SAN DIEGO ATTENDEE GUIDE 2O19-2O20
WELCOME On behalf of the citizens of San Diego, welcome to America’s Finest City!
Our city offers a relaxed atmosphere filled with friendly people and a thriving tourism industry. It is no surprise that San Diego is host to many large conventions and events every year. This year, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the San Diego Convention Center, our region’s premier gathering place. Although we’ve seen a lot of changes since 1989, people continue to want to come back for the San Diego experience. With nearly perfect weather every day, no attraction is off limits. Each community in San Diego has something different to offer! Our vibrant, multicultural city is home to relaxing beaches, luxurious shops in beautiful La Jolla, authentic Mexican food in Old Town, a vibrant nightlife in the Gaslamp Quarter, historic Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo and so much more. I am confident you will enjoy your time in San Diego, and thank you for choosing to visit our great city. I extend my warmest wishes for an enjoyable and successful event in San Diego. Sincerely,
Kevin L. Faulconer Mayor, City of San Diego

You’ll find 17 major museums in Balboa Park, including the Fleet Science Center, home to the world’s first IMAX Dome Theater. Visit the San Diego Model Railroad Museum to see one of the largest model displays in the world! Did you know that San Diego has sent more shows to Broadway than any other city in the U.S.? Between The Old Globe, the San Diego Civic Theatre and the Tony Award®-winning La Jolla Playhouse, you’ll be sure to find a musical, a comedy, a drama or the classics of Shakespeare to take in while you’re visiting.
ONLY IN SAN DIEGO
View the only Rembrandt painting on public display in San Diego at the Timken Museum; watch hand-blown glasswares come to life before your eyes at the Spanish Village Art Center (pg. 86) Baseball fans should head over to the San Diego Public Library; you’ll find a collection of memorabilia donated by the Ted Williams Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research.
