As you will have read in my article last week, The Finance Tour is returning to the Costa Blanca for several dates in May and I thought it would be helpful to take a look back at lasts years tour to give people a flavour of what to expect.

Firstly I should point out that the feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees particularly focussing on how refreshing it was to be able to ask their questions direct to companies they knew and trusted from when they lived in the UK. Over the 2017 dates we had questions covering a wide range of financial concerns for Brits living here in Spain. Questioned ranged from how to invest safely and tax efficiently here in Spain, right up to more complex areas like Trust and Succession Planning for Spanish residents with UK based beneficiaries. Naturally a lot of questions also focussed on pension planning, and having a representative from a trusted UK pension company on the tour proved extremely useful. The tour offers an essential opportunity for British expats to hear from trusted ‘household-name’ institutions who

directly look after the finances of over 25 million people. Cut out the middle man, and ask those vital questions direct to the big UK institutions who have designed savings, investment and pension solutions specifically for British expats here in Spain.

There will be short presentations from The Prudential, Rathbones PLC and London & Colonial Pensions, followed by an open Q+A session. Afterwards there will be hot drinks and the chance to speak directly with our presenters and local experts. Attendance is essential for anyone seeking financial advice on investments, pension transfers, tax, succession planning, along with generic legal and tax advice relevant to your life here in Spain. For those with existing investments, including QROPS and Spanish bonds, you’ll discover how crucial changes to your underlying investments can strip away fees by as much as 75% and vastly improve returns. Visiting 6 popular venues on the Costa Blanca this May, attendance is free, but booking early is recommended due to limited availability. To remind everyone, the dates and venues are as follows: 9th May, 11:30am – La Zenia Hotel, Orihuela Costa 9th May, 4:00pm – La Laguna Hotel, Quesada 10th May, 11:30am – Akinon Resort, La Nucia 10th May, 4:00pm – Restaurant La Cultural, Benissa 11th May, 11:30am – Viva Espana, Oliva/Ganida 11th May, 4:00pm – Carrasco, Javea To book your free place or for more information visit www.thefinancetour.com or call 693107044

Warmer? “A little”, you may reply but night time is still on the cold side and that wind still keeps giving us a slight unwanted chill. But hey it’s not a big deal really we are on the brink of a hot long summer and will be soon welcoming any kind of wind chill! May is full of surprises and most of us expats know it’s going to be the first time we notice that parking the car becomes much harder especially anywhere near the beach and also that the roads are quite congested at certain times. Is that all we can moan about or is there more? For me and my family this time of year is really exciting as we plan for guests to come and spend time with us. This is when we really get to appreciate where we live and we hear time and time again how lucky we are to live in Spain and each year we remind ourselves of that. The pool is glistening although a tad to cold for me although I have witnessed our first guest of the year having a dip (crazy man) well he is 27 and fit as a butcher’s dog..... The idea of spending our first family day in the beach is certainly becoming a thrill so let’s hope the wind drops and we can all get on with what we do best here!!! Have a great week

Child Sex Slave Suspect A

woman has been arrested in Alicante and charged with sexual exploitation of a minor. She is believed to be involved in a Nigerian prostitution ring, trafficking women between parts of Spain to be sold for sex. The Alicante woman’s arrest was part of

an investigation that started in Malaga where two young women were being held against their will, one of who is a minor aged 16. Another woman was arrested in Malaga on similar charges. It is believed they both form part of a gang that ships young females from

Nigeria to refugee centres in Italy. Once their paperwork was in order they were moved to Spain where one of the bases for the operation was thought to be Benidorm. Police are hoping that these latest arrests have effectively closed down the sex trafficking ring.

does not drive. When the young woman ploughed into the group of six cyclists she had been returning from an all-night party and tested positive for drink and drugs. Two of the survivors of the crash, Andres Contreras and

Briton Scott Gordon suffered serious injuries and are still undergoing regular therapy. A third man, Jaime Escortell, escaped injury but has said he suffers psychological scars as the only person who fully witnessed the tragic event.

Rape laws under BACK ON THE the spotlight STREETS

WOMEN’S rights groups and many others across Spain are unhappy with five men being cleared of an alleged gang rape during the Pamplona bull running festival in 2016. The group were found guilty of the lesser charge of sexual abuse but due to Spanish laws were cleared of the more serious charge. These laws state that rape has to involve “violence or intimidation”. While the courts had no doubt that the 18-year-old was forced to have sex against her will, as she did not struggle, due to fear of the five older men who had taken her to the lobby of a building, the rape charge did not stand.

Ana Ollo, the Minister for Citizens in Navarre said “The government stands with the majority of its citizens who have expressed their unhappiness with the sentence. They cannot understand how there is no violence or intimidation in a case like this.” Many were also unhappy with the prosecutions focus on the young woman’s private life and harsh cross examination. A high level review of the existing rape law looks likely and one government spokesman called the verdict “despicable”. Both the victim and the defendants, who were jailed for nine years, are set to appeal against the verdict.

by Matthew Richards

GREGORIO Cano, who was convicted of 15 rapes and sexual assaults in 1998, is set to be controversially released from prison this week. In a notorious trial Cano was sentenced to 167 years in prison but under Spanish law can only serve a maximum of 20 years jailtime. Worryingly for some the man, still only 48 years old, is described as “nonrehabilitated”. Due to this the authorities have asked that Catalonia’s Mossos d’Esquadra monitor Cano, albeit in a “non-invasive way”. Cano was convicted of the assaults which took place over just a ten week period in 1998 in the Barcelona area. His method was to attack single women near deserted buildings or on quiet streets at night,

and threaten them with a knife held to their throat. The incidence of rapes had become so frequent that the police set a trap for the perpetrator using a female police officer to lure him out. When the trap worked subsequent DNA testing linked him to 15 assaults and two failed assaults although he may have been responsible for many more.

Mallorca shut the door on private rentals by Simon Russell

IN a move that will concern firms such as Air BnB, Palma de Mallorca has become the first Spanish city to effectively ban residents from renting out their properties as holiday homes. The governing PSOE feels that these have an overall negative impact with uncontrolled tourism and a high increase in rent for locals driven by the lucrative tourist rental market. Many apartments are also

unlicensed, so failing to generate taxation and possibly falling foul of health and safety regulations. Mayor Anthony Noguera said “Palma is a bold and decisive city. We agreed this move on the basis of general interest and we believe that it will create a trend in other cities when they see that finding a balance is key.” It is this last part of the mayor’s statement that will worry rental portals such as Air BnB and

tender agreement. There is also a full service over this bank holiday weekend, including Monday’s “bridging day” which will still be a normal working day for many. There will also be a surveillance and rescue service on the first two weekends in October and the 9 October bridging day.

Barcelona in particular has been struggling with similar issues to Palma and will be eyeing this move with interest. The only exception to the ban is detached single family homes, although not ones close to the airport or in non-residential areas. These make up only about 10% of Palma’s total housing stock.

dead at the scene. On the same day a helicopter was also called out to an incident where a 15-year-old girl had collapsed while hiking at the Tibi Reservoir. She was taken to Alicante Hospital as a precautionary measure as she is understood to have underlying heart problems.

A 16-year-old Valencian girl and her family appear to have won a battle to have her taught at home so she can pursue further education after finishing her compulsory schooling this year. Lucia Roncero suffers from a crippling form of dystrophy that leaves her wheelchair bound and in great pain at all times. As she is not well enough to travel to school she has had professional teachers at her home for her secondary education. She wanted to continue her studies at Bachillerato level, something the Ministry of Education said they could not help with as this is optional. However, after 200,000 signatures were collected in a month and presented to the Ministry they have agreed to find a solution that will allow Lucia to continue with her studies. Home help for sick or otherwise housebound children is available across most of the European Union but only Madrid offers this in Spain. Lucia was a perfectly healthy child until a fall five years ago brought on her disorder, a rare disease which causes

“unbearable pain even to the lightest touch.” The most famous sufferer is probably Belgian Paralympic athlete Marieke Vervoort. Still a young woman, Ms Vervoort has signed euthanasia papers and has said she is in such pain she expects to request her death “very soon”.

BALCONY DEATH widower makes touching donation

On the weekend friends and family of Kirsty Maxwell gathered in Benidorm to mark the first anniversary of her death, her grieving husband donated to a fund in memory of a young Scottish woman who fell to her death in similar circumstances last week, in Mallorca.

Teenager Natalie Cormack, who was only a month into her second season of bar work in the popular tourist resort of Magaluf, fell from a seventh floor balcony, in tragic circumstances last Friday. Reports suggest, Natalie, 19, had mislaid the keys to

her apartment in the Eden Roc complex and was trying to cross from a friend’s balcony to her own, when she slipped and fell to her death. Distraught friends and work colleagues of the victim set up a JustGiving page to initially raise 5000 pounds

towards costs involved in the repatriation of her body. Close friend, Zoe Gardiner, started the fundraising off with a 20 pound donation and the emotional message, “My angel gone but not forgotten”. In a touching gesture, Kirsty’s widower made his donation on sunday, exactly twelve months to the day after losing his bride, who fell to her death, in unexplained circumstances, from a tenth floor apartment in Benidorm’s Payma Apartments. His poignant accompanying message read, “So sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with family and friends at this very tough time. I hope you get your girl home with family as soon as possible. My thoughts are with you all.” After only 48 hours

the appeal had raised 6300 pounds for Natalie, who one contributor described as “A wild child, free spirited and so loveable, the world will be a lot less sparkly without her in it”. Meanwhile, the friends of Kirsty spent their day handing out leaflets and putting up posters, in the Rincon de Loix area of Benidorm, in the hope of jogging the memory of anyone who may have information on her tragic death. Time is running out for the investigation into Kirsty’s death, as to date no new evidence has come to light and a key spanish lawyer, Luis Miguel Zumaquero, has recently resigned from the case in a dispute over optimum legal strategy. With, Spanish judge Ana Isabel Garcia-Galbis, awaiting only DNA results from the victim’s body, a decision on whether the case remains open, will be made within weeks. Five British men, from the Nottingham area, who were staying in the apartment from which Kirsty fell, were interviewed by investigating officers, but none of them were charged. Should none of the DNA results taken from the five suspects show a match with those on the body, the

11

case will be closed, leaving Kirsty’s family facing a lengthy and expensive appeal, with no spanish legal representation, if they wish the investigation to continue. The family believe her death was not an accident and are concerned that clothes worn by Kirsty at the time of death, were discarded without forensic investigation. At a press conference, held to mark the anniversary, her Aunt, Angela Lee said, “One year we have been searching for justice, truth and answers…… this weekend we will mark in our own private way, remembering Kirsty and how special she was to us all”.

COSTA COFFEE WORKER THREW BUCKET OF WATER ON SCHOOLKIDS A father has shared footage of the moment that his daughter and a friend had water poured onto them by a Costa worker as they chose what to drink. Sade Harrison, 15, was with friends when the worker came out and asked a group of boys sitting in front of her to leave so that customers could use the tables. She said that one of her friends had already placed an order but was refused a drink and told to leave. They were asked to leave on another two occasions but then the worker came out with a bucket of water that he threw on the girls. She said she thought it might have been water from a mop bucket because

she came out in rashes. Sade said that he then locked the door to the branch to stop the children getting back inside. Her father Granville Harrison returned with his daughter to find out what the problem was. He said the worker told him he threw the water on the floor and not his daughter so he demanded to see the CCTV. He said: ‘When I saw the video it got me angry, very angry. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I didn’t think that kind of behaviour still happened today. ‘I was in shock that a staff member from a well-known chain would behave in that manner. I thought Costa Coffee had professional staff members.’ A spokesman for Costa Coffee, said: ‘We were extremely disappointed to see this behaviour from one of our baristas and have apologised to the family. ‘An immediate investigation was launched by our franchise partner and remains ongoing.’

DRIVER BANNED FOR SWITCHING SEAT DURING AUTO PILOT ON M1 A Tesla Model S 60 driver from Nottingham in the United Kingdom has been banned from driving after leaving the driver’s seat while his vehicle was engaged in its autopilot mode. Bhavesh Patel was filmed shifting from the driver’s seat to the front passenger seat while the electric car was travelling at 40mph on the M1 motorway near Hemel Hempstead. Pleading guilty at St Albans Crown Court, Patel, 39, told those in attendance at his hearing that he was “the unlucky one who got caught”, insinuating that other Tesla drivers with vehicles capable of similar skills are known to act similarly. Patel has been banned from driving for 18 months, must complete 100 hours of unpaid community service work, and must pay the Crown Prosecution Service costs of £1,800. of Caldicutt Kirk PC Hertfordshire Police called Patel’s

irresponsible” “grossly actions stating that they “could have easily ended in tragedy.” Tesla’s electric car vehicles are among the most technologically advanced on the road, with the autopilot mode in question using sensors and cameras around the and radar including vehicle, ultrasonic sensors, to maintain speed, safe distances from the car around it, and activate braking systems in an emergency without the input of a driver. However, despite its long-term driverless car ambitions, Tesla itself has never claimed that it’s autopilot mode on current models is a replacement for a human driver and, in a statement regarding Patel’s case, stated that the feature should only be used to aid a “fully attentive driver.” Watch the clip of the driver at www.Weekender.News or visit The Weekender Facebook page.

E IR A N IO L IL M A E B O T S WHO WANT WITH A NEW TWIST! Jeremy Clarkson is swapping the high-octane world of fast cars for the high-pressure world of primetime quiz shows. The former “Top Gear” presenter is set to host “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” when the show returns to British screens this Saturday for a week-long run of special episodes on ITV. The contestants – who will have to answer all 15 questions correctly to win the jackpot – will be helped along the way by familiar lifelines of Ask The Audience, Phone a Friend and 50:50, plus a brand new fourth lifeline – Ask The Host. Contestants will be able to quiz presenter Clarkson for the answer, or ask if he has an opinion on what it could be. The former Top Gear host never sees the questions ahead of the contestants, so there is no guarantee

he will know the answer. Which could be awkward. And even Clarkson’s admitted he’s a little nervous. “If the contestant chooses that lifeline [Ask The Host], they get to ask me if I know the answer,” he told ITV. “I have always loved the show and am thrilled to be involved with its rebirth,” said Clarkson, who was fired from the BBC’s “Top Gear” after a confrontation with a member of the production team. He now fronts Amazon’s motoring series, “The Grand Tour,” the streamer’s most popular original. ”God help them. Anyone who doesn’t win £1,000,000 is bound, at some point, to ask me if I know the answer. “And if it’s 1970s prog rock music, I probably will. If it’s anything other than that, I probably won’t.”

Another new twist confirmed by ITV will feature contestants being able to set their own second ‘safety net’ amount. There is a fixed safety net at £1,000, meaning once a contestant has successfully answered Question 5 and won £1,000, that’s the minimum they will take home. Traditionally, the second safety net was automatically set at £32,000. However, in these seven celebratory episodes, this new twist will allow the second safety net to be set by each contestant. Once they have banked £1,000, they will be given the opportunity to set their safety net ahead of the next question being asked.

Catch the new series on Saturday 5th May at 10.15pm (9.15pm GMT) on ITV

In a close vote, home secretary Sajid Javid is said to have joined pro-Brexit ministers to turn down an option that would see Britain collect EU customs tariffs on behalf of Brussels, a “customs partnership” that would allow UK businesses to keep low-friction trade with Europe and allow the EU to keep revenue from import cargoes. Instead, the pro-Brexit faction has proposed to exit the customs union, then use technology and “maximum facilitation” policies to streamline border checks between the EU and Britain. May’s office maintains that both alternatives are still on the table, and she has asked her advisors to come up with “revised proposals.” Her Brexit secretary, David Davis, said that ministers “are taking more time” to review the merits of the alternatives. Brussels’ Brexit negotiators have rejected both options.

not all of this is passed on to the customer due to consumer protection laws, with most people seeing about a 14% increase in their domestic bills. Despite the hikes, electricity is still cheaper than at the corresponding period in 2017.

May’s Government Turns Down Brexit Customs Plan The cabinet of UK Prime Minister Theresa May has rejected her preferred option for Britain’s postBrexit customs relationship with the EU, according to sources familiar with the discussions. The details of the UK’s exit from the EU customs union have significant implications for British ports - especially the busy ro/ro passenger ports at Dover and Holyhead.

Serious implications for ferry ports The UK’s maritime industry has called for Prime Minister May’s government to reach an agreement on EU trade in the post-Brexit era or risk serious problems at UK’s ports. In March, the UK and EU reached a crucial deal for a transition period in which Britain will remain within the common market and customs union; however, May will still have to negotiate a policy for customs after the transition ends. “Our biggest concerns are Dover and Holyhead. There will be new customs requirements that could cause particular challenges for roll-on roll-off ferry ports which handle tens of thousands of [trucks] travelling between the UK and the EU each day,” warned Maritime UK head David Dingle in February. The status of Northern Ireland, a province of Britain, is a key sticking point in EU-UK negotiations over trade. Both sides would prefer not to impose customs checks at the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland, which was a militarized zone during the 30-year conflict between the IRA and British security forces. Under a “backstop” deal, Northern Ireland would continue to use EU customs regulations, which could effectively create a border between two parts of the UK.

programmes, local sports, news and programmes from the old Canal 9 archive. There will also be live broadcasts from the Valencian parliament. There are concerns from some that the channel will serve as a mouthpiece for Valencian independence supporters, claims reinforced for some by the fact that the man in charge has a background in Catalan public

broadcasting. At this stage the full programming schedule has not been announced and what is currently being aired is more of a trial start-up. However star name presenter Carolina Ferre has been confirmed as a signing for the new station, something seen as a major coup. Ferre is originally from Alicante but moved to Catalonia to further her career; she will host the evening magazine programme “A Punt”.

20 questions you should ask when taking financial advice.

By Christina Brady

BLACKTOWER Financial Management

When I think about what’s important in my business, it´s all about getting to the heart of the most important issues and understanding what concerns you most, be it now or in the future. To do this it’s important to ask the right questions, both of yourself and your Financial Adviser. Here’s my list of the top 20, there are lots more I am sure, but at least these are some to start with: 1. Do you know your income after tax per year and what you spend and save? (if anything) 2. What is your current net worth? (Liquid and illiquid assets) 3. If you have debts what are they, what interest rate are you

paying and are there ways you can borrow more efficiently? 4. Will you have/or do you have enough funds to retire when you want to with the standard of living you want? 5. Is there anything you want to do /accomplish in your life? 6. Do you have a contingency fund? 7. If anything happens to you will your family know what to do, do they have a copy of your will, a list of key contacts, details of bank accounts , investments pensions etc etc? 8. What about IHT in the UK and the country you are tax resident in, do you know what you or your beneficiaries are liable to pay in each country? 9. Do you have a current Will? 10. Are the people named as beneficiaries in your Will still the

ones you want? 11. Do you want to name beneficiaries under your investments, these can be different to your beneficiaries in your Will? 12. Is there a legitimate way to reduce your income tax and or IHT liabilities? 13. What is your risk tolerance, how much risk are you taking right now? Risk is not your enemy it can be beneficial to you but it needs to be managed as much as possible. 14. What is your current asset allocation, with all the things you own? 15. With regards to investments, be that financial or property what has been your rate of return over the years? This is easier for financial investments but with a house e.g. taking into consideration all expenses not just appreciation of the value of a property, improvements,

mortgage repayments, insurance payments, taxes etc. 16. If you´re under State retirement age what State pension will you be entitled to and when, can you pay extra to top it up and receive more, is that worthwhile doing? 17. If you have children/ grandchildren would you like, when they are older, to be able to help them with university costs or give them money towards a car or a house deposit? A savings plan could help. 18. If you have investments and or private pensions do you understand them and how they work? 19. Have you provisions in place if you need care when you get older so as not to burden your family? 20. Do want a stress free retirement knowing your financial affairs are in order? Life is too short, health can be a

Bye bye Beetle Is that a gearstick or are you just pleased to see me?

VOLKSWAGEN has announced it will be ceasing sales of the German firms iconic Beetle Coupe in Spain, although the convertible version will still be available for an undisclosed period. The vehicles biggest problem was probably that it could only seat four people and had a small boot space, effectively

excluding the family market. However many motorists were fans of the sporty but quirky car, which will still be on sale in much of the rest of Europe. Volkswagen has not been afraid to alter its range in Spain, with the Scirroco and Cabrio Golf both being withdrawn from sale here in recent years.

THE city of Lugo is banning all sexual relations in cars and other vehicles parked in public places. The new law is mainly part of a crackdown on prostitution but encompasses private citizens going about their business, so to speak. Partly this is also a tightening up of current obscenity laws after the crime of “public scandal” was removed from the statute books which left a grey area regarding sexual relations in public places but inside private vehicles.

Anyone caught breaking the new law could face a fine of up to €3,000, with the maximum being applicable if the act is carried out near places such as schools. Not everyone is happy, calling it an intrusion on private life and drawing private citizens into the fight against prostitution which is rife in parts of the city. Some point out that as people leave home at an older age, sometimes a car is the only place where young couples can have some privacy.

Red Bull hand Hamilton victory

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Lewis Hamilton snatched an unlikely victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix after Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas was forced to retire with just three laps to go in a dramatic finale in Baku. Defending Formula One champion Hamilton benefited from Sebastian Vettel locking up when attempting to overtake Bottas at the restart following a late safety car, before the Finn sustained a puncture after appearing to drive over some debris. The Briton consequently had his first win in seven races handed to him, with Kimi Raikkonen taking second and Sergio Perez securing the last step on podium. Lewis Hamilton lit the bluetouch paper on his Formula 1 title defence by snatching a

dramatic victory in Sunday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, cashing in from a dramatic final 15 laps to pick up his first win of the season. Hamilton was running more than 20 seconds back from race-leader Valtteri Bottas with 15 laps to go, only for a collision between Red Bull teammates Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen to kickstart a dramatic sequence of events that swung the race in the Briton’s favour. Sebastian Vettel appeared to have the race under control for Ferrari, but he could only finish fourth after a late mistake as Sergio Perez took Force India’s first podium since 2016, while Valtteri Bottas saw his win hopes evaporate after suffering a puncture with just three laps to go.

Andy Murray out of French Open Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has withdrawn from the French Open. Murray, 30, won’t be returning from a hip surgery during the clay-court season. The Scot is due to return to competitive action in the opening week of the grass-court season in s-Hertogenbosch. There were speculations Murray could return at one of the newly staged British indoor-hard court Challenger events in Glasgow and Loughborough. However, the Scot isn’t featuring this week’s Glasgow Challenger and also won’t be participating at the Loughborough Challenger which is also due to take place this month. Murray has played at Roland Garros 10 times so far during his career. The Scot’s best result at

the French Open came in 2016 when he ended runner-up to Serb Novak Djokovic in the final. Murray, who debuted at the French Open in 2006, also lost four times in the semi-finals stage at the tournament. The Briton also missed the 2013 French Open edition due to an injury. The s-Hertogenbosch event has been scheduled to take place from 11-17 June. A place in the French Open has now opened up for rising Briton Cameron Norrie following Murray’s withdrawal.

Joseph Parker eyeing Haye v Bellew as he seeks quick return to UK

Joseph Parker trained at David Haye’s London gym in the leadup to his world heavyweight unification fight with Anthony Joshua. New Zealand heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker is eyeing the winner of David Haye v Tony Bellew as he seeks a quick return to Britain to cash in on his popularity there. Parker is eager to get back to the UK after his unanimous points loss to Anthony Joshua on April 1. There are options there though it will be a case of who wants to risk their rankings and reputations against Parker, who on Thursday was placed at No 5 by the WBO after losing the organisation’s heavyweight belt to Joshua. That ranking matches the

allocation from the WBC while Ring magazine’s independent rankings place him at No 4. Haye and Bellew line out in London next week in a rematch that will likely end the career of the loser. Bellew won the first encounter by an 11th round TKO as Haye battled gamely on a blown out Achilles tendon late in the fight. Pumped-up cruiserweight Bellew, in particular, has been vocal and derogatory about Parker’s abilities though his interest in the Kiwi late last year was more about the WBO belt than anything else. Parker’s promoter David Higgins told Sky Sports in the UK that the winner of Haye v Bellew held interest to them. “The question is whether they

would be willing to step up? I think most people would see Anthony Joshua at this point as the ‘Golden Goose’, and the big queue of people sitting on their hands and waiting a year, maybe two years for a shot, which may or may not happen. “For those British contenders, respect to the one that does step up to Parker, because I think, despite Parker not quite getting the win, he gained a lot of respect, and is the first man to take Joshua the distance.” Parker has a friendship with Haye, using the former world heavyweight champion’s London gym in the buildup to his two fights in the UK over the past eight months against Hughie Fury and Joshua.

RFU reduces plastic use at Twickenham The Rugby Football Union is to dramatically reduce the use of plastics at Twickenham Stadium the home of the England team. The RFU are to implement measures following concerns about the environmental impact of singleuse plastics. The governing body are expected to phase out the use of plastic bottles, straws, cutlery,

stirrers and packaging this year, and replace them with biodegradable alternatives. Beer and cider at Twickenham are currently sold or recycled through an ‘Ecocup’ system, introduced in 2014, which has cut an estimated 150,000 plastic glasses from their waste. The reduction is akin to over one tonne of plastic waste per Test

match. The news comes after the Premier League joined up with Sky’s Ocean Rescue campaign to phase out plastic use last month. Tottenham are one of the first clubs to commit to the initiative by phasing out single-use plastics from their new 61,000-seater stadium on the former White Hart Lane site, which will be opened next season.

Will this be David Haye’s Last Fight?

David Hayes has given his prediction for Saturday night’s must win clash with Tony Bellew, and many fans will be surprised by how the Londoner sees the fight going. Bellew was the shock winner when the two met for their first fight, dominating the opening rounds until Haye damaged his achilles tendon in the 6th and fought on with the injury until the towel was thrown in late on. In the build up to their first fight Haye, who was baptising Bellew at heavyweight, predicted an early knock out which never came for the Liverpudlian. In fact the only time Bellew looked really uncomfortable in the fight was when Haye accidentally headbutted him in the 6th. With the former heavy world champion needing a convincing win to keep his career alive many fans will be surprised to learn that Haye doesn’t see this

one ending early. Bellew appears to have earned some respect from the Haye maker, with the favourite telling fans that this one will go to the later rounds once again. ‘Normally I look to close the show quickly, but, this time, I will drag it out for as long as Tony can stand up,’ the 37 year old said. ‘He will not hear the final bell. I will break him down and stop him. I believe this fight goes longer than six rounds. I am looking and bringing this fight as log as it can go. ‘It will be toe-totoe action. I will bring the heat way more than I did last time. Last time it wasn’t educated pressure, it was just reckless. This time it will be educated.’ If Haye can’t deliver the victory this time around it will be hard for him to trash talk anyone else in the heavy weight division and this could be his final fight.

THE FINAL Liverpool will face holders Real Madrid in Champions League Final Liverpool have progressed to the Champions League final after riding their luck to contain a fired-up Roma in a 4-2 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico that sent the English side through 7-6 on aggregate. The five-times European champions, who will face holders Real Madrid in the May 26 final, twice took the lead but were forced to hang on in the second half as Roma created chances before Radja Nainggolan’s two late goals put the hosts ahead on the night. Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead after nine minutes, but a bizarre own goal by James Milner levelled for Roma. A Georginio Wijnaldum header put Liverpool back in front but Roma were given renewed belief when Edin Dzeko fired past Loris Karius early in the second half.

Nainggolan drilled in from distance after 86 minutes to make it 3-2 and smashed home a penalty in stoppage time but it was too late for the Italians. “We never do it the easy way, unfortunately,” Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson said. ”It was an amazing effort. In the first half we did well

and scored some good goals. Overall we handled the situation well apart from the last 10 minutes.” Liverpool’s task was seemingly straightforward after a 5-2 win at Anfield avoid suffering a three-goal defeat and a place in the final in Kiev was theirs. Liverpool will play Real Madrid in Kiev on May 26 as

the Spanish side tries to win the Champions League for the third year in a row. “It’s been a fantastic ride so far,” Klopp said. “Now we will go to Kiev which sounds crazy but it’s true. “There’s still a job to do. Going to a final is really nice, but winning it is nicer. We will be ready. But it’s Real Madrid.”
