DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

OCTOBER 2024

Leadership Redmond

I am very pleased to announce the first class of Leadership Redmond, Class of 2025, was held on Thursday, September 19. We have a smaller, yet very eager, group this year with 13 participants. Our Day Sponsor for Day 1, was the Redmond Executive Association and we covered the topic of Community History and Culture. What could be a better place to meet for our first day covering the topic of history and culture than the historic SCP Hotel. This ninemonth program will cover a wide variety of topics and expose the participants to the everyday leaders, organizations and to those unseen who make Redmond function smoothly 365 days a year. Leadership Redmond is a partnership of the Redmond Executive Association and the Redmond Chamber of Commerce and CVB, designed to educate, enhance, develop, and inspire leaders to participate in key decision-making positions within our community. This program would not be possible without our generous Day and Scholarship Sponsors: Thank you to the Redmond Executive Association, Alliance Professionals, Mazatlán, Central Electric Co-op,

A Midsummer Night's Dream presented by Meadow Sky Productions.

October 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th, Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream comes to Central Oregon. We are hosted by The High Desert Music Hall in Redmond, will have a full bar and concessions available for guests, and plan to provide our patrons with an evening full of laughter, theater, and magic. While honoring the original plot and language of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", literary scholars in our audience might notice that our script has been trimmed to make it extremely accessible for our modern patrons. Fairies, Lovers, and Mischief all remain, but in a form that will draw our audience in rather than pushing them away. Furthermore, we intend to honor the tradition of Shakespeare performance that includes the audience in the story. Fairies run through aisles, Lovers chase with swords, and even Royalty deigns to acknowledge the attending crowd throughout our show. Students and teachers, business owners and employees stand shoulder-to-shoulder to create the magic that is Meadow Sky Productions'

performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Venue: High Desert Music Hall in Redmond, OR 818 SW Forest Ave, Redmond, OR 97756

REDI BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: SHERRILL CORBETT, PARTNER

- TONKON TORP LLP

Behind REDI (Redmond Economic Development, Inc.) are community leaders who volunteer their time and effort to play a vital role in the organization's strength and success. Meet REDI Board Member, Sherrill Corbett, Partner with Tonkon Torp LLP.

Central Oregon has a reputation for attracting growing businesses and entrepreneurs. As local communities and industries continue to thrive in the high desert, sometimes you need a legal expert in your corner to help with emerging issues.

Tonkon Torp LLP is a full-service business law firm established in 1974. “Our service philosophy is to think like a business, so our clients don’t have to think like a lawyer,” says Sherrill. “When it comes to running a business, legal issues should take a back seat to strategic solutions.”

While the main office of 90 attorneys is based out of the Portland area, Tonkon has a presence in Central Oregon with two lawyers living and working here full-time. Sherrill’s practice is focused on helping clients launch, buy, and sell their businesses, as well as on structuring joint ventures, bank financings, and private placements.

“I especially enjoy working with women-owned or led businesses,” she says. “It’s been exciting to see new startup clients open their businesses in Central Oregon, as well as to see so many successful business transactions involving selling and buying companies in the area.”

As Sherrill points out, Central Oregon is growing rapidly – as businesses continue to thrive in the area, their need for sophisticated legal counsel has increased. Tonkon Torp LLP offers full-service, expert support for businesses and their legal needs – from labor and employment issues, to tax matters, estate planning, business formation and exits, litigation, and

employment-based immigration.

One of Sherrill’s superpowers is making “legalese” easy to understand. “When we work with clients, we prioritize responsive service, pragmatic and creative thinking, straight talk, and, when appropriate, humor,” she says. “No matter the size or complexity of a business, we bring the right people, the right questions, and the right counsel to every client relationship.”

After attending the Made in Redmond Tour, Sherrill knew she wanted to be a part of Redmond Economic Development, Inc. to help “attract and retain businesses in the region.” She says it is one of her favorite events because it spotlights the ingenuity and output of Redmond businesses.

Above all, Sherrill and her colleagues at Tonkon Torp LLP strive to provide advice and advocacy that is personal, business-focused, and right-sized for every business’ unique needs.

Ask the Expert – The Keys to Cash Flow

Q: I’m running a profitable business as represented by my accounting statements, but somehow, I keep experiencing cash flow shortages, what’s happening and can I fix it?

A: Congratulations on running a profitable business. Several factors can contribute to negative cash flow and are generally not found on your income statement, but rather on your balance sheet:

Accounts receivable: Your customers may be taking longer to pay their invoices, impacting cash inflow. Remedies are following up on late payments, implementing stricter payment terms, or offering discounts for early payments.

Accounts payable: Negotiate favorable payment terms with your suppliers. Longer terms provide more time to generate cash from sales.

Inventory: Large balances can tie up cash. Review inventory practices and examine reorder lead times to ensure stock levels are optimized without overcommitting funds and impacting customer demand.

Capital expenditures: Large purchases can strain cash flow. Evaluate the necessity and plan timing to align with cash availability.

Debt repayments: Consider renegotiating loan terms or restructuring your debt to ease cash flow.

Other considerations that can impact cash flow are seasonal business fluctuations and unforeseen expenses. Incorporating a management reserve strategy can help address and mitigate these risks. Many of our clients routinely save 20% for this purpose.

Cash flow is the lifeblood of any business and having a financial plan with a periodic understanding of the data are your keys to ensuring you have sufficient cash for your business.

NEWS FROM Crooked River Ranch Summer Rec Program

the ranch

One of the great benefits to living in the Crooked River Ranch community is the ‘Summer Rec Program’. This is a two-week summer program run by dedicated volunteers for children ages 6-12 years old. For years parents and grandparents have worked their summer schedules around this program for their kids. The Summer Rec Program comes at no cost to the participating families and is available to our community members.

The two weeks are broken up into one-week programs. Each week has approximately 50 kids and even though they receive the maximum registrations, nobody is ever turned away. The volunteers are caring adults who play different parts. There are those who teach swimming lessons, golf lessons, arts and crafts, educational lab and serve snacks.

A typical day schedule starts out with the kids arriving at the Ranch Chapel then break off into groups. The first activity is swimming lessons, water safety and a little fun in the sun at the CRR community pool. Then it’s back to the Ranch Chapel for morning snacks provided by volunteers who donate and serve the snacks. Then breaking up into smaller groups by ages, they head to the outdoor sports activity which is golf and was led by Pro Shop Manager Jeff Robinson. Boys and girls over the age of 8, wearing closed toed shoes spent time learning and practicing driving, chipping, and putting. In the past the scheduled outdoor sport was pickleball, but the summer temperatures were too hot, as were the courts, which is why the switch to golf. Then on to a muchappreciated cooling down time with indoor arts and crafts. The volunteers have gathered craft materials to make low cost, but creative and fun projects for the kids to take home with them. To end the day Robin Galloway from the FANS group had brought amazing examples in four stations to educate kids about animal pelts, bat habitats, animal tracks in castings and discovering bones, sheds and other exciting treasures nature leaves behind. Busy kids mean hungry kids which mean lots of cookies, juice packs, and fruit to be made and organized each day of the two-week camp. With close to fifty campers, that could total up to five hundred snacks and over one thousand cookies. This program would not be available without help of the volunteers. These volunteers are longtime residents who contribute to their community, parents, grandparents and are past Summer Rec kids who have grown up through the program who want to continue to help and train to become adult volunteers. Yes, these Crooked River Ranch kids sure have a wonderful opportunity to have a week of fun filled, educational days.

The Power of Brand Video Marketing: Key Strategies for Success

Brand video marketing has become a crucial strategy in modern advertising. Here’s how businesses can harness its full potential:

1. Increased Engagement and Reach

Videos outperform other media in grabbing attention and encouraging interaction. By resonating with emotions, video content leads to higher engagement through likes, shares, and comments, helping brands expand their organic reach across social media platforms.

2. Enhanced Brand Awareness and Recall

Videos leave a lasting impression, making them more memorable than static content. Storytelling in video enhances emotional connection and reinforces a brand’s message. This makes it easier for customers to recall the brand when making purchasing decisions.

3. Improved Conversion Rates

Video content is highly effective at showcasing products and services, giving potential customers visual proof of a brand's value. Videos often include clear calls to action (CTAs), increasing conversions by guiding viewers to take specific actions, whether it’s making a purchase, visiting a website, or subscribing to a newsletter.

4. SEO Benefits

Video content offers three significant advantages for search engine optimization:

Improved rankings: Search engines favor quality videos, helping businesses rank higher in search results.

Increased dwell time: Videos encourage users to stay on a webpage longer, boosting dwell time—a key factor in search rankings.

Rich snippets: Videos are more likely to be featured in rich snippets, increasing visibility and click-through rates.

5. Adaptability Across Platforms

One of the greatest strengths of video

content is its adaptability. Videos can be repurposed for multiple platforms, from YouTube to social media channels like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, ensuring that businesses can reach diverse demographics across various channels.

6. Cost-Effectiveness and ROI

With technological advancements, video production has become more accessible and cost-effective. Businesses no longer need large budgets to produce high-quality video content. Free editing tools and smartphone cameras allow even small brands to create impactful videos, providing a strong return on investment (ROI).

7. Future Trends in Video Marketing

Innovative trends like AI-generated video content, interactive video features (shoppable videos, 360-degree experiences, quizzes), and live streaming are shaping the future of brand video marketing. These technologies make it easier to engage customers, provide immersive experiences, and drive conversions in real-time.

Brand video marketing offers unmatched opportunities to increase engagement, build awareness, and improve conversion rates. By utilizing creative storytelling, optimizing videos for SEO, and adapting content for various platforms, businesses can position themselves at the forefront of the digital marketplace. Investing in video marketing not only enhances brand credibility but also drives longterm growth.
