Meaningful Connections
Art is on display everywhere in Saint Paul, from the public canvases of its numerous murals to its fine art galleries and museums. There’s an energy in it all that connects us to our cultures, our passions and to one another.
On The Streets
Huge, glorious works of art create open air museums in locations like Saint Paul’s Creative Enterprise Zone neighborhood — known for its painted walls and for Chroma Zone, Minnesota’s largest public mural and art festival. Take in the Midway Murals along Snelling Avenue, Marimba Benches in Phalen Poetry Park, the world’s largest Lite-Brite mural inside Union Depot, the Pedro Park mural and Sidewalk Poetry etched into walkways all over town. In The Park
The sprawling Western Sculpture Park (just west of the Minnesota State Capitol) is home to 15 permanent installations, with more installations planned in the future.
High Bridge Park (at the north end of the Smith Avenue Bridge) is home to three large sculptures that represent several cultures.
Throughout The City
Plan to attend the Wakpa Triennial Art Festival. Newly commissioned artworks by more than 30 Minnesota artists will be featured at multiple sites throughout the Twin Cities from June through September.
In Museums And Galleries
The Minnesota Museum of American Art (The M) is constantly engaging with the community. Currently its window galleries bring art and storytelling to the public while it develops the M of the future. mmaa.org
A few Saint Paul galleries of note include XIA Gallery & Cafe, devoted to works by talented Southeast Asian and Twin Cities artists. Fine art galleries Great River Gallery and The Grand Hand Gallery. Indigenous Roots Cultural Arts Center, where space and programming are used to promote Native, Black, Brown and Indigenous arts, culture and tradition.
