BRIT ON TRIAL IN ALICANTE FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING A notorious British criminal, with a string of previous drug convictions, went on on trial in an Alicante court earlier this week

BRIAN Charrington, 61, was arrested in July 2013, along with nine other members of a suspected drug trafficking gang, following an operation by the National Police organised crime unit (GRECO), in collaboration with security forces in the UK, USA, France, Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil. During the operation, security officers seized 192 kilos of cocaine, believed to have a street value of around 9 million euros, hidden
inside an apartment in Playa del Albir, belonging to the accused, who at the time was amongst the top ten most wanted criminals in Europe. In addition to the stash of cocaine, which arrived into the country from South America via the port of Altea, police also seized assets including a dozen luxury properties, high end cars, six recreational boats and in addition, placed embargoes on bank accounts containing around a 5 million euros.
