Downtown Scranton

The SCRANTON ST. PATRICK’S PARADE is the largest annual celebration in Lackawanna County, and it shows. Since 1962, the St. Patrick’s Parade Day Association of Lackawanna County has conducted this nationally acclaimed parade. “Parade Day,” as it’s known locally, is one of the largest St. Patrick’s parades in the country, regularly attracting 150,000 spectators and over 12,000 participants. On this day, everyone is Irish! So don your green and wear it proudly as you get in the festive spirit. @otterlyquirky

Lackawanna County’s most unique festival only happens in two places in the world: Jessup, Pennsylvania, and Gubbio, Italy. Brought to Jessup in 1909, ST. UBALDO DAY was a way for immigrants from Gubbio to feel connected to the home they left behind. One of Lackawanna County’s most delicious traditions is LA FESTA ITALIANA. The four-day celebration of culture, cuisine, and music bring together people of all ethnic backgrounds from near and far. “La Festa,” as the locals call it, attracts over 100,000 people annually to Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton. Heritage Trail Stretching more than 70 miles, located amid the mountains and along the Lackawanna River, this trail is an artery that connects more than 30 communities through Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, and Wayne Counties.

Wildlife Watch for bald eagles, river otters, beavers, deer, herons, and other wildlife along the trail!

4-Season Trail Enjoy walking, running, cycling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

Homage to Heritage Explore Scranton’s Elm St. Trailhead section, and you’ll find rock carvings of wildlife, a sculpture of a Haudenosaunee Chief, and an amphitheater that pays homage to the area’s Native American heritage.

River Access Sections of the trail, municipal parks, and green spaces provide easy access to fly fishing and kayaking along the Lackawanna River.
