Aftreeoord ontevrede Mike van Rooyen ’n KOOKPOT van ontevredenheid onder inwoners van die Welkom-aftreeoord borrel oor in hofstukke wat by die Vrystaatse hooggeregshof ingedien is. Hulle plaas die blaam vir hul ontevredenheid oor die oord op Beverley Shahia (64), bestuurder van die oord. Sy is ook die voorsitter, tesourier en sekretaresse van die oord se beheerraad en luidens die hofstukke maak sy net soos sy wil. Sy is ook ’n inwoner van die oord. Sy het geen skriftelike kontrak nie en daar is geen kontrole hoe sy haar werk doen nie. Inwoners en huurders vra dat die hof haar verbied om verder ’n direkteur van die beheerraad te wees en ook verklaar dat sy haar plig versuim het met die sake van die oord. Hulle vra dat sy hul regskoste moet betaal. Hulle vra ook dat die hof alle besluite wat die beheerliggaam op sy jaarvergadering op 16 April vanjaar geneem het as onregmatig en onwettig verklaar. Verder vra hulle dat die hof die aanstelling van die direkteure, Shahia, Karel Saaiman, Piet Botha, Schalk van der Merwe, Mike Henn, Annie Robinson en Louise Brady, op dié vergadering as onregmatig en onwettig verklaar en dat hulle dadelik hul poste moet ontruim. Die hof moet beveel dat Brendan Kretzmann, Casper Kruger, albei prokureurs, en Lutz Gambale, ’n ouditeur, as tussentydse trustees aangestel word om die sake van die beheerliggaam te behartig. Past. Eric Chandler sê in die hofaansoek die jaarvergadering verlede jaar is net deur Shahia, Colin Mostert, ’n prokureur, Karel Saaiman en hy bygewoon. In die vorige twee jaar het blykbaar ook net die direkteure dié vergaderings bygewoon. Hy was ongemaklik daaroor. Een van die groot klagtes van die eienaars van die huisies was juis die gebrek aan deursigtigheid en onvoldoende verteenwoordiging van hulle in die beheerliggaam. Op die jaarvergadering van 16 April was daar, anders as ander jare, sowat 80 belangstellendes. Chandler sê Shahia het gesê sy en Saaiman is weer beskikbaar en sy het net vyf ander benoemings ontvang, wat sy sonder om enige bespreking of insette te vra, as direkteure van die nuwe beheerraad verklaar het. Chandler sê Shahia het geen deursigtigheid geopenbaar nie en ook nie gesê hoekom hyself uitgelaat is, of hoeveel benoemings ontvang en wie hulle voorgestel en gesekondeer het nie. Shahia en die ander direkteure het tot 26 Junie om kennis te gee as hulle die aansoek wil teenstaan.

Uit ’n hofverklaring van Roland Heiriss, president van die klub, blyk dit dat die oorsaak van die skade is dat die munisipaliteit nie sy rioolsuiweringsaanleg en pompstasie by die pan behoorlik in stand hou nie. Brendan Kretzmann, die klub se prokureur, het verskeie briewe aan die munisipaliteit geskryf. Beloftes is gemaak, waarvan weinig gekom het, blyk uit die verklaring Die gholfklub vra nou die hof om die munisipaliteit te verplig om die nodige stappe te doen om te verseker dat die pompe behoorlik werk om die watervlak op ’n toelaatbare vlak te hou. Ook word gevra dat die munisipaliteit sy suiweringsaanleg behoorlik in stand hou en die

Burglar’s epic fails Alet van der Walt DUMB, Dumber and Dumbest planned a burglary and broke into the home of Nqheku Mokhobo last Friday. Mokhobo was at work when his security company called him because his home alarm had gone off. When he arrived at his home in Riebeeckstad, the police and security officers were already at the scene. They all went into the house but couldn’t find any intruders. Several bags packed with valuables from the home were discovered in the sitting room but there was no sign of anybody. A security guard climbed onto the ceiling but couldn’t find the burglars. The robbers had left the house but one of the observant policemen heard a cellphone ringing somewhere nearby. When they went back into the house, they looked above the ceiling again and the next moment a loud noise was heard and the thief crashed through the ceiling in a cloud of dust. Apparently the shock of falling through the ceiling loosened the burglar’s tongue and he spilled the beans on his two friends. He was arrested with his two accomplices who were waiting outside on the street corner. One of the men is paid by residents to act as a neighbourhood watch. He is a well-known face in the area but it now seems that he acted as an informer to burglars.
RIEBEECKSTAD resident Nqheku Mokhobo at the hole in the ceiling where a burglar fell through on Friday. The burglar with his two accomplices were arrested at the scene. Mokhobo only had praise for the police and the security company who, through swift ac tion, ensured that this hole in the ceiling and a broken window were the only damages he had suffered.

underprivileged patients at public hospitals like Pelonomi and Bongani hospitals where services had collapsed due to a lack of medication and equipment. The Mediclinic staff are professional in their attitude and approach, unlike staff at state hospitals. Batho Pele (People First) principle pamphlets are not displayed on all the walls. At Mediclinic, there is not just healing with medication, but the tender love by the nurses who make patients feel at home. I would like to thank everybody that supported me through this tough journey.

’n GEDENKDIENS vir die bekende ontslape Goudveldse predikant, skrywer en skilder, ds. Wim Fourie (60), word op Dinsdag 24 Junie om 11:00 in die NG kerk WelkomNoord gehou. Fourie is verlede Saterdag aan kanker oorlede. Sy vrou, dr. Lynette Fourie, direkteur van die Goudveldse Kollege vir Voortgesette Onderwys, sê haar man se toestand het verlede week aansienlik verswak. Ds. Wim, soos hy alombekend gestaan het, was 26 jaar lank leraar van die NG kerk Welkom-Noord, voordat hy weens gesondheidsredes uit die amp getree het. Dié talentvolle man het ’n passie vir skryf en fotografie gehad. Hy het ook in die verlede verskeie

Hy was onder meer voorsitter van die Maatskappy vir Europese Immigrasie (MEI), die Ringsjeugkommissie en die Sinodale Jeugkommissie. Hy en sy vrou is in 2006 getroud.

Kleintjie tree af Molly Green VAN dokters en pasiente se geite en kwale kan Aletta Dibe (70) nie veel vertel word nie. Sy het immers 42 jaar as verpleegkundige by talle dokters in Welkom gewerk. Dié vroutjie, wat alom as Kleintjie bekend staan, het nou besluit om af te tree. Sy het in 1973 by dr. Roelf Colyn begin werk. Daarna het sy by verskeie dokters as onder meer tolk gewerk. Sy was ook bedrewe met die spuitnaald en het bloed getrek en wonde versorg. Die afgelope 16 jaar was sy in diens van dr. Pierre Scott by die MediClinic Welkom. Dibe is baie betrokke by die Metodistekerk in Thabong. Twee van haar vier kinders is oorlede en sy is die ouma van twee kleinkinders.

Comrades Marathon 2014 On Thursday the 29 may 2014 the Beatrix team departed for their trip to Durban. The athletes were in high spirits. The first stop was at the Comrades Marathon Expo which was held at the ICC. This is where the athletes go for final registration to receive their race no. On Saturday we had a gala dinner for all the athletes. Sidney Mdluli wished them luck and our ER Manager Paseka Dhlamini wished them well and told them how proud he was that they were taking part in this gruelling marathon. I finally got to understand why it was referred to as the ultimate human race. This is when the human spirit prevails. We saw how kind and thoughtful everyone is even the supporters came out in full force with their trays of fruits, potato salad and all types of food. Nobody is alone, I had never seen so many people come together to offer love and moral support. Our very own Lebohang Mahloane came in 33 place he completed the race in 6 :O5:48 seconds. This was his second Comrade's Marathon. Lebohang is such a humble man even after this great achievement he was very calm. We are thrilled to have him on our team. Congratulations to all the athletes who took part and put Sibanyegold on the Map. To those who didn't complete let's try again next year. Sibanye is very proud of you...

Dié meisietjie se naam is op ’n waglys van ’n staatshospitaal. Haar ouers, Mirna (28) en Willem (25) Bakeberg van Welkom, het nie ’n siekefonds nie. ’n Trustfonds is gestig om geld in te samel, maar min mense het tot dusver geld inbetaal. Toetse is in Bloemfontein gedoen en sy het hartmedisyne ontvang wat sy tot September moet drink. Indien haar toestand nie verbeter nie, sal sy ’n hartoperasie móét ondergaan. Ansoné was van kort ná haar geboorte
altyd moeg. Sy was gedurig siek en het long-, oor- en keelprobleme ondervind. Sy drink gereeld antibiotika en kan nie na ’n kleuterskool gaan nie, want wanneer sy aan kieme blootgestel word, word sy siek. Dit was eers op 14 Februarie verlede jaar dat dokters uitgevind het dié meisietjie het ’n gat in haar hart. Haar ouma, Elmarie Bakeberg, sê hoe gouer die gat in haar hart reggemaak word, hoe beter. Elmarie, wat Ansoné versorg, sê Mirna se werkgewer het Ansoné sowat ’n jaar gelede na ’n private dokter gestuur. ’n Welkomse sakeman, Etienne Swanepoel, help met geld vir brandstof vir die ryery Bloemfontein toe en terug. Die Welkomse prokureur Edric du Preez hanteer die trustfonds. Hy lewer sy dienste gratis aan die Bakebergs. Mense wat die meisie wil help, kan Mirna by 082-806-2927 bel.

Sibanyegold spreads the love with their Winter CARE Project The Beatrix Ladies Team handed over their donations for the winter care campaign. Its first stop was at House of Hope. This house caters for abandoned and orphaned babies. They were presented with baby formula, nappies, baby cream, baby soap, and other essentials that were needed as well as blankets and vapour rub which are used on regular basis. The house has been battling with supplies, so it looked like the Sibanye Samaritans arrived in time. The next stop was House of Joy which is a house for older boys, most of them are in primary school. As soon as you walked through you could feel the love and warmth from talking to the house mother who cares for all these boys by being there everyday. The gifs were truly appreciated. Our third stop was at House of Love, which is situated in a duplex were the boys stay at the bottom while the girls stay on top. The boys here are smaller than the ones at House of Joy and the girls vary in age. The house mothers were excited and thrilled to see the supplies that the Sibanyegold team had delivered. Mrs Shirley van den Berg and our very own Miss Jane Hayward took the liberty of personalising each and every box with the names of the different houses. It showed the love and dedication that went into this Winter Campaign. Our forth stop was Sonskyn, I can't even begin to describe the dedication that this project has, Sonskyn feeds about 40 disadvantaged families a week, Alet does this on her own and with the help of verious good Samaritans like Sibanyegold. Every Wednesday when its hot she invites the elderly to come and enjoy the sun in her pretty garden. The other houses that received goodies were the Goldfields Society for the Blind and House of Eden the gifts were received with love and appreciation. Dit is die tweede jaar wat die kompetisie deur die ATKV aangebied word. Senior burgers kan inskryf in
een van twee kategorieë: Sing ’n liedjie met musiekinstrumentbegeleiding, of speel enige Afrikaanse liedjie met ’n musiekinstrument. Senior burgers kan hul kinders, kleinkinders of enige
ander instansie vra om hulle te help om hul liedjie op ’n CD of in MP3-formaat op te neem. Die opname moet dan per e-pos aangestuur word. Musikale seniors kan in een of albei die kategorieë inskryf. Omdat die kompetisie vir senior burgers is, sal geen jongeling ’n gryskop mag beoordeel nie en van die land se suksesvolste senior burgers gaan die liedjies beoordeel.

HELENE SMITH se beker loop oor. Nadat ’n berig oor haar projek in Vista verskyn het, het sy ’n bakkievol wol geskenk gekry waarmee onder meer slaapsokkies vir bejaardes en kinders gebrei kan word. Al wat kort, is flukse vroue wat kan help brei. Die wete dat talle bejaardes swaar kry en heelparty van ’n staatspensioen afhanklik is, het haar laat besluit om iets daadwerklik te doen. Sy en haar man, Pieter, het onder meer geskenkpakkies opgemaak wat lekkernye, toiletware en slaapsokkies bevat en aan inwoners van Huis Oranje, Nyalahuis en Huis Ougoud uitgedeel, asook by ’n kinderhuis in St. Helena. “Ons het soveel om voor dankbaar te wees en ek en my man wil graag iets aan die gemeenskap teruggee.” ’n Man van Virginia het haar gebel nadat hy die berig in Vista gesien het. Sy vrou is onlangs dood en daar was pakke en pakke wol wat hy aan Helene geskenk het. “Ek weet nie wie hy is nie. Ek kan nie genoeg dankie sê nie.” Nog iets wat sy graag sal wil skenk, is weggooidoeke. Mense wat skenkings wil doen of bereid is om te help brei, kan Helene by 057-3526338 bel. Voorraad kan ook by die Lighuis in Flamingopark afgelewer word. Die Smiths beplan om later ’n projek te begin om kousies vir babas en peuters te brei.

Long walk for charity THE ROTARY CLUB OF GOLDFIELDS SUNSET and the Goldfields Casino, are hosting the Madiba 67 Minute Walk for Charity on 18 July 2014. This walk will become an annual event on Welkom’s charity calendar. Registration will take place in the parking area on the southern side of the Goldfields Casino from 16:00. The walk will officially start at 17:30, but registration will only close at 18:15 to give those who work late time to register. People who want to participate in the walk must pay an entry fee of R20 per adult and R10 for children. Each entrant must donate one non-perishable food item. The 67 minute walk is in honour of Nelson Mandela, to raise funds and collect food for the less fortunate. All food collected will be distributed to needy families within the Goldfields community. Sendeling wat woeker en werk Molly Green VOORDAT Gideon Jacobs (55) tot bekering gekom het, het alkohol en sigarette sy lewe oorheers. Sy vrou en kinders het daaronder gely en hy was allesbehalwe gelukkig. Nou doen dié eens welvarende boer sendingwerk in Afrika, Europa en Amerika. “Ek het besef ek het ’n groot probleem. “Ek was ’n suksesvolle boer en het hard gewerk, maar het geen vrede of geluk gesmaak nie.” Op ’n dag het hy die stem van die Here gehoor en tot bekering gekom. Hy het ’n sendingstasie op die plaas Mooihoek naby Smithfield begin. Hy het sy werkers bearbei en nadat van hulle tot bekering gekom het, het hulle selfs goedere teruggebring wat hulle gesteel het. Gideon het die plaas verkoop en ’n sendingstasie op dié dorp in die Suid-Vrystaat begin. Sowat tien jaar later het die Here hom na Virginia gelei waar hy die Kwasizabantusendingstasie begin het. Die Harmony-goudmyn het ou hostelle en die kompleks van die juwelefabriek beskikbaar gestel. Die sendingstasie verskaf onder meer werk aan mense wat voorheen aan drank en dwelms verslaaf was, asook aan vroue wat eens op ’n tyd ’n lewe uit prostitusie gemaak het. Van die projekte waarmee gewoeker word, is ’n bakkery wat in fyngebak spesialiseer. Koekies word onder meer aan verskeie supermarkte voorsien. Daar is ook ’n skool met sewe onderwysers en sowat 50 leerlinge. Van die hostelle van die Harmony-goudmyn is in koshuise omskep. ’n Projek waarop Gideon baie trots is, is die hidroponika. Gars word in panne met water geplant en binne agt dae is daar kos vir die varke, volstruise en melkbokke. “Dit bring die koste van voer aansienlik af.” Akwaponika is die volgende projek. Babers en karp sal onder in die damme swem, terwyl

Race of the fastest THE Phakisa Freeway is hosting an exciting 2-Hour Endurance Race on Saturday. With the top drivers neck and neck at the top of the championship tables after three rounds, the fourth round at Phakisa will see some serious contending. The event promises to produce a lot of burning rubber, fumes and some breathtaking manoeuvres. The track, with its tricky layout, will be the battleground for some of the country’s best drivers and with the sanctioning of Motorsport South Africa (MSA), the Phakisa Freeway could be declared the permanent host of this endurance race.
The coming race forms part of the Inland Regional Race and motorsport. Enthusiasts will have the chance to see some other exciting races too. The Formula Monoposto (formed by Formula GTI, Formula Libra and Formula M), Big Boss Super Saloons, Alfa Romeo Trofea, Inex Legends, Midvaal Historics and Libra Productions Silver Cup will help to ensure that the day is a real spectacle for motorsport enthusiasts. Qualifying sessions will start early on Saturday with the 250 superkarts officially opening the day’s proceedings at 09:00. Tickets will cost R30 for adults while children younger than 12 enter for free.
