Known as the capital of Fjord Norway, Bergen is a beautiful Hanseatic city with wonderful architecture and many attractions. A walk along the famous Bryggen in Bergen, a visit to the Fish Market in the city centre and a trip on the Fløibanen Funicular to the summit of one of the seven mountains surrounding the city are just a few of the things you should do while you are in Bergen. We recommend taking the coast road south through Stord on the way back. Follow the road to Haugesund, drive to the island of Karmøy and take the ferry from Skudeneshavn to Stavanger. Follow the North Sea Road from Stavanger to Kristiansand.

When you travel through Setesdal, you should look for products marked ‘Smaken av Setesdal’ (a taste of Setesdal) – these products are produced locally in Setesdal.
The salmon staircase in Kvåsfossen - Sørnorsk Laksesenter, consist of concrete stairs built into a 220 metre long tunnel at the Kvås waterfall in Kvås, Lyngdal. There is a large glass viewing room where people can go in and see the salmon.

RISØR ‘The white towns’ along the coast of Southern Norway are characteristic of this part of Norway. The towns are known for their narrow streets and white wooden houses in idyllic locations by the sea, and Risør is the town with the best-preserved wooden houses. The town has a rich artistic scene and the archipelago is the town’s ‘park’. At Stangholmen Lighthouse at the very edge of the ocean, you can enjoy great food and drink and explore Risør’s archipelago.

The trip continues over the Haukelifjell mountains to Røldal and, from there, Odda, innermost in the Hardangerfjord, is just a short distance away. You can choose between several routes to Bergen, but we recommend the new tunnel under the Folgefonna glacier. Take the ferry across the Hardangerfjord from Årsnes to Gjermundshamn and follow the road to Bergen.
Why not also try some local beer from the local breweries Nøgne Ø or Lindesnes Brygghus? Lindesnes Brygghus is Norway’s southernmost brewery.
www.visitsouthernorway.com
The trip starts in Kristiansand. Follow Telemarksvegen road (the Rv41 road) towards Åmli and on to Dalen in Telemark county. There are several great summit walks in Åmli, for example to Lindestadknuten (858 metres). Well-marked paths and magnificent views. Dalen Hotel in Dalen is well worth a visit. With its ‘dragon style’ architecture, it looks like it comes straight out of a fairy tale.
HOTEL UTSIKTEN IN KVINESDAL The Bølgen & Moi Hotel Utsikten Kvinesdal has panoramic views over Kvinesdal. Guests can play golf at its professional 18 hole golf course, try out the restaurant or enjoy modern arts at the arts centre. Hotel Utsikten in Kvinesdal is situated between Kristiansand and Stavanger.
The town of Rjukan is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List due to its dramatic scenery and exciting World War II history. At 1,883 metres, Gaustatoppen is Telemark’s highest mountain. Follow the Telemark Canal towards the coast.

From Langesund to Kristiansand you can follow the coast road and enjoy the towns of white-painted houses along the coast. Risør is the town with the bestpreserved wooden houses along the coast and is well worth a visit. This island community, which is situated between Risør and Tvedestrand, has been voted the best preserved village in Europe. In the Age of Sail, Lyngør’s harbour buzzed with activity, but today there are only about 80 permanent residents left on the islands. The place comes alive in summer, however. Ferry connection to the mainland with several daily departures.
From Stavanger, drive south along the North Sea Road in the footsteps of the Vikings. The North Sea Road, the stretch of coast between Haugesund and Kristiansand, takes you through beautiful varied scenery. From the flat and wide open landscape of Jæren to more dramatic landscapes between Egersund and Flekkefjord. Here, the roads wind their way up and around deep fjords and high mountains. The landscape of Lista is characterised by large plains and long beaches before again becoming more dramatic in the area around Lindesnes. Then continue on the North Sea Road to Mandal and take a pleasant detour around Tregde and Langenes before arriving back in Kristiansand.
