience Narvikfjellet Ski Resort, where you can ski from the top of the mountain and down to the fjord, often until June. Springfulness

Powdery Snow. Sun. Great times. An unique kind of happiness.

During the months of March, April, and May, the days get longer and the weather gets warmer in the north. Every spring, the arctic wakes up from its winter sleep and bursts into life. Here are some of the best ways to experience it

THE BIRDS AT THEIR LIVELIEST Spring really enlivens birds! Norway’s long coastline is bustling with life this time of year, when the migratory birds that left in autumn return home to breed and enjoy the warmer seasons. Bring your binoculars and camera, and maybe even your sound recorder, as this is an experience for the ears as well as the eyes. Just make sure that you behave respectfully towards all the newly hatched nestlings.

Look for the small flowers

As spring arrives in Norway, the landscape comes alive with colorful wildflowers. In the high alpine regions, you can spot trailing azealea, alpine bearberry, and other delicate blooms. Keep an eye out for the tiny purple mountain saxifrage, which blossoms in rocky ridges following snowmelt. This is a sure sign that spring has finally arrived in the north!
