REDMOND CHAMBER PREMIER LEVEL SPONSORS

DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

JULY 2024

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY

Here we are once again getting ready to celebrate another fantastic 4th of July! This newsletter is scheduled to come out just days before, so I hope I can encourage you to come down and celebrate with us.

I love the 4th of July, and to me, Redmond is the epitome of Americana. Our parade theme this year is “Old Fashioned 4th of July”. I am so proud of Redmond, especially when it’s decked out in the nearly 2,000 flags. As tradition, the Chamber is responsible for putting up the flags on the 4th, and we can sure use your help if you are willing to join us. We meet at Les Schwab at 6am to put them up, and then again at 4pm to take them down (this gives you plenty of time to run home and barbeque).

The Chamber is honored to once again host the Annual 4th of July Parade sponsored this year by Redmond Industrial Park. Each year this exciting parade draws thousands of residents and visitors from all over. Parade registration starts at 8am at the corner of 10th and Birch! This is a new location for us as we try something new to accommodate a smooth lineup. The parade will start promptly at 10am and follow the traditional route down 6th Street to Forest. We hope to see you there. No 4th of July would be complete without fireworks and again this year they will be launched from the Expo Center but there is no

viewing on the Expo property. The fireworks show is made possible by the generosity of High Desert Aggregate and Paving and owner Mike Moore. Fireworks are the perfect way to end the day and to celebrate the birth of our country. However you choose to celebrate the holiday, I hope you are as proud of Redmond as I am and have a safe and happy 4th of July!

FIRST RESPONDERS & VETERANS MEMORIAL

We ask you, what begins with 10 flag poles holding beautiful flags waving in the wind and a floor of red, inscribed brick pavers? You have it right, the ‘First Responders and Veterans Memorial Wayside’.

Right here in Crooked River Ranch across the street from McPhearson Park is this powerful memorial created and built by those who respect, honor, and remember ‘Heroes’ who have served their country and communities with selfless dedication.

It all began with Navy Veteran John Meredith Coming up with the idea and approaching the Board of Directors. Not only did he present the idea, he came equipped with plans and proposed location. After the Board of Directors approved the idea, John collaborated with Lynnelle and Brian Morgan who owned Black Dog Construction. About 80 percent of the work was donated by Black Dog Construction. They had an estimated cost of $20,000 without any assistance. Those who pitched in and donated towards the memorial included Knife River and Hooker Creek, donating manpower and material, as well as Jefferson County that waived the $700 permit fee. Bend Band of Brothers contributed by rounding up donations that were deposited through the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Resident Charlie Smith graciously donated $4,000 for the flagpoles. There were countless hours of time put in to coordinating, gathering donations, and informing the public.

The Crooked River Ranch ATV Group, of which John is a member, has assumed the responsibility of maintaining the Memorial. They spend many hours weeding, cleaning and making sure it is a suitable tribute to those honored.

The red brick pavers are sold at a cost of $50 each. The benefactor of the brick can be alive or deceased and does not have to live in Oregon. Also, the bricks are for Veterans and First Responders. You can contact Over The Edge Taphouse, Crooked River Ranch for the request form.

Each of the flags represents the United States, Oregon, different branches of the military along with a Law Enforcement flag.

To make it a memorable occasion, the groundbreaking for the memorial was held on Veterans Day 2018 and the dedication was Memorial Day 2019. Anyone who visits this special monument can’t help but to be moved by its message of ‘Thank you and Never Forget’.

Music on the Green, Redmond, Oregon’s beloved outdoor summer concert series, nestled right in Redmond’s backyard. Is set to bring the community together once again with its exciting lineup of performances, starting June 26th.

ECONOMICupdate

REDI CELEBRATES CITY OF REDMOND MANUFACTURING DAY AND HONORS A THRIVING COMMUNITY.

REDI Contributors: Courtney Cobb & Mary Knight

In June, Redmond Economic Development Inc, celebrated its 11th Made in Redmond Tour in recognition of the importance the manufacturing sector has in the community and across the nation. The Made in Redmond Tour brings together business leaders, elected officials, educators, and stakeholders for networking and showcases how community collaboration and investment in businesses brings prosperity to Redmond and Central Oregon overall.

According to Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute, there will be 3.8 million manufacturing jobs to fill between now and 2033. In Central Oregon, Redmond serves as the region’s manufacturing hub and accounts for over 1,800 jobs within the city and over 28% of all manufacturing jobs in Deschutes County. Redmond’s employment in the manufacturing sector expanded by 16.7% from 2019-2023, and total wages paid in the sector grew by a remarkable 42.6%.

The companies featured on the tour represent a diverse set of industries exemplifying Redmond’s commitment to industry diversification, which helps hedge against recessions. Tour attendees were excited to get a behindthe-scenes look at each business and learn more about their products, services and why they choose to do business in Redmond.

This year’s tour hosts included Hardenbrook Hardwoods, Avid Cider Co., Poltex Inc., and Senneca/Chase Doors. The stories behind the products these companies create and their distribution across the nation were awe inspiring. REDI is truly grateful to these companies for taking time out of their day to allow attendees the opportunity to peek behind the curtain.

A huge thank you to transportation sponsor, Pacific Crest Bus Lines, who provided nearly one hundred attendees with the opportunity to see the innerworkings of these companies comfortably. Additional thanks go to valued sponsors Hayden Homes/Simplicity, Title sponsor; BBSI, Presenting sponsor; and Lynden Logistics and Umpqua Bank, Supporting sponsors.

THRIVE Award!

REDI was also excited to hand out not one, but two THRIVE awards, sponsored by Mid Oregon Credit Union, to local programs that are making a difference in Redmond. The two recipients, while quite different in their missions, are complimentary to each other on different sides of the spectrum.

One, The Redmond Safe Parking Program, helps those experiencing houselessness. The THRIVE award spotlights this program which contributes to the local economy through empowering those in need on a transitional basis and building a local workforce. “Our Safe Parking team is honored to receive the THRIVE Award for our work serving our unhoused neighbors,” said Rick Russell, Executive Director of Mountain View Community Development. “It reveals the strength of our community and how we all benefit when partners like business, government and social sectors collaborate.”

The second winner was the Dry Canyon Arts Association. The association, through its educational programs, Lend Me Your Walls and first Friday art walk in downtown Redmond, is testimony that a vibrant visual arts community contributes to a thriving economy by providing quality of life and livability through beautification. "Not only was it so interesting to learn about Redmond Economic Development Inc.'s work to bring and support manufacturing businesses and jobs to Redmond,” said Secretary, Beth Hanson, “it was so gratifying to be recognized as an important part of the economic fabric of our community.”

Congratulations to both winners.
