7 ATTENDEE SAFETY TIPS

We want your stay in San Diego to be exciting, inspirational and overall, safe! Here are some simple safety tips to keep in mind during your visit. 1

When walking outside the convention center, remove your attendee badge. Just be sure to keep it handy to benefit from discounts provided by our Show Your Badge & Save program partners at restaurants, attractions and shopping venues.

2

Be aware of the train and trolley tracks just across the street from our facility. Train engineers are not required to sound horns when approaching. Please be sure to stop, look both ways and cross only if the tracks are clear.

3

When walking at night, try to walk in a group. Choose sidewalks in well-lit areas. Our concierge desk can help map out a route.

4

If you’re taking a taxi, make sure your driver starts the meter and don’t pay more than the metered amount.

5

Pedicabs are a fun way to see the city. But be sure the fare is posted before you ride and always fasten your seatbelt.

6

If traveling with children, designate a meeting site in case anyone gets lost.

7

In case of an emergency while on site, dial our in-house security team at 5911.

SAN SALVADOR

The Maritime Museum of San Diego proudly launched their long-awaited labor of love this past year, a reconstruction of the San Salvador, the vessel that Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo sailed into the port we now call San Diego in 1542. This replica was entirely constructed here in San Diego by scores of skilled boat-building professionals and volunteers. The ship was the first recorded European vessel to sail along Southern California and survey the coastline. She functions as an “origin symbol” ship for San Diego. Now available for public viewing, see this reproduction of nautical history at its new home, the docks of the Maritime Museum.

CAT CAFÉ

Bringing a whole new meaning to the term “afternoon pick-me-up” is the San Diego Cat Café (472 Third Ave.), the first business of its kind in Southern California. Enjoy award-winning, locally-roasted coffee and neighborhood-produced baked goods while an adoptable cat makes itself at home in your lap. This belly-rub friendly spot works with local rescue organizations to bring a unique experience to its patrons. Once inside, you may pet cats, play with cats or stare cheerily at them for as long as you’d like. If you feel that you’ve found a new cat companion, you’ll even be able to adopt and bring them home!

LIBERTY PUBLIC MARKET Following a path paved by iconic markets such as Seattle’s Pike Place and the

Ferry Building in San Francisco, the Liberty Public Market in Point Loma has taken a 1920s-era, warehouse-style building and converted it to an indooroutdoor marketplace that features purveyors of cheeses, butchered meats, baked goods, seasonal produce and locally caught seafood. Housed in a historic collection of buildings that was once the Naval Training Center and is now home to a thriving art, culture, dining and shopping area, the centrally-located public market brings the best of what the region has to offer to Liberty Station seven days a week.

TIME TO UNWIND

RAISE YOUR GLASS

San Diego is home to awardwinning craft breweries (12 within walking distance of the convention center). Make sure to taste what’s on the local taps! (Map on pg. 63) For a truly unique entertainment experience check out Striders, where you can sip classic cocktails and craft beers while you place your bets on horse racing.

LISTEN TO THE MUSIC

The Gaslamp Quarter is home to a vibrant nightlife! Take in live bands at the House of Blues, or Maryjane’s Underground at the Hard Rock (which never charges a cover). The Shout House is a truly unique experience, home to dueling pianos where you select and sing the songs. And if you dare, take on some karaoke at Tin Roof.
