There’s a great skate park and children’s playground right along the beachfront. On the first and third Sunday morning of each month, the open-air Peregian Markets are held by the beach. The free outdoor live music concerts, Peregian Originals, look forward to returning in 2021 on the second Sunday of every month. Dogs are welcome at designated exercise areas and the village even has a shop just for pooches! From Castaways Beach to Marcus Beach is an off-leash dog area, and they’re allowed on-leash from beach access 59 to 67. They must be supervised at all times.

THE SHOPPING LIST

Famous for its range of unique boutiques, Peregian Square in the centre of the village is full of beautiful stores from upmarket ladies’ boutiques to quaint children’s shops, surf shops, beauty salons and premium design and furniture stores.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

You’ve got the idea by now that Peregian Village is a little pocket of friendly, buzzing, beachy vibes, but it’s in the restaurants and cafés where it really punches above its weight. Within an easy stroll, you’re spoilt with so many choices for outdoor coffee, bakery treats, elegant dining, cold beers, classic takeaways and family-friendly eateries that feature local produce and housemade tastes. For global tastes, there’s Periwinkle’s French Mediterranean cuisine, fresh Japanese tastes from Sushi Wave, Siam Spicy Thai’s delicacies, and Pizzami’s Italian flavours as you perch overlooking the square and beachfront park. There’s great coffee and special treats at cafés including Le Bon Delice French Patisserie, Hand of Fatima, Baked Poetry Cafe and Skal, and healthy serves at Raw Energy. The Captain’s Daughter has classic fish and chips on your beach holiday and a great range of beers on tap including local brews. The local pub, the Peregian Beach Hotel, has a family-friendly bistro menu, while Pitchfork offers seasonal, modern Australian flavours.

Or fill up your picnic basket and head over to the beachside park.

PEREGIAN BY NATURE

Bordered by the Coral Sea and the southern section of the Noosa National Park, Peregian Beach is alive with nature’s colours.

Nearby Emu Mountain (Peregian means emu in the indigenous Kabi Kabi language) is a fairly easy climb to the 70m summit, with mesmerising coastal and hinterland views. At just over 1km return to the top, the walk takes you past wildflowers and she-oaks to uninterrupted views from the lookout. Access is from Havana Road East, just south of Peregian Beach. Lake Weyba, behind the Noosa National Park and just north of Peregian, is a serene spot to watch the day begin or see the sunset. Get active with horse-riding, kiteboarding, fishing, canoeing, birdwatching or walking. Or just enjoy the tranquillity of this beautiful lake that forms part of the Noosa River waterways. Walk or ride a bike for miles along the golden sands around Peregian Beach, or along the coastal path. Short, interpretive walks at Marcus Beach, just north of Peregian Beach (beach access 47) and at Peregian Creek (a little further south at beach access 49) explain about the huge variety of native plants. Learn how all parts of this amazing ecosystem support each other and the wildlife, from ghost crabs to mammals. The protected foreshore reserve has fragile coastal sand dunes up to 5000 years old with coffee rock dating back 100,000 years, woodlands, rainforest and waterholes. Hear the eastern whipbird, see brush turkeys tend to their nests, wallabies grazing and goannas running up trees. From the dense woodland canopy behind the dunes, watch as the vegetation thins out and changes to plants that can sustain the windswept salt spray. The interpretive walks are an initiative of the Marcus Beach Bushcare Association.
