REDMOND CHAMBER PREMIER LEVEL SPONSORS
DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
JUNE
2024
BY ERIC SANDE, EXECUTIVE DIRECTORSUMMER: THE SEASON OF FUN & EVENTS
Here we are in June, and the kickoff to the summer season. There is so much taking place in the life of the Chamber and the Redmond community, we will definitely be taking advantage of the longer days to get everything accomplished. Summer is “Event Season” and there will be no shortage of events taking place this season to keep us all entertained and connected to our community.
As you know, the Chamber is the Convention and Visitors Bureau and we work with numerous incoming groups and provide unparalleled customer service to these groups. Kicking off the group business in June will be the BMW-MOA (Motorcycle Owners of America). We are excited to welcome them back to Deschutes County Fair and Expo. BMW-MOA was last here in 2010 and they are thrilled to be coming back to Redmond. Expect to see over 5,000 BMW motorcycles in Redmond mid-June and be sure to say hello (just look for people in full riding armor). Their attendees will be from all over the world and US, with some riding more than 3,000 miles to get here. Redmond merchants are encouraged to display the “Welcome BMW-MOA” signs, which Connor in our office made, and are available here at the Chamber. We then will be welcoming the attendees for the Farewell Concert, Sister’s Quilt Show attendees, the Family Motor Coach Association and more.
Summer also means it is time for the Music on the Green, Summer Concert Series. These concerts are a community favorite, and they are also enjoyed by the many visitors coming to Redmond throughout the concert season.
Our first concert is scheduled for June 26, with JuJu Eyeball, followed by Heller Highwater on July 10, The Kristi Kinsey Band - July 24, Sequoia Rose - August 7, Runaway FireAugust 21 and of course, last but not least, the Hokulea Dancers on September 4. The music begins at 6pm and goes until 7:30pm. Follow the concert series every other Wednesday, all summer long. Be sure to mark your calendar and get ready for a great summer of great music, food, plenty of vendors and fun for the whole family. Go online to Visitredmondoregon.com or call the Chamber for more information.
Benefits of Chamber Membership
I was recently reading an article on the benefits of joining a Chamber of Commerce for businesses and the authors listed 5 benefits to joining your local Chamber. All five points were “spot on” with what the Redmond Chamber of Commerce and CVB offers its members, and I thought it was worth sharing them with you.

Networking events, seminars, and workshops organized by the Chamber provide a platform for exchanging ideas, exploring partnerships, and expanding customer bases. Enhance Your Leadership and Communication Skills with AI
- Justin Coats, Neesh.AIDear Redmond Chamber Members,
Effective communication and strong leadership are key to business success. This month, let’s explore how AI can boost these crucial skills within your organization.
Enhanced Communication
AI tools, like ChatGPT, can transform your internal and external communications by taking your thoughts and ideas and turning them into clear, accurate, and high-quality messages. Whether it's drafting emails, creating reports, or preparing presentations, AI ensures that your communication is professional and comprehensive. This not only saves time but also ensures consistency in your messaging, helping your business present a unified voice to clients and team members alike (Your next-generation technology partner) (Staff base).
Leadership Insights
The rise of AI is changing the work environment, making it essential for leaders to support professional development and employee training. AI can identify areas where your team needs upskilling or reskilling, ensuring everyone is equipped to handle new technologies. By focusing on employee growth and providing targeted training, leaders can foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptability, helping their teams stay ahead in a rapidly evolving landscape (SpringHR) (Your nextgeneration technology partner).
Personalized Training
Using AI tools like ChatGPT effectively can significantly boost productivity. A study by MIT found that employees trained to use ChatGPT and other language models saw a 42% increase in productivity. Offering personalized training sessions on these tools can help your team harness their full potential. From automating routine tasks to generating creative ideas, AI training can make a substantial difference in your team's efficiency and output (Staff base).
Real-Time Feedback
AI can provide real-time feedback on communication strategies, allowing for immediate adjustments and continuous improvement. Implementing internal AI systems for employee sentiment analysis can bridge the gap between upper management's vision and the needs of lower-level employees. These systems can capture feedback on workplace dynamics, helping leaders create a more supportive and responsive work environment (SpringHR)(Your next-generation technology partner).

MEMBERSHIP update
Greetings To All Of Our Amazing Members!
Summer is finally here! With graduations, last days of school and summer vacations starting, June is sure to be a busy month for us all. This is the season that many of us have been looking forward to the most as we have some of the best amenities and adventures awaiting us right in our backyard. This month I would like to talk about member-to-member discounts and how that could not only significantly help your business, but also show support to fellow local business owners and the local economy. Some of you are already offering exclusive member discounts for Chamber members and we want to thank you for that.
Implementing member-to-member discounts within the Redmond Chamber of Commerce can foster a stronger sense of community among local businesses. By offering discounts exclusively to fellow Chamber members, businesses can encourage collaboration and support within the community. This not only strengthens relationships between businesses but also enhances the overall economic ecosystem of Redmond. When businesses support one another, it creates a ripple effect of mutual benefit, boosting economic growth and stability in the region.
Member-to-member discounts can also provide a competitive advantage for participating businesses. By offering exclusive deals to other Chamber members, businesses can attract new customers and increase loyalty among existing ones. This can help businesses stand out in a crowded marketplace and differentiate themselves from competitors. Additionally, these discounts can incentivize Chamber members to shop locally, keeping revenue within the community and bolstering the local economy.
Furthermore, implementing member-to-member discounts can enhance the value proposition of Chamber membership. It provides tangible benefits for businesses that join the Chamber, creating an additional incentive for membership. Businesses can leverage these discounts as a marketing tool to attract new members, thereby expanding the Chamber's network and influence within the community. Overall, member-to-member discounts serve as a win-win proposition for businesses within the Redmond Chamber of Commerce, promoting collaboration, competitiveness, and community growth.
If you would like to offer member-to-member discounts and would like to be included in the Chamber’s list of members offering such incentives, please contact us at the office or email membership@visitredmondoregon.com. As always, thank you for being such an important part of our business community, we couldn’t do it without each and every one of our amazing members.
Evelina Davidson Membership & Finance Director Redmond Chamber of Commerce & CVBNEWS FROM Commerce in Crooked River Ranch
the ranch
As we all know Crooked River Ranch is a wonderful place to live and vacation, but did you know that there are many thriving businesses here in the ranch community? From restaurants to hair and nail salons, storage facilities, auto repair, churches, hotel, rental cabins, a dental clinic, mint snuff company, a small market and more, you have lots of options available.
By taking a short 15-minute drive from Redmond, you can come visit Crooked River Ranch. The Ranch was developed on two levels. As you come onto the Ranch, the upper level is mainly residential. When you drop into the canyon, into the lower level by the golf course and Administration Office, the zoning is primarily commercial. The drive here is worth going to The Beauty Barn. Their team of professionals will have you walking out with the latest hair and nail designs. And right up the road by the horse arena is Polished By Stephanie, providing beautiful nail art and tanning sessions getting you ready to hit the summer season. How about a meal out? There are 3 restaurants on the ranch. Sandbagger is next to the Golf Pro Shop; they have a variety of menu choices and cool A/C after that hot game of golf. The Big Dog Saloon will serve up great hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, and a nice cold beverage. Known for attracting bikers out here on their bike runs you will usually find a motorcycle or two parked out in front. Lastly but certainly not least is Over The Edge Taphouse (OTE). Can you say live music? Every weekend there is something fun and entertaining going on at OTE, along with delicious mixed drinks, there are several food trucks to satisfy different food cravings. Everyone is welcome, adults, kids, and dogs. With the most amazing view of the gorge, blue skies and shining stars at night, your enjoyment is guaranteed.
You need some extra storage space? CRR has many storage companies, Twisted Tree, Stuff It In Storage, CRR Storage, Pak it in Storage and more. Bring your toys down to the ranch and store them in a safe secure environment.
And how about your family and friends coming to visit, but you don’t have the guest room ready. CRR Cabins are so cute with that country comfort feel. Smith Rock Resort
- by Brenda Cooperis out away from any noise, with those attractive, round individual clean rooms. The golf course and Sandbagger are close enough for a short walk to end your day.
Needing some vehicle repairs? We’ve got you covered with C & R Family Auto. What a relief to have an automotive repair clinic here on the ranch when driving into town isn’t an option and reasonable prices are always a welcome surprise. Automotive restoration service needs can be met by contacting Binder Boneyard. This company specializes in used International Harvester parts, sales, and service. This quiet little company has done much of its business online and is well known all over the nation.
Ouch! Are you in need of a dentist? Mercy Dental can help you out. Dr. Rick Warf lives and works by Mercy Dental mission statement. “We here at Mercy Dental will serve the Lord, and share his compassion and gentle loving hands to our patients. Because Christ lives within us, we will strive to provide dental care with integrity and mercy.” Our mission statement will always be Christ-centered. Schedule your appointment on the Mercy Dental website and be reassured that there is a great team to make you comfortable while providing your dental service.
One of the most popular businesses here in Crooked River Ranch is The Trading Post, a small market that provides fuel, deli, basic food items and recently added U-Haul rentals. This is a great place to pick up that one item you forgot on your shopping trip, or convenient for campers in the RV park. You’re in need of propane? They’ve got it for you. If you’re in the market for renting a U-Haul, the Trading Post has just started that rental service, it’s such a convenience not having to go to town. But mostly it’s a great place for friends and neighbors to meet up and have a nice visit.
These businesses are what add to the quality of life out here on the Ranch. Come on out and know that you are in a community that meets your needs. There are many other successful companies out here, but too many to list, those mentioned are just an example. We welcome Your business and will see ya when you get here!

Question:
In order to receive a promotion to supervisor, my employer tells me I need to develop and demonstrate effective communication and leadership skills. How can I do this?
A: You are in luck! Recognizing the need for leadership development is the first step toward career advancement. Believe it or not, these are highly teachable skills. Consider the following ideas:
Self-Assessment: Reflect on your current skills and identify areas for improvement. Seek feedback from colleagues and supervisors to gain a comprehensive understanding of your strengths and weaknesses.
Educational Opportunities: check out your local community college and enroll in leadership development programs. Look for opportunities that cover emotional intelligence, performance management, team building, and effective communication.
Mentorship: connect with experienced leaders within your organization or industry. A mentor can provide valuable insights, guidance, and constructive feedback tailored to your career goals.
Networking: Engage with professionals in your field, attend industry events, and join relevant professional organizations. Networking exposes you to diverse perspectives and allows you to learn from successful leaders.
Continuous Learning: Stay informed (like you are doing reading this publication) about industry needs, and leadership best practices. Subscribe to publications, and podcasts or attend workshops and conferences to stay updated.
Remember, developing your communication and leadership skills is a continuous journey and these skills can be used in every facet of your life. Take the time and invest in yourself.

WHO IS BEHIND HELPING BUILD REDMOND’S PROSPERITY?
MEET REDI BOARD MEMBER, KAREN TURNER.
REDI plays a crucial role in advancing various industry sectors by introducing traded sector jobs to our region. Without this kind of development, we could become overly reliant on sectors like tourism and construction, which are vulnerable to economic downturns. One industry that keeps REDI informed about the labor market and workforce development is recruiting and staffing services. They contribute to shaping responsible business development discussions in Redmond and Central Oregon, providing insights into the constantly evolving labor market.
Behind REDI (Redmond Economic Development, Inc.) are community leaders who volunteer their time and effort, playing a vital role in the organization's strength and success. Let us highlight one such leader who has significantly contributed to building a robust economy for Redmond – meet REDI Board Member, Karen Turner.
As Managing Director at Express Specialized Recruiting Group, Karen collaborates with clients and candidates to fill direct placement and contract positions for professional and executive searches. This includes such niches as Accounting/Finance, Human Resources, Sales/Marketing, Engineering, Construction Management, Manufacturing Management, IT and Scientific. Which is why making connections is what Karen describes as her superpower. Whether helping people find new careers or connecting employers with top talent, Karen is dedicated to the community through her matchmaking prowess.
“SRG has served the Central Oregon region since 1983 and is part of an international franchise network of over 900 offices,” says Karen.
Karen has been a part of the Central Oregon Community since 1997. The region has seen quite a bit of change in that time. “It has been exciting to experience and be part of the region’s growth,” Karen says. “Through good and bad economic times, people’s dream to live in the area doesn’t waver.”
In 2023, Karen joined the Redmond Economic Development Inc. board because she wanted to serve in the community where she lives and works. “It is an honor to be a part of one of the top economic development organizations in the state,” she says.
When asked, why is REDI so important? “Our ability to be a one stop resource and
connector for business looking to move, start or grow in Redmond,” says Karen. “We help remove barriers for business growth.”
As REDI Secretary and the Investor Relationship Committee Co-Chair, Karen enjoys helping to make meaningful connections between REDI and local businesses. Cultivating opportunities to network is part of REDI’s strategy to make those meaningful connections. In fact, one of her favorite events each year, is the Made In Redmond Tour that occurs in June.
“You get to see REDI dollars in action!” Karen says, “I enjoy seeing first-hand what Redmond businesses are doing with my own eyes, not just reading the stories. My favorite part of the tours is seeing the employees working in their roles and seeing the jobs we are creating. They let us interrupt their days to celebrate them!”
When not attending REDI events or helping with recruitments for Express, you can find Karen at the Cline Falls River Trail or near Cline Butte. She loves being outdoors and personally enjoys paddleboarding, hiking, kayaking, and snowmobiling.
