Ricky Martin Living La Vida Loca in Benidorm

One of Latino music’s greatest stars and biggest selling artists is heading to Benidorm this Summer on the Spanish leg of his World tour.

Yes, Ricky Martin, whose worldwide hits include ‘Living La Vida Loca’, ‘She Bangs’ and ‘Cup of Life’, will be in concert at the resorts Guillermo Amor Football Stadium on Wednesday August 22nd.

Puerto Rican, Martin, 46, heads to Spain on the back of the resounding success of his two-year Park Theater, Las Vegas residency show, “All In”.

The singer, who began his career at the age of twelve as a member of boy band Menudo, has become arguably the biggest male celebrity in Latino music, responsible for helping to popularise the genre towards its current worldwide phenomenon.

Martin, whose recent acting appearances include a role in the highly

acclaimed TV series ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story’, playing the designers boyfriend, Antonio D’Amico, has also become a poster boy for LGBT causes, following his adoption of twin boys and marriage to husband Jwan Yosef.

The heartthrob musician will appear with a full band and his performance promises to include all his major hit singles, plus a selection of new material from recent albums.

Tickets for the Benidorm concert, which begins at 21.00h, with prices ranging from 35€ to 125€, went on sale yesterday,

Gas Leak A machine that was tarmacking a road in Denia sunk into the street, causing a gas main to be ruptured.

The accident occurred on Calle Lepanto this Tuesday and residents were advised to stay in their houses, close all windows and other gaps and not use naked flames for cooking, smoking etc. There were also traffic delays in the area while the surrounding roads were cordoned off for safety reasons.

The leak was repaired after about four hours, but questions are being asked about the quality of the new roads if they could not support the weight of the asphalt machine.

Tourist train on track THE tender process for the new tourist train in Altea is now open after the council published details of the proposal in the Alicante Provincial Bulletin. The successful bidder will be paid a planned €14,099 a year and the initial concession period will be for four years. Criteria taken into account before deciding on the new service include a low carbon footprint and the ability to maintain the ticket price for at least the first two years of the operation.

Run aground

PASSENGERS on-board the Denia to Ibiza ferry had to be transferred to smaller vessels to disembark after the boat ran aground last Friday.

The Pinar del Rio, owned and operated by Balearia, grounded at the entrance to San Antonio port with 175 passengers on board. While the passengers were evacuated the 64 vehicles on board could not be moved until Monday.

Balearia has apologised to all those affected and offered a free trip as compensation for the inconvenience; they have also launched a full investigation.

Extra vessels have been laid on to replace the damaged ferry which has been under repair in a dry dock on Ibiza, something expected to take around ten days.

Albir beach traffic restrictions begin The annual restriction of vehicle movements along the beachfront of El Albir began last week, preventing access at key times of the day.

Alfas del Pi’s public safety department have released details of the hours of closure for both the Carrer Federico Garcia Lorca beach road and the Paseo de las Estrellas seafront boulevard.

began yesterday with road closures occurring on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 20.00h and 01.30h.

However, during the resort’s famous annual nineday film festival, from July 6th to July 15th, the restrictions will apply every day.

Following on from the latter date, the closures will occur from Thursdays through to Sundays.

Safety precautions on the

beachfront Paseo de Estrellas, heading from the anchor statue in the direction of Altea, which begin this coming Friday June 22nd, will see the road close from 17.00h to 01.30h daily until September 22nd.

Announcing the road closures, spokesperson for Alfas Town Hall, Genoveva Tent, said, “These are measures that are adopted every year by the Department of Public Safety to limit the movement of vehicles in areas of greater influx of people due to the high season tourist.”

Benidorm new build in Air BnB fightback

A prestigious new property development in a priveliged position on Benidorm’s beachfront will ban residents from renting their properties for short stays.

Apartment owners in the new Delfin building, which recently opened its residential sales office on site in the exclusive Cala de Benidorm area of the resort, will have covenants built into their purchase restricting rentals on their property for periods of two months or less.

With many cities and tourist resorts around the world bringing in measures to counteract the rise of short term holiday companies such as Air BnB and Home and Away, which allow individuals to rent unlicensed rooms, apartments and villas for vacations via their websites, the controversial decision has been welcomed as a positive move in the current ‘Tourismofobia’ argument.

Promoters of the development, which has licenses granted and where construction is due to begin imminently announced their intentions last week, in a statement which said, “To guarantee a strictly residential use, we assume this decision will deter certain buyers who had thought of buying flats in the development as a means to offer them as tourist apartments.”

Whilst understanding the decision may prove detrimental to initial sales, the company hope to guarantee that the development will adhere, “to a model of responsible and sustainable tourism like the one that has historically characterised in Benidorm, assuring buyers that they will not be purchasing a property in an undercover hotel.

“Our aim is to be the reference point new residential building in Benidorm with our decision to regulate holiday rentals from the beginning of the project,” sad a Delfin project source.

Urban jungle CARRER Estret de Xabia is officially the most photographed street in the Old Town area of Javea. This is due to its striking display of urban greenery, with plants packed along the narrow cobbled streets. This came about after residents on the street entered a competition in 2015 for the best decorated road.

They filled the road, walls and balconies with plants and flowers and liked the effect so much they vowed to keep the vegetation. In fact they have added to it, making the little street an unexpected stop off on the Javea tourist trail.

Beach clinic THE first aid station on Calpe’s La Fossa beach is now open and will remain so during the whole summer period. It has moved its location from last year and is now on Avenida Juan Carlos 3 where it will be open seven days a week from 10am to 6pm. This is the tenth successive year Playa La Fossa has had this service, which is run by the Marina Salud.

RECENTLY published letters from a US couple who visited the Marina Alta to see relatives and got caught in the outbreak of the Civil War, gives a fascinating insight into local life at this tempestuous period of local history. Emilio Montfort had immigrated from Gata de Gorgos to New York when he was just 17, where he met Carmen Besteiro who had Spanish ancestry but had never visited the country.

In July 1936 they decided to visit Emilio’s family for the first time since he left, unaware of the brewing war. His letters start off by describing the six week voyage from New York to France and then on to Spain. Travelling via Paris then Barcelona the journey ended

Fuel dump Dealing with drought

AN explosive situation was safely brought under control in Denia last Saturday after a car lost its tank of fuel on a busy street last Saturday. The Opel Omega sprung a

leak on Calle Temple Sant Telm, leaving a 400 metre trail of fuel in the middle of the road. A local fire engine was mobilised and treated the fuel with 60 kilos of

sepiolite which dries and neutralises diesel and petrol.

Traffic was disrupted but returned to normal after the fire crew were happy the area was safe.

THE water supply company for Javea and a foundation created to promote careful use of water in the area have been meeting to discuss ways of avoiding and dealing with drought conditions in the town. Mayor Jose Chulvi also attended the meeting, with all parties agreeing that good communication and awareness by consumers was crucial to the future.

Measures proposed included an emergency increase in water taxes during very dry spells and more hydro efficient housing. The latter could be state of the art water meters or something as low tech as householders being

encouraged to use water butts to store water during rainy periods. The promotion of low irrigation Mediterranean gardens over thirsty green areas such as lawns was also suggested. On a bigger scale the increase in capacity of the desalinisation plant and improving the supply network were also on the table.

In summary, the chairman of the Water Foundation said that facing the very real risk of drought in this area needs to be both a public and social commitment, with citizen’s roles being crucial.

Death of man who changed city skyline THE architect responsible for arguably Benidorm’s best known and most recognisable building has died at the age of 83. Antonio Escario designed the GranHotel Bali, which sits at

the end of Poniente beach but is clearly visible from all over the resort. The 210 metre, 52 floor skyscraper was the tallest building is Spain when it was built in 2002, an accolade it held for five years.

Escario has designed dozens of other buildings ranging from the main terminal building at Vigo Airport to the Church of Assumption in Albacete. He held senior public and private sector

roles throughout his life and was also a professor at Valencia’s School of Architecture for 18 lifetime including the National years. He was elected to Spain’s Architecture Prize in 1993.

Kathmandu Nepalese & Indian Restaurant are one of the leading names in the Costa Blanca for a dining experience that is truly memorable, a night out for dinner is a pleasure that we all Brits love but even more so for the taste of spicy food. Going to the Kathmandu was something that I had decided was going to be an experience mainly because I had heard so many great things about them. Most surprising

for me was the fact that they are the only restaurant chain specifically for Indian and Nepalese cuisine across the popular towns of Costa Blanca, Albir, Moraira, Javea and Denia. I have seen the restaurant in Moraira and Javea many times when in those areas and more recently when they opened their new restaurant in Albir I was really looking forward to visiting them. So now was my time, upon arriving I could see that the tables were mainly taken so luckily I had made a reservation. We sat down to

be welcomed by one of the family behind this successful restaurant chain. Pushpa took the time to chat to us and was most welcoming before we were served with drinks and popadoms. There was a choice of four dips served mint, onion, mango and Nepalese chutney. The combination of the dips were exactly what I wanted to get the old taste buds flowing.

Served next was the mixed starter a display of chicken tikka, Vegetable pakora, onion Baji and chicken pakora. The plate looked amazing and everything was cooked with perfection with soft mouth watering chicken and soft spicy batter coating with the pakora.

When looking at the menu I was drawn towards a favourite of mine Chicken Chilli a Nepalese dish that has a distinct combination tender barbecued chicken cooked in Nepalese spices with a creamy spicy sauce touched

with green chillies.

The other main was the chicken tikka Massala very popular wth those who prefer a smooth sweet tomato sauce typical Indian mild curry with ground almonds, butter & fresh cream.

Let’s Make the Sport less complicated?

IF everything within the world of Golf was healthy then the governing bodies would happily leave it untouched. “If it ain’t broken don’t fix it!” Clearly this is not the case as we have witnessed several significant changes in recent months. The impregnable monolith that is the governing body of Golf, has gained a reputation for being as flexible and as movable as an oil tanker.

Many would argue that this is exactly how it should be.

When you have a set of rules that have been in place for more than 100 years why change them?

The answer is

obvious. Many of them are inappropriate for the modern game and worse still, when taken literally they have often caused the game to be ridiculed.

We have all seen the ludicrous situations where an armchair TV zealot has called out a professional player for moving a leaf.

The result being that the “culprit” has been severely penalised and suffered substantial loss of income and status.

So it is time to change and the changes proposed are welcome.

Most of the rule changes have been dealt with in some detail in many publications but there is one change that does appear to have only a minimum

amount of exposure and that is the changes to the golf handicap system.

With very little pomp and fanfare a conglomerate of the world’s golf Associations are about to introduce a single Global Handicap System.

What does that mean?

It means that your handicap here in Spain is totally portable, even within the UK where one of the stumbling blocks has been the absence of a Slope rating for the courses.

The Slope system of rating for a golf course considers the difficulty that a scratch handicap player would experience in playing it and as a result each course is provided with a weighting which

then adjusts the playing handicap of each player by either allowing extra shots or reducing the shot allowance. This has huge benefit when visiting courses that are either easier of more difficult and it means that a player with a handicap gained on a easy course will not suffer unduly when playing against opponents from one that is more difficult.

With the universal acceptance of a Global Handicap System the sport should now become fairer.

What changes are being proposed?

Motivated by the need to encourage more new players into the game the Associations have proposed that a handicap

can be issued after a player has completed a minimum of 54 holes. These can be over a series of 9 or 18 holes. The belief is that new players are deterred by the apparent difficulty in obtaining a handicap but once issued it will provide an incentive to continue participating.

The score cards will no longer show an embarrassing 9 or worse as the upper limit for handicap purposes will be set at a net double bogey.

General play will now take into consideration any eight scores from the previous 20 rounds.

Thus a player who is experiencing a period of poor form, which is exceptional, will not have an automatic handicap adjustment.

The limits on the nature of the games that qualified for handicap purposes can now be relaxed by the local associations and where previously official handicaps were calculated following competitive rounds, this calculation

may now be applied to less formal events and even to social games.

Will these changes result in an influx of new enthusiastic players? In isolation probably not, but any move away from the perceived “stuffiness” of the game is to be welcomed.

When added to other initiatives to make golf more open, our favourite sport will surely survive and hopefully we will see it grow in popularity.

Golf in the Province of Alicante

THE influence of golf in the rovince of Alicante is growing, every day there is more interest in the sport and the benefits of golf oriented tourism.

The first course to be opened in the province was for the Villamartin Golf Club in 1972 situated in the town of Torrevieja, Orihuela. 62 kms. the N-332 road from Alicante – Cartagena down the coast to the south from the Airport of Alicante/ Elche the then costal road to the Mar Menor. This was followed 1974, by the Don Cayo Club de Golf in the picturesque coastal town of Altea, 58 kms. up the same coastal road to the north from the airport.

The interest in golf in the area was about to start and flourish. This was the result of the development of La Manga Golf Resort on the Mar Menor. The numerous new house owners and golfers that were having to travel by road, the 150 kms. south to the La Manga Golf Resort close to Cartagena in the Provence of Murcia, from the airport in Alicante.

The number of spectators from all over Europe and farther afield that came to watch the best national and international golf players, playing in the Spanish Open from 1972 to 1977 (In 1975 won by Arnold Palmer). All of this helped to promote golf in the province.

MOST of golf courses in the province function as Pay & Play facilities together with the season ticket holders (abonados), many have a hotel on the complex or near-by and there is plenty of alternative accommodation in the other Hotels, apartments in the area.

There is no such thing as a bad golf Course! It is only that some are better than others.

A golf course in Spain requires among other things, is that the water used for the irrigation of the course needs to in the majority be re-cycled. For this reason, you will find that most of the courses that are not close to a local township have Housing Urbanizations and Hotels situated within or close to the golf complex.

Golf is different when you play in the sunshine of the Province of Alicante.

Under the Sports Laws in Spain all players must be licenced under the Real Federation de Golf de España to be covered by the Federation’s insurance.

As such all players that are not in possession of the full licence are required to purchase a daily temporary licence that costs €2.50.

“Play your best Shot”

GOLF is all about playing to one’s best ability, this is not only the score that is taken, but also the way it which the game is played.

I was asked the other day by a frustrated golfer to write his desires in a more golfing form and at the same time translate them into English.

His wish is that ever player would follow his suggestions, some of them are included in the following; Take care of the course and enjoy your Golf.

Respect the Spirit of the Game, the Etiquette, the Rules of Golf as laid down by the R & A Rules the USGA, The Real Federacion de Golf de España and the Local Rules of the Course.

What is missing in a lot of Golf Clubs is the availability of the Local Rules of the course, that a player can read, or take a copy with them at the start of play.

It is the responsibility of the golf course to prepare and display the Local Rules. These rules should define the boundaries of the course, the marking of the margins of the water and lateral water hazards, ground under repair, any special conditions for relief (a Drop Area) from water hazards, ground under repair, a protected area or any part of the course that is not in a normal situation (due to maintance work, weather conditions etc.).

The boundaries of the course are defined by the

nearest point on the course side of all walls, metal fence posts and white painted wooden stakes at ground level, if white lines are painted on the ground these lines take priority over any other straight lines between stakes or posts.

Water Hazards are marked with Yellow stakes and or lines.

Lateral water hazards are defined by Red stakes and or lines.

Ground under repair (GUR) is marked with Blue stakes and or lines.

Relief must be taken from all GUR. areas.

There are optional drop areas on the right of the GUR on hole 16.

The sand covered path ways and waste areas on holes 4 & 5 are part of the

course the ball is played as it lies, (the club can be grounded in these areas).

Requirements for play; All players must be in procession of a valid licence as issued by the Real Federacion Española de Golf (Annual or Daily).

1. Play with courtesy for all other players.

2. Play with respect and care of the golf course.

Play within the established time. The time for a round of 18 holes is 4hrs. 30 mins.

Avoid slow play by keeping up with the group ahead. Should a clear hole be lost from the group ahead, SPEED UP to correct your time on the next hole if unable to do so, call any waiting group behind, to pass through.

If you think that your

ball may be lost, Play a provisional ball.

The search time for your ball is limited to 5 mins.

From when you arrive at the spot where you think your ball may be resting.

Buggies must be kept on the paths or in the rough.

They are not permitted on the fairways.

At the Green, Buggies should be parked near to the exit and facing the Next Tee. Replace any divots taken on the fairways or sand fill if the facility is available.

Rake the bunker after playing a shot and place the rake close to the edge of the bunker when finished.

Do not play if the group ahead is within range (of your best shot).

Advise any person

that may be in danger of being hit by your ball, By shouting “FORE” (in Spain BOOOOOLAA).

Walk with care on the greens.

Repair your pitch marks on the greens.

Place the flagstick gently on the surface of the green.

Do not go fishing for balls in the lakes, retrieve your own ball and take the penalty relief.

Use the waste paper baskets, do not throw things on the ground.

There are toilet facilities situated around the course please use these stops if the need is required.

COMMON FAULTS AND FIXES POOR POSTURE The body angles you create are vitally important and the quality of your “static” position at address determines the quality of your body motion and your balance.

The creation of good angles in the beginning allows you to maintain them throughout the swing. A sound posture is the prerequisite for good golf. Therefore, you must try to make the best possible posture you can, bearing in mind the different physical attributes you have.

FAULT Most players create bad set up positions by either, bending too much in the knees or bending too much from the waist.

Both positions create bad body angles which are impossible to maintain during the swing. The associated effects are

With this simple exercise you can easily create the correct body angles relevant to your physique. Whilst standing vertically with your feet shoulder width apart, place a club along your

Are strict dress codes an outdated principle?

Does it affect your game when you find yourself following a fourball wearing collarless tee shirts or multi-coloured trainers?

As you watch this group tee off are you thinking that this can often be the outfit that is the preamble to loud behaviour as putts are sunk or drives are occasionally long and straight and accompanied by any lack of consideration for the course and the other players?

Increasingly, this is a dilemma facing the more traditional courses where there is a universal need to attract more young players and an equally pressing need to maintain certain

standards. These days, when profit is all-important, it is most unlikely that you will see a player being turned away because his sportswear is unacceptable.

In many cases the want of suitable sports wear is merely the result of a lack of awareness and this

can be easily addressed.

Where a club wishes to adhere to certain standards there should be clearer signage at the clubhouse indicating what dress codes is acceptable and enforcement when it isn’t observed. This should be modified to allow for

modern standards rather than harking back to “the good old days”. A few years ago at an old course west of London I was chased down on the tenth tee by the Marshall who advised me that a complaint had been registered by an elderly member because my knee-length socks were the wrong colour and could I change them. Happily the member I was playing with told him in no uncertain terms what he thought of this intrusion.

It is undoubtedly true that when you change into a smart golf shirt and shorts with clean shoes this creates the best mental attitude. There is a feeling of preparedness. Whether this translates into better golf is debatable.

There is a counter

argument that the golfer should be free to wear whatever he or she chooses and if that is a tee shirt emblazoned with the logo of a rock band then so what, the sport needs to be all encompassing!

Come on down.

In Spain we generally enjoy a very relaxed attitude in all aspects of our lifestyle and this is equally true on the golf course. In the high season from March through to the end of May we have a large influx of players from Northern Europe and they enjoy every minute of their golfing holiday with many of them playing 36 holes on every day of their holiday.

They love their game but it would appear that they have scant regard for the dictates of fashion.

However, they are well coached in the etiquette of the game, so they are always welcome and whatever they wish to wear is fine by me.

Slow play and etiquette in Golf – what happened?

ARE good manners no longer as aspect of the game?

When was the last time a group of golfers waved you through?

Chances are that it was some time ago and there is a real possibility that the answer is never.

Why is that?

If you are in a fourball that is constantly experiencing difficulties and in consequence the group following you are required to wait on every shot, why is there a reluctance to just step aside for a few minutes to allow them to move past? Especially when a gap is opening up in front of you. There appears to be some stigma attached to it. It is viewed as an admission of poor play.

When you do so the result is always a show of appreciation and a reduction in pressure.

These days the need for speed is a constant feature of the game of golf and we all appreciate that constant delays can have a detrimental affect on a players concentration.

Ready Golf must be partly to blame for

a reduction in good manners, as it is now an accepted maxim and we are encouraged to play ‘when ready’ rather than

wait for others to play their shots. It benefits the speed of play but is it at the cost of being courteous?

Clear the green speedily. When you have completed a hole the following group want you to replace the pin and get

out of the way as quickly as possible. This can be an excuse for leaving divots unattended and footprints in the green-side bunkers.

Can you please SHUT UP! How many times have you wanted to say that to a garrulous player?

There are some lucky golfers who have the ability to shut out any extraneous noises and others with a high sensitivity and an equally high intolerance of even the slightest disturbance.

I used to play with a chap who I swear could hear a rabbit passing wind in an adjoining field.

Whatever the player’s ability he or she deserves the consideration of others as they endeavour to execute their shot to the best of their ability.

Most regular players will exhibit the common courtesies and although this is often offset by the occasional gibe, it is always good humoured and accepted as part of the social game.

Most golfers would wish to ensure that the sport retains the standards of etiquette with which it has been long-associated.

If this adds a few minutes to a round it is probably a good investment and good manners need not mean slow play.

A new clubhouse was constructed a few years ago and it has transformed the facilities on offer at the club.

Streamlined, modern and ideal for both nongolfers and golfers alike, the clubhouse houses the

well-stocked pro-shop and caddy masters office where you will be greeted by friendly and helpful staff.

The restaurant on the top floor of the clubhouse has a wonderful terrace where you can enjoy freshly cooked food and a cold refreshment overlooking the course and practice facilities.

Designed by famed spanish course architect Pepe Gancedo, Las Ramblas weaves its way

between the large ravines and water-courses, lined with thick native vegetation creating a unique course to the area. From the elevated tee positions of the 1st, 3rd and 9th you are afforded spectacular views across the local landscape and out to the Mediterranean Sea. With such variation in hole design, mutliple elevation changes and narrow fairways, Las Ramblas will test the very best golfer.

THE GRIP

why it is important to take care of them I am amazed at the number of golfers I see with golf grips that are hard and degrading or being held together by a bit of electrical tape.

The grip is the only point of contact we have with the golf club and it is highly important that you look after them and have them changed on a regular basis.

Much like car tyres, as the grips wear out, so does the grip they offer to us the golfer.

Golf grips can be changed quickly and easily by trained golf professionals.

If you play once a month or so, then you don´t really need to go and spend a small fortune on replacing your worn out grips. A basic entry level grip will do the job just as well as the more expensive

branded grips.

Playing weekly or a couple of times a week, I would recommend investing in a good set of grips, which in the long run will be worth the extra investment.

It is also worth considering the type of grip you want.

A thicker grip can help those with arthritis, while some may prefer a thinner grip.

Being such a varied course, it is wise to purchase a course guide if you have never played it.

The first is a great starting hole, requiring a solid drive to find the narrow, uphil fairway. The third and fourth are two great par fives, that couldn´t be more contrasting in design.

A nerve-jangling tee shot on the 7th awaits as you must cross the ravine to find the very narrow

fairway on this 90º dogleg hole.

Challenging, the par 3 tenth is a great start to the back nine. Accuracy is paramount with out of bounds to the right and left.

The short 14th is a real target par three, played through the narrow avenue of tres and over the ditch that protects the front of the green.

Looking for a test? The 17th is one of the toughest par 4s in the región. The

hole is long and undulating, lined with trees. The approach requires an extra club or two due to the steep slope portecting the front left portion of the green.

Picturesque throughout, Las Ramblas is presented in superb condition throuhgout the year making it a joy to play.

For many this will be a “marmite” golf course, but it is a favourite of mine and I never tire of arriving here to play.

House prices: Boom, bust, and recovery cycle analysed www.spanishpropertyinsight.com A closer look at the official Spanish house price index published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) shows property values on the road to recovery in all regions, albeit at different speeds, but thankfully nowhere near the madness of the boom years.

The INE index is based on home sales inscribed in the Spanish Land Registry, and therefore more convincing than other indices based on valuations or asking prices. The INE also provide figures for house prices broken down by autonomous region and, though not much use for valuing individual properties, it does give us an idea of the direction of the market over time.

BOOM GETS BETTER

LATEST figures confirm that the Spanish property market is well on the way to recovery with prices back into positive territory, with Valencia City on the rise.

According to data from the Spanish Land Registrars’ Association prices increased by 9.39% in the first quarter of the year while the official Government index shows valuations up 2.7%.

In the month of March the index from the Association of Spanish Notaires increased by 0.4% and figures for April from valuations company Tinsa show growth of 5.4%.

The data from the registrars indicate that prices have risen 26% since they bottomed out at the end of 2014, but are still down 18% compared to the peak in 2007.

A breakdown of the figures from Tinsa reveal that in the larger cities prices increased by 8.7% in April year on year while prices in the Balearics and Canary islands were up by 5.6%. Average values on the Mediterranean coast were up by just 0.3%.

estate report from Lucas Fox in Valencia suggests that though property prices in Valencia City are currently less than half of those in Barcelona and Madrid, the market in Spain’s third city is picking up.

Sales transactions in the first four months of 2018 increased by 20% over the same period in 2017 and data from Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE) shows a similar trend with sales of homes in the first quarter of this year, up by 17% compared to the same period in 2017.

Overall prices in Valencia City ended 2017 up 13% year on year while the districts popular with foreign buyers, such as Eixample and El Pla de Real, saw price rises of 10% and 13% respectively.

A significant sign that the property recovery in Valencia is well underway is the growing numbers of cranes hovering over the city. New homes are now in continual demand with Valencia seeing a 5% rise in the number of turnkey home sales in 2017 compared to 2016.

Last week’s European tour event in Austria saw a new format in place, i.e. the clock; briefly every player was put on the clock for each shot or would receive a penalty of one shot. Maybe not surprisingly some groups actually managed 18 holes in 4 hours or less, so if they can do it why shouldn’t everyone. PEGO GOLF SOCIETY PAIRS BETTERBALL COMPETITION PLAYED AT OLIVA NOVA ON TUESDAY 12TH OF JUNE 2018 On a beautiful morning we assembled 48 members and guests to take part in a very enjoyable Pairs Better Ball Competition.

The course was in almost perfect condition, and today we had three guests, namely Martin Dunkley, Linda Hogg and Robin Hogg.

In the competition the winners were as follows:1st Place with 50 Points were Fiona Sankey and Steve Boyes .

2nd Place with 45 Points were Colin Foster and Bill Sykes 3rd Place with 45 Points, were Steve Patton and Peter Chapman.

Well played to all the winners, especially Fiona and Steve, with a great total

Nearest the pin at Hole No 5 with their second shot was Mick Connelly with 1.15 meters, and at Hole 16, the winner was Steve Boyes with 2.01 meters.

There were lots of two’s today, indeed 5, and they were by the following Steve Boyes, who had two of them, Bill Price, Paul Sankey and Steve Jones The “Balls in the Water” prize was guessed today by Jon Brun with 113 balls so many congrats Jon. Weekly man of the day goes to Steve Boyes with two two’s winning the “Nearest the Hole”
