We really set the bar high fcr Los Angeles evenls in 2014 with this event! Another great moment I recall is when we traveled 10 a my flShrg corrm.riIy, Placencia. on the southern tip of Belize, Central America. We were hosted by Belize Ocean Club and spent a fabulous week shooting VIVA GLAM supermodel and former VICtoria's Secret model, Alina Puscau. We also had time to swim, catch the local sites, do yoga, and partake n some of the local delicacies such as watermelon liquados, coconut pancakes and honey chutney. Summer is for barbeques and sunbathing. And n July

One of the greatest things I love about VIVA GLAM is the wonderful people I get to meet. Last year, Leah Remini visited our studios for her Celebrity Issue cover shoot. With her sense of humor, we couldn't stop laughing. especially when her besties Cheryl Burke and Michelle Visage popped by. The party got even better

With 360 v'eNs of Mexico's jungles, ocean, and mountains, this was one of the mosl beautiful, unspoiled places we had the pleasure of visiting In 2014. Always have faith that you can live beyond your wildest dreams. Since here at VIVA GLAM we believe you can manifest the life of your dreams, going to Italy was a simple proof of this. To make a long story short, I dreamed of visiting the II San Pietro di Positano Hotel after featuring it in our winter 2013 issue. And sure enough, not even a year later. I found myself sitting and having lunch in this very spot. last year we w9f'e also SO thrilled to celebrate our VIVA GLAM team's births and marriages. Two of our editors, Avijah and Ramona, gave birth to beautiful babies just a couple of weeks apart. MeanÂĽJhile, our editor Sunset Blonde, who is also the owner of Cashmere Hair, is expecting her first child. And our photographer David got married to the love of his life. By the way, did you know our team helped catch one of the ten most wanted people on the FBI lisl? Yes, il is true, believe it or not. We don't want to say much yet, but stay tuned because one day we'll share the full story with you! I am so grateful for all of the wonderful things that happened to us last year. j am most grateful for our health. families and the sisterhood that VIVA GLAM promotes. I'm also thinking of the less fortunate around the world that might not have the same opportunities as we do here in America. And this might be you. If this is the case, I am sending you infinite power so you will understand that YOU are the universe. And YOU possess power to create the world that YOU want to live in. -

Ultrasonic Facelift Erases Lines

WITHOUT THE INCISIONS For years, FACELIFTS have been the gold standard for obtaining a younger, tighter face. However the bruising, swelling and downtime that is typical during the recovery of invasive facelift procedures is no longer required. hrough Ulthera, a non + invasive ultrasound procedure, the brow, neck and jowls are visibly lifted, tightened crd tcre:::l b arroe'PJlhfij ~cn:::e. Not only does the procedure provide results for almost everyone, it can be performed during a simple office procedure lasting about 20 minutes to one hour. Board Cert ified Plastic and Reconst ructive Surgeon Dr. Gregory Wiener explains that Ultherapy is a great alternative for patients who seek results, but are worried about the surgery and fiscal aspects that come with a facelift. ''This is the only FDA cleared procedure that can be used to lift and tighten skin in this manner,n says Dr. Wiener. UWith Ultherapy, patients will see results unfoid and increase aver a matter of months as their skin continues to improve. Collagen will increase and the skin's elasticity will improve, meaning that your skin will look visibly younger and healthier, not to mention tighter, at a third of the cost."

Creams or lotions containing a retinoid are best in the fght agalnst aging. Research sho\.ovs this vitamin A derivative really does undo wrinkles and discolorations from sun damage. Add a Retinoid to your skincare routine. Don 't forget to also use it on your neck and hands to keep them looking younger. You can purchase Retinoids called Retinol over the counter, and the higher it appears in the ingredients list, the better Oook for ones packaged in aluminum tubes with 0.1 percent or higher). Over the counter retinols are less potent that the doctor prescribed versions, which can take up to 12 weeks before seeing results. Keep in mind that any retinoid can be harsh on your skin, and cause irritation, dryness and peeling, so start using it slowly (start by using it every 3rd night, and only at night) until your skin adjusts. You can get a stronger retinoid cream prescribed by your doctor, such as Retin-A or Tazorac, which can give you results in as little as 4 weeks . • Don't""'" benzO\1 peroxide or alpha hydroxy acids which can deactivate retinoids. A smaD percentage of people rni;Jht not be _ to tolerate a retinoid, if this is you, c:Ioo't use one. RAISE YOUR HAND FOR REJUVENATION Don't let your hands give away your true age Expensive facial moisturizers can help to keep your SKIN SMOOTH, supple, and ageless, but your face isn't the only part of your body that gives away your true age. In fact, most people say that a WOMAN'S HANDS are one of the best ways to judge her age. Luckily, there is a way to turn back the clock. WRITIEN BY DR. PETER GELDNER, MO Dr. Peter Geldner, Chicago Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon says, ~Uke the rest of our bodies, our hands show signs of aging that may include brown spots, thinning skin, wrinkles , and large veins. However, a few minor noninvasive hand rejuvenation treatments can be done successfully with impressive results."

YOUR BOTOX TMEL NE? Make sure you time your Botox application correctly. hen is the right time to begin Botox? Most people think that the answer is

when a person is middle-aged and they beg in to notice obvious and unsightly wrinkles. However, the truth is that it is best to start Botox in your mid-tate 20's or early 30's, before lines have truly started to form and settle deep into the facB. Dr. Peter Geldner, Chicago

literally prevent wrinkles from ever forming and they

(such as excessive frowning). Then, as they age, they

will need less and less Botox, while still maintaining the same great results. ~ Dr. Geldner continues, "When you first begin Botox, you can start Vv'iIh a minimal application in just a few areas (such as your forehead) in order to !lep assess 'A'here your trooble SfXlts are. f:>s you continue aging, you might also want to consider areas such as your craw's feet. But , as long as you continue going on a regular basis, you will never see the deep wrinkles and tell-tale worry lines that so many people fear. THE CATWALK Runways aren't just all about fashion, the latest beauty trends are sometimes created backstage by the most talented stylists. They can make the simplest hairstyles look amazingly new by making small changes. These ideas can also easily be done by you at home, so get inspired by this season's fashion shows. The runways were full of the bobby pin accessorized hair look, try criss crossing the pins to make an X, or line them up to create sleek waves along your head. Hook them together at the base to make a V shape. Headbands, scarves, and bows are other hair accessories that can give you a whole new style.

THE RIGHT TOOL There are a plethora of styling tools and products out there. Trying different tools will give you different effects , and looks. Different sized curling irons will give you a variety of curls or waves. Based on the technique that you wrap your hair around the barrel, it can give you a different look. Try wrapping larger sections of hair, smaller sections, just the ends or even try holding the barrel at different angles and see how that turns out. You can get some really great results by mastering the right tools.

Being stumped for hairstyle ideas can happen to anyone. You may be one of those girls that always wants to change up her hair, or you may be one of those that just wash and go. Either way, coming up with how to do your hair, and avoiding a bad hair day, is a common

BE CAREFUL

WHAT YOU

WISH FOR! WOMEN have fought long and hard for equality, although women are winning, there are some unintended CONSEQUENCES! REGENIX is a company celebrating 25 years of research and development of products and treatments designed to save and enhance your hair. William Edwards, founder of Regenix, tells Viva Glam about the company history. "When Regenix first started, the demographics of our diEn1s \f.JOO far diffeent. Probiliy 00% were men. Today, 60% of those seeking our help are women. This incredible increase in the number of women experiencing hair loss has led us to develop several products that are geared specifically to women's needs. First of all, lets examine WHY this change has occurred. Women have entered the work force in ever increasing numbers. They are in executive positions and subject to the stress levels that go with the job. Appearance is a factor in climbing the corporate ladder. Therefore, women are using harsh chemical dyes, tints, rinses, hair sprays, gels and even Brazillian blowouts more than ever before." REGENIX deals with the problem of women's hair loss on several levels. REGENIX DAMAGE CONTROL GEL is a secret weapon in the arsenal of many top Hollywood hair stylists. If there is dryness, breakage and damage from processing, REGENIX DAMAGE CONTROL GEL can be used to help repair and smooth out the rough surface of the hair shafts. It can also be used as a detangler after shampooing or to calm the "frizzies" after blow drying. REGENIX FOLLICLE GUARD is another product that is favored by the top hair stylists. It was developed to seal the follicle entrances prior to any type of processing. This prevents any harsh chemicals from entering into

the hair follicles and damaging the delicate membrane that is responsible for healthy hair growth. REGENIX FIRST STAGE BIO-PHARMACEUTICAL TREATMENTS help any topical scalp problems such as dryness, oiliness, dandruff and itching. These can be fixed with this family of topical treatments usually in 30 days or less. Stress induced tightness in the scalp will loosen and blood circulation up into the scalp will improve. REGENIX NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS are recommended to provide a better nutritional level in the bloodstream that will be getting up into the scalp more readily, and be absorbed more readily when potential problems within the hair follicles are removed. REGENIX SECOND AND THIRD STAGE BIOPHARMACEUTICAL TREATMENTS. A hair microanalysis is necessary before using this family of topical treatments. It can be done in clinic at the Cedars-Sinai Medical office towers in Los Angeles, or by mail. Either way, the hair micro-analysis will identify the nature and severity of any problems below the surface of the scalp that are harmful to healthy hair. Estimates of time and treatment are given to the indMdual when the hair analysis is completed. Follow up hair analysis on a regular basis is utilized to monitor progress and adjust the treatment formulas as needed. Although REGENIX is an ongoing research and development company, the core philosophy has remained the same over the past 25 years: PREVENTION and ENHANCEMENT. To eliminate the problems that cause hair to thin and provide the best possible environment for the natural cycles of hair fall, hair replacement, and hair growth to take place in.

What is the value of an imagination? Most would say priceless! Does life imitate art or does art imitate life? How do you have your imagination come to life by creating something breathtaking for the world to see? Like a hand reaching out of the magazine, he grabs you so you have to take notice of his masterpiece. from ordinary women into elegant queens. I'd like to think that this early memory that I have of these women's sense of style has influenced me in creating my collections that exude

confdence, power, beauty and grace. How did you experience growing up while wanting to be a fashion designer? To be honest, it wasn't that difficult. As a boy, I would keep to myself and spend most of my time alone with my imagination, sketching away dresses. As I grew older, I became a little rebellious. In time, I grew out of that phase and started focusing on my career ard became a su::cessful designer. What in your childhood/adulthood inspired you and still inspires you to be so creative?

Timeless Fashion for Men CLASSIC MEN'S FASHION will never go out of style. In fact, simple pieces are staples that will last a lifetime. To add a bit of pizazz, you can also combine vintage items with the basics in your closet. Classic men's fashion doesn't mean that every piece has to be expensive. In fact, combining higher end designers with lesser-known brands is perfect for fashion that is classic with a TRENDY EDGE.

T

hroughout the dec:ades, women's fashion has changed greatly. From the hoop skirts of the 1880's to the mini-skirt of the

1960'5, women's fashion is constantly in motion. However, men's fashion has seen less of a change over the years.

For this reason, men rely on basics that can last a lifetime whereas a woman might change her wardrobe each season. Staples such as panls, blazers, vests, a simple black suit, sweaters, and a solid pair of loafers are important items to have in your wardrobe. So let's begin by recycling your closet. Take a look and see what you

have. What can you mix and match? Every man has items that haven't been used in forever. Take a look at your basics, as they form the foundation for your wardrobe. Then, research what is in fashion. You will be surprised that some items in your closet can be recycled and carried over to make you hip, stylish, and the life of any party! After the basics are covered, why not try a vintage scarf or bell to accessorize your outfrt? Or perhaps incorporate a bracelet, cufflinks, or a necklace? Recently, socks have become extremely fashionable. Throw on a pair to add color to your wardrobe. A good watch can also be important because even though most of us leH time by a cell phone these days, a timepiece is still one of the most valued status accessories for a man. In addition 10 jewelry, update your outfit with a designer bag rather than the standard brief case for work. By combining timeless men's classics with updated pieces, you will keep the classics from looking outdated or out of style. When purchasing your wardrobe, spend the most on the basics, and less on the items you use to update your wardrobe. So don't be afraid to spend a few hundred dollars on a suit or a jacket that will last several years because, 58

FASHION Originating in the 1920's from the designs of Coco Chanel and Jean Palau, the LBO as it's famously called today was meant to be affordable, versatile and long lasting. Since the 20's it has been a staple in women's closet to have a simple and elegant black dress that can be both dressed up or dressed down based on the occasion. When choosing a dress make sure to find one that is flattering on your body and one that can be easily accessorized. Simplicity is key in picking out this staple closet piece.

GET BACK TO THE BASICS FOR A CLASSIC Classic Black Turtle

sexy items a woman can wear, a black turtle neck. Also originating in the 20's this piece started as a menswear item but feminists quickly made the new trend into a unisex item. In the 50's the tight fitting turtle neck became a fashion staple and a way for women to show off their curves in a modest way. This is still a must-have piece for women who want to achieve that classic iconic look. Wear it with a pencil skirt or even a simp le pair of your favori te blue jeans. You can't go wrong having this item in your arsenal.

There are a few KEY PIECES that every woman's closet should be equipped with. The 'basics' as we like to cali them in the fashion industry are pieces that are classic and will never go out of style. Here at Viva Glam Magazine our look centers around classic beauty, so what better topic to talk about than what pieces you need in your closet to achieve this iconic beautiul and glamorous look?! WRITIEN BY RENE SWEENEY With this list of basics in your closet you can always count on having something easy, simple and classy to throw on for an effortlessly feminine look. Mix and match these pieces with other items that are on trend for the season and you have a chic look that's updated and elegant. Without further adieu here is the list of must - have classic basics!

There's nothing more all American than blue jeans. Invented by Levi Strauss and Jacob Oavis in the late 1800's jeans were originally created for miners and cowboys. By the mid century jeans had become more than just a work~ wear necessity and turned into a must~have fashion item. Iconic photos of Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe show us just how sought after the blue jeans were at that time. Marilyn wore all kinds from high - waisted to bell bottoms and even boyfriend jeans. Talk about ahead of the times! A classic well~fiWng pair of jeans is a wardrobe must~have. I suggest having a few different washes and fits to choose from to help you create your perfect k>ok.

Pencil

Another famous designer created this staple we still cherish today. Christian Dior created the pencil skirt in the 1940's when women were pining for new fashion choices after the Second Wand War. It doesn't get much more classy than this beautiful piece of clothing. Showing just enough of a women's figure to spark curiosity, while still leaving enough to the imagination , this skirt is a perfect choice for day or night, business or dressy attire. You can pair it Vv'ith pumps, knee-high boots or almost any strappy heel. My staple choice would be black or gray .... you can't go wrong with either of those colors!

The last item on my mUst-have list is definitely a staple basic if you want to achieve the classic glam look we love here at Viva Glam Magazine. We have to credit Jackie 0 for yet another item on our list because she is really the icon that made oversized sunglasses into the statement fashion accessory they are today. There is that old saying that says -Eyes are the window into the soul" and if that's true maybe that's why the woman who covers her eyes with a pair of big sunglasses is seen as more mysterious. wt'O krowsJ I just know that having at klast one par of trese k:onk: fashion accessories in your wardrobe arsenal is a mustl

Be prepared for a haymaker if you get close to Adriana Uma Of Candice Swanepoel, who love to get in the ring to keep their figures tight. Uma has been doing boxing for over 10 years and claims the fight-inspirecl workout helped her shed the pregnancy pounds in just a few months. Boxing and Muay Thai help to shed fat quickty because of the high intensity intervals used throughout the 3-5 minute rounds of punches and kicks. You also gain a knock-out upper body, using the abs and low back muscles to provide the power behind punches with explosive hip turns while your shoulders bear the brunt of muscle recruitment required for striking.Try this at home using 1-3 pound weights to get a quick upper body pounding . • Stand with feet hip distance, a soft bend in knees, and place the right leg a few inches behind the left leg. Take a weight in each hand, bending the elbows so that weights are in front of face. Extend the right ann in front of nose then pull it back quickly and extend the /eft ann in front of the nose then pUll It back quickly. Brace the torso and twist the core as you punch the arm then pull the torso back as you pull the punch back. Start to pick up the pace and continue punches for 1-3 minutes, repeat 5 sets of punches.

Want less high intensity and something that Uly Aldridge says feels more like a ~full body massage"? Try t he workouts used to sculpt longer looking limbs like ballet and Pilates. Victoria's Secret model Behatl Prinsloo does "Pllates when 1can oJl year around" and Uly Aldridge uses both Rlates and ballet to sculpt her body from head to toe. These forms of exercise use eccentric muscle conditioning where the muscle is lengthened as it contracts, sculpting elongated muscle fibers. These types of workouts also engage the smaller stability muscles, which help to tone your trouble spots.

6 REASONS Why You Are Not Losing Weight Are you trying to lose weight? Have you been spending HOURS AT THE GYM, and noUcing little to no results in your weight loss goals? Personal trainer and fitn ess expert, Julia Buckley, has the answers. 1. ALL YOU DO IS RUN Do you spend an hour on the treadmill and notice no noticeable weight loss? Studies have found that long. extended endurance training causes the body to hold onto fat Instead of shedding it

路When done regularly, slow endurance exercise will cause the body to store energy as fat to ensure it has plenty

2. YOU'RE EATING TOO MUCH AFTER EXERCISING BECAUSE YOU "DESERVE IT" Many people often reward themselves with a high路caloric meal after a good workout. There is nothing wrong with re路fueling your body, but people often overeat and consume more calories than they burnt off, making their weight loss efforts pOintless. When looking for a post~workout snack, Julia recommends lean protein and vegetables, and limiting grains and dairy.

of reserves to get through the miles' says Julia Buckley. She recommends switching your cardia to shorter, more

intense sessions, which are more beneficial in burning fat.

3. YOU'RE NOT LIFTING ANY WEIGHTS THINK LlmNG WILL MAKE YOU BULJ<Y? THINK AGAJN' MAKJNG MOOERATE TO HEAVY WEIGHT UmNG PART OF YOUR FITNESS ROUTINE CAN HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT IN A MORE EFFECTIVE MANNER THAN RUNN ING. CYCLING. OR AEROBIC FITNESS CLASSES. LIFTING WEIGHTS IS PROVEN TO OUICKEN THE RATE IN WHICH YOUR BODY BURNS CALORIES. MEANING THAT YOUR MUSCLES WILL BURN FAT. EVEN WHILE RESTING.

5. YOU GIVE INTO TEMPTATION TOO EASILY

4 . YOU ONLY WORK OUT 2-3 TIMES A WEEK This old adage is dead! Five to six days of training is much more beneficial to weight loss. The body responds better to more frequent, shorter bursts of exercise, particu~rly is weight loss is the goal. "Daily exercise will keep your body burning lots of fat all the time, not just a few days per week," says Julia.

People are always going to tempt you. They will prompt you to skip your workout to go out for lunch instead. to pass on thai salad and get the burger. There Is nothing wrong with treating yourself now and then, but if weighlloss is your goal, you have to become immune to the temptation of others. "You are an adult and no one can make you eat or drink anything you don't want to," Julia reminds us. "Your body is entirely your own. 路

6. YOU OONT HAVE A PLAN As the old saying goes: fail to plan, plan to fail. Many people do whatever they feel like doing that day, Of do the same exercise f.Nery single time they go to the gym, wtlich is detrimental to progress. Following the same routine day-in and day-out can also lead to boredom , and eventually, quitting. By following a diverse fitness plan, you are guaranteed to see more results, and stay motivated. BEAUTIFULLY BLESSED AT EVERY DECADE ... We are all BEAUTIFUL OUTSTANDING WOMEN at every age. But there are critical differences in each decade of our lives. Lets explore these decades and the challenges and rewards that follow. WRITTEN BY ANICIA BRAGG here is something to be said for every decade a girl experiences. In our twenties everyone says it's a crucial period in a girls life. I believe the twenties are meant to be fun, exciting, and for exploring who we are and what we believe in. Generally, this decade starts when we're still in college and changing the direction of our prospective careers. This is perfectly acceptable. We need to find out what we love and where our passions lie. We fall in and out of love like the ocean's tides. At 20 we can't wait for that big 21 st birthday so we can legally drink. However, hangovers are something none

of us can really afford. Many of us develop poor eating habits and lack proper nutrition. This behavior is commonly a result of stress and pressure from work and school. This can be challenging and problematic during this development decade. It is important to stay consistent with our beauty and exercise routines to maintain energy and a stunning physique. Remember, there is only one of you and it's critical to develop healthy habits and discipline early in life! This process demands a routine that includes eating healthy, working out, and maintaining an effective skin care regimen. These practices will become life long habits ...

so let's get started now! Travel, spontaneous adventures, and drifting from you're your immediate focus may seem tempting. We all feel the desire to travel the world and explore the unknown. During our 20's decade we are liberated with choices and opportunities! Don't take yourself too seriously during this era. Although responsibilities and mounting pressures loom, this is the time to find out who you really are and who you want to be. Some of you may be considering law school, medical school, or working for your family's business. There is plenty of time to weigh out these decisions. Life doesn't have to be such a big decision just yet. Even if your wallet is on the light side lately, don't worry! There is always time to make the big bucks, we all have epic breakthroughs and eventually we have most everything figured out by our thirties. Take risks, dream big, and success will soon follow. You deserve the freedom to explore and do what you want with your life ... We all want to go from students to starlets and steal the spotlight!! In your thirties, you are focused on that dream job, if you haven't already landed it. Or maybe you are searching for Mr. Right to settle down with or perhaps starting a family. Sadly, we begin to realize time really does fly by and we must make these years count. Life can be uncomfortable and awkward if you're still

If you're

camp to get your best butt ever. In your thirties it's even more important to maintain your exercise regimen. Women in their thirties, either stay hot or go to hell in a hand basket. "What happened to her." You don't want to be that girl! Your skin care is critical in your thirties. If you don't have a good skin care professional, seek the advice of a professional esthetician. Avoid magazine or internet advertisements that lure you into buying expensive products, that yield little results. You're worth it. Your skin in your thirties will maintain a youthful appearance into your future years. Keep that skin youthful and glowing with the right products for your skin type. Proper skin care early on will prevent unnecessary cosmetic procedures that women may feel are necessary and costly. Your forties can be your new twenties! Look at all the celebrities that are rocking those good looks and hard bodies (Jennifer Aniston, Halle Barry, Sofia Vergara, and Jennifer Lopez, to name a few). Some women are even waiting until their forties to begin a family. An elite group of celebrities fabulous and fertile gave birth after forty, Salma Hayek, Rachel Zoe, Halle Berry and Gwen Stefani. taking charge, going out there, and getting it. depending on your parents for financial support or still paying off those dreadful college loans. I'm here to tell you its OK, but you have to make a game plan if you're not already feeling settled and secure. If you think your twenties went fast, well buckle up because your thirties is sure to fly by even faster. It's time to think about securing your future and your looks. It's time to start saving. Begin by contributing 10% of your earnings into a saving account, CD, or IndMduai Retirement Account ORA). We all need emergency cash and it's simple to do if you contribute it immediately when you get your paycheck. You will be surprised how fast your money will grow if your greedy little hands aren't spending it. Leave that piggy bank alone Beauties! I promise you'll be glad you did! Instead of entertaining a shopping spree consider saving for your future. We all enjoy our daily Starbucks. Consider reducing your weekly indulgence by just $5.00. That equates to $260 per year. Lets face it, as beautiful as you may be, your skin and body is changing. It's time for some serious booty

of what you want and don't want in every aspect of your life. Now you're ready to live your life on your own terms and rules. Maybe you're divorced and starting over? Perhaps you are searching for that younger man to set your life on fire? You can be as reckless as you want because you've dismissed the naysayers and you don't care what anyone thinks. That's powerful, don't you think? If you're not in a comfy spot, you won't have a problem taking charge, going out there, and getting it. Stop making excuses ... it's now or never Honey! You better find that Mr. or Ms. Right, if you haven't found them already. So, you want to have a baby? No committed partner? Don't fret. Who says you can't do it alone? What do you need a man for? Get on board now and stop complaining. Define and reinvent yourself into the woman you've always dreamed you could become. Seriously Beauties! COMPASSON f20 S!!! Last year on November 15th "Compassion Rocks" event hosted by KEELY AND PIERCE BROSNAN AND JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL benefiting animal welfare legislation was a smashing success. WRITTEN BY STACEY BLANCHET ick Clark's beautiful Malibu estate was the perfect setting. It was a spectacular drive from the mountains to the ocean just in time to witness the sun setting in the Pacific ocean. When we arrived, we were greeted by a live band playing including musician, Dylan Brosnan. As we walked along the cobble stone path into the party, all the live auction items were on display along the wall. Everyone was there to support the cause and have a good healthy time. The party was catered by a Chef Tanya Petrovna, formally of plant based restaurant, Native Foods that was out of this world. Nobody was eating an animal at this party. The evening provided stimulating conversations and glimpses of worthwhile projects. Katie Cleary of Peace 4 Animals was the first to greet us as the co-host of the party. I had the pleasure to meet the band, several actors and actresses and the host of the event, Jane VelezMitchell who is an Author, Public Speaker and Television host. Ms Velez-Mitchell (Janeunchained.com) stated "Animal rights is the next social justice movement of the

21 st century". As a vegan for 18 years, she has devoted her life to causes on human rights, environmental issues and animal rights. One of the unique items to come from socialcompassioninlegislation.org is its partnership with the California DMV on the California Pet Lovers License plate. Proceeds from using this plate go directly to spay and neuter surgeries for pets in California. What a brilliant idea! As the evening wore on, the live auction and the crowd got crazy. Actors were auctioning themselves off for dates to the highest bidder and the shirts came off. Hey, it was for a good cause. They took one for the team! Over 105k was raised for Social Compassion in Legislation. This event did not disappoint on any level and saved the best for last. The remaining members of (INXS) J.D, Fortune who flew in from Canada, and Garry Beers played a set to a crowd that didn't want to go home. Welcome back to the 80's and this crowd loved it. The hosts were kind enough to provide food, drinks and dancing well past closing time. Now, that is how you do it in Hollywood! The VIVA GLAM Magazine team of Katarina Van Derham and Stacey Blanchet with Sherry Mattia-Welch of Glamerella Couture were honored to be a part of such a great event for such a worthy cause by our presence and participation.

INTERVIEW

Shine a light Interview of LILLY GHALICHI Over the past decade, a good argument can be MADE THAT ENTERTAINMENT has taken control over our moral compass. Movies and television (reality shows) have given us permission to explore what is the new normal. Entertainment in all its forms has made us think, act and feel in ways we NEVER THOUGHT IMAGINABLE 20 years ago. WRITTEN BY STACEY BLANCHET

SYD WILDER NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS WRITTEN BY ERMAN BARADI

Sometimes sweet, sometimes raunchy, but incessantly glamorous, actress-comedian Syd Wilder may very well be entertainment's biggest surprise. At first glance perhaps she's a socialite attending red carpet events and rubbing elbows with Hollywood's who's who, or rather a social media savvy actress on the rise with a zany sense of humor. One single chat with Syd, and you realize she's the embodiment of today's influential woman - fashion, beauty, sophistication, and drive all wrapped up in one. 156

VMAs, Emmys ...tell us about your experience and how just being there pushes you, whether it's meeting people or invigorating your passion. Those two events were totally different back to back experiences for me. Here's what I learned about the VMAs: If you 're stuck behind someone from Dance Moms, you're basically SOL. The media will go crazy for them. I was looking over my shoulder like, 'What the hell? Who is this woman? Then I saw the unhappy little dancer child next to her and I was like u~H, GOT IT!' LOL!~ I really enjoyed watching the production part of the show, I liked seeing the cameramen climbing ladders up to where they're posted and how they shoot each shot. I found out they sit there for 6 hours and wear diapers because they can't leave to go to the bathroom! The Emmy's was more so my wheelhouse. I obviously wasn't nominated because they don't recognize online creators yet but they were kind enough to put my picture on their web site. Maybe they liked my outfit. ;) I'll tell you one thing ... Voting on the local level is incredibly important, so • always amazes me how k>w the turnout is at midt8fTT1 elections. If you do not vote, you do not have the right to complain. Russell Brand says he does not vote, and that irritates me. It is easy to go on a soapbox and whine about corruption, but much harder (and less glamorous) to actually make change by participating in the democratic process, no maner how flawed it is. I registered voters once a week for 18 years and never take it for granted that I can go to the polls frooIy and safely. As a society, what do you believe Is the biggest issue we face today? And what do you believe we can do to help resolve It? lre biggest issue we face today Is 1ura1~. The growing number of people on the planet makes it Impossible to solve climate change and water issues, and exacerbates wars all over the wor1d. Virtually fN6fY environmental issue will be ameliorated if we brought the human population down to 2 billion. When I was born, there were 3 billion people on the planet, Now theta are aver 7 billion and we are going to reach 9 billion by 2050. That means the world population will have almost quadrupled in 100 years. Please check out my 8 minute TEDx Talk on Youtube to learn more. My love of being outdoors and my focus on health definitely makes me a more ardent environmentalist, but I love being active because it makes me feel good. My life is better because I move my txx:ty a lot. I hate siHingl Right now, I am on my treadmill desk as I speak to you. It is a treadmill under a standing desk, where I do most of my work instead of sitting in a chair. I find being in shape makes me happier and more effective as a person. Faith, what9V9l' that is for you. Faith in God. Faith in yourself. Faith that it will all work out.

How important in your opinion is being glamorous in Hollywood necessary? I don't know how ~ i mportant" it is if that's not what you're seen as. I think as women, in or out of the business, it's hard to keep up with what you see in tv, movies and magazines. I think you have to make yourself feel as good as you can feel because it brings you happiness. Not because you're trying to hold yourself to a standard that's not real. I mean nobody's perfect, except maybe Jennifer Lopez. And I can confirm that. What is your favorite part of photo shoots? And, over the years, what do you think are your best images? I guess my favorite part of photo shoots is what goes along with it; the hair, the makeup, the styling. The "pretend" of it all. I mean , I don't wake up like this. It takes a team and many hours. It's like playing dress up. There are a few pictures that I absolutely love. Rrst, there's one that me, my husband, and my daughter did for US W8fiIjy. Then there's a picture of me and Kevin James on the back lot of Sony Studios. Kevin drops his pants without me knowing and then they got me laughing at the moment I realized what he did. It perfectly captures our relationship on the show. And of course this amazing photo shoot with Katarina and Deja, because they make me feel so pretty.

What was your favorite look that your stylist brought you and how did tt make you feel? I love all the looks that my stylist brings me, but I think that I'm most comfortable in jeans or a sweat suit from PINK. How do you stay young, relevant, and beautiful in Hollywood? What is your secret? I'm not trying to stay young. ~ far as relevancy goes, I love what I do. I don't attempt to be relevant, I just try to keep my goal in mind, which always has been, to entertain people and make them laugh. As far as beautifuL .. SAFE ONLNE DATNG Just a few years ago, it might have been considered a bit risque if you were

DATING ONLINE. However, now it seems, that just about everyone who is single has an online profile. WRlmN BY CANDACE KITA 178

It is about as common as any other form of social networking such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. 'vVhile dating online can be fun and exciting, it is inportant to remember these quick and easy tips that will make

meeting the stranger of your dreams a safe ard rewarding experience.

Keep your personal information safe. If you are going to date online, make certain to use the contact email given to you by each individual website. Never post your phone number, address or personal email. Also, is your phone number, address or personal email available through other social networking sites? If so, I would caution you about this. It is better to only give this information to trusted friends and associates you know personally.

Be wary of posting your specific location. Certain social networking sites allow you to post exactly where you are at any given time. I would not use this feature. Someone Interested in you on a dating site can Google you. They will find your other social networking sites and can potentially see where you are at a given time. Unless you want a stranger to suddenly pop in to "surprise" you at your local Starbucks or gym, I'd hold off on using this feature.

People are not always who they say they are. Did anyone see the documentary, Catfish? It is not uncommon for people using dating websites to use

Keep aware of vmat is going on during this first meeting. Keep your senses keen and be aware of all that is going an arOlnd you. Respect yourself and hopefully you will get this back in return .

photos of others as themselves. This is an unfortunate fact. Also, it is not uncommon for people to post images of themselves from years ago that do not properly reflect who they are today. Because of this, I would

ask for a recent photo. Whatever their reason for the masquerade, they are

not being honest. Play detective and Google them to see what information you can find online. Remember, you are not meeting them through a trusted friend or relative. He or she is literally a stranger you have conjured from the ether. So, until they prove themselves,

treat them as such.

If someone appears to be too good to be true , be wary . I always say. listen to your 6th sense. You have it for a reason. Does someone seem too perfect? Maybe they are. If something seems strange, it probably is. Don't trust too quickly and look for underlying motives. Are they asking you for money or help? Do they seem to have a lot of problems or seem controlling? Look for ear1y signs of concern and don't turn a blind eye to them.

He's coming on too strong, Is someone you are corresponding with or perhaps have already met trying to control you? Is he texting, emailing or calling too much? Is he telling you what to do with your life? These are huge red flags that you can't ignore. Online stalking and stalking in general are serious, illegal offenses. Don't hesitate to contact the website and report this abuse.

If you decide to meet, meet in public. You pick the place, not him. Also, don't allow him to pick you up. Take your own transportation. Tell a trusted friend or relative where you are going and who you are meeting. This is very important. Take care of yourself. And if you are uncomfortable, feel free to cut the date short and leave. Yep, literally walk out of the venue. You are under no obligation to this stranger. If he makes you feel uncomfortable for any reason, leave.

Meet during the day. Remember, a first meeting w ith a stranger Is just coffee or lunch, that's it. They need to earn more time with you. Never meet very late or in an area you are not familiar with. You control the situation, not him. And, busy lady that you are, I'd say up front that you don't have much time and are expected somewhere directly afterwards. This way you have an "out" if you need it and also it lets him know someone is expecting you shortly.

And mostly importantly, have funl Just be careful while you're doing it! Don ' t post overtly sexual photos of yourself. Who are you trying to attract? For that matter, what type of relationship are you looking for? If the answer is you are looking for a nice guy, then don't post hoochie mama photos. I would assume posting these types of images will get you a lot of inquiries, but how many are truly legitimate and people YOU would be interested in dating? Remember, if you respect yourself, you will get this in return.

Watch the details in your photographs. Take the time to not ice the small details in your photographs. Is your house address visible? How about your street, cross street and license plate number? Name of the school your children attend? Make certain your images are not locale specific.

Stay sober during your meeting. I would like to think that this wouldn't have to be mentioned, but just in case you think it is a good idea to loose control in this type of situation, you are wrong.

THE NEW SEX BIBLE FOR WOMEN WRITTEN BY MOUSHUMI GHOSE, MFT

As a society we are constantly battling between old-school stereotypes and beliefs about sex and sexuality VS what we know intuitively to be true about sex and our bodies. With all the old wives tales about sex, masturbation, and exposing our skin or body parts as being taboo, it's sometimes very hard to weed through it all to find real honest-to-good sex education amongst the media hype. Even though there is a lot of excellent and straightforward information out there, there is still a lot of cultural shaming when it comes to sex and our bodies. As a sex therapist and advocate for posibve allitudes abcut sexuality, I am always looking for new avenues of information. I love to find new literature for people to read to get inspired to become more sexually liberated and empowered. Published by Quiver Books, Harwick's The New Sex Bible For Women is the anecdotal step-by-step guide for all women, lNho desire to become more proficient with their bodies, with thei r sexuality, with the ir intimate relationships and with their lives. And wait there is morel The book comes complete with full<XJklr pictures. These are not just diagrams, but actual photographs of women and men in various different SfroJ positions, which make this book come to lifs. The book itself covers the basics, the A to Z's of sex. THE IMANTA RESORT IN MEXICO. Imanta is a luxury resort, an undiscovered gem hidden amidst the lush tropical jungles of Punta de Mita.

fier 0lX short, two and a half hour flight from

Los AngEjes, we landed at II'e Plata VaIarta

cilDtcrd'M3ega:ttd bjffi:J1art:pe:a ~ The lmanta Resort is only 45 minutes from Puerta Vallarta and the drive to Punta de Mila was charming. We enjoyed watching the city's colorful inhabitants selling local goods, the pristine beaches, and the lush vegetation on our short trip. Half an hour later, we drove down an ancient cobble slone street to the entry of Imanta. It reminded us of Jurassic Park with its tall wooden gates that completely hid what was waiting behind. A guard ushered us in ... and we were in paradise. Imanta is far removed from the hustle and bustle of Puerta Vallarta. It is surrounded by jungle. And it has the secluded look and feel of an island on the mainland. It is a private lUxury enclave beyond words thai awaits you in a jungle paradise. /J.s you wind up the mountain towards lmanta, you start to see wildlife. In fact. there are humorous stop signs for land crabs, coatamundis, and horses. Flocks of exquisite black and yellow songbirds swooped over our caravan, this only further built our anticipation of what was to come. Imanta is built on the side of a mountain and the first thing we noticed were views to die for! VVhen we came to the main lobby, we felt fike Christopher Columbus discovering the New World. The anticipation of expIoI'ing this I1fN.I tropical paradIse was at our fingertips! Our first thought was, ~Pictures don't do it justice!ft And the second thing that came to mind was, ~How did they build Imanta on a mountainside?" We stood in wondennent and awe at the beauty that was laid before

us. In actuality, the owner, is a true visionary who started imagining Imanta over 20 years ago. He designed a jungle paradise that fits all of your needs by comfortably bringing the outdoors inside; the line ber.veen indoors and outdoors is seamless at this resort. He had a true vision of what he wanted. This open space design also incorporates high-end furnishings and creature comforts such as high thread 100% cotton sheets and hand made lUXUry soap for his guests. Every suite has a view that wilt take your breath away. It is important to note that lmanta is also environmentally friendly. In fact, all of the wood used to create Imanta was taken from the exact location. And all of the stone was also harvested on site. Local products were also used within the design of this sprawling hillside paradise.

After arriving to Imanta, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming staff bearing refreshing hibiscus juice and cool towels. What a wonderful surprise! We were then escorted to our suites. At Imanta, the suites are not numbered, rather there are 13 suites all with dtfferent names. Mine was the Aramana Suite which is 2500 square feet in size. High vaulted ceilings made each suite open and airy. Each has a private balcony with outdoor bathtub where you can take a midnight bath underneath the stars. Also, some suites have a private swimming poolt The oceanfront suites immediately

It also has a 65 ft . private infinity pool, state-of-the-art kitchen, stunning IMng room and dining room. The view of lmanta's private beach is stellar from this suite and one feels on top of the world as you can view tmanta's 250 acres all around you. Imanta is also a spiritual retreat where you can relax and unwind. The world class Imanta spa offers facials, massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, shiatsu, pedicures

Chef OIiviBf does not have a menu for Imanta. Rather, he believes it is important to create based on availability of fresh items daily. Chef Olivier Oeboise speaks on the

Cuisine of Imanta Resort HEAD CHEF OLIVIER DEBOISE is in charge of all meals presented by the Tukipa Restaurant at Imanta. And his wife and partner, Emmanuelle Chene, is in charge of the exquisite desserts.

H

is clients are worldly and know food and therefore expect only the best. We asked

him how he utilizes locally harvested food to create haute cuisine in the jungles of Mexico.

1. Chef Olivier, what inspired you to become a chef? Since I was a small child, I was ooncemed about eating well. Eating good things was important to me. My first contact with a professional kitchen and the chef who inspired me was Jorge Martinez, the owner and chef of Lola Restaurant in San Francisco, CA

2. Are there any other chefs that currently inspire you? Yes, my mentor Chef Eric Provost, executive chef of

the Royal Barriere in Deauville, Normandy. And Alain Passard and Joel Robuchon for they way they are able to transform a d ish by caring about the ingredients first and the recipe second.

3. Which cultures and countries inspire you and why? Well , of course my two countries, Mexico and France, as I am from both. They bring balance into my life .

4. What brought you to lmanta Resort in Punta de Mila, Mexico? It was a combination of two things that brought me to

[manta. Rrst, it is [manta itself. Just put yourself on the deck of the Tukipa Restaurant and watch the landscape and you will see exactly what I am talking about. This and the trust and freedom the owner of Imanta gave

to me in creating my menu. 5. What inspires you about [manta? It is all about the environment and atmosphere of lmanta. I would want every visitor of Imanta to experience the sunset. Without any explanations, you need to live it

to know what I am talking about. 6. What is your ultimate vision for the cuisine of Imanta? Actually, it is pretty simple. We search for the best

products, the closest possible, and we try to give it the best treatment possible. CELEBRITY ISSUE 2015

191

7. What is your favorite cocktail and/or wine at Imanta? My favorite cocktail is Michelada with tomato and clam juice and Icaro from EI Valle de Guadalupe. I have a strong feeling for the country wine of my wife's region, Anjou, Chinon, Coteaux de Lavon, Sancerre. 8. When cooking for an intimate group of friends, what is your favorite "go to" menu? Barbeque! 9. When you are dining solo, what is your favorite meal to make just for yourself at home? At home, I prefer a simple homemade pasta or homemade pizza. 10. I know that you do not work off a standard menu. And that you believe in creating meals based on what is locally and readily available for that day only. What is being harvested today at Imanta? And will it become the next menu special? We make the decision for what is on the menu day by day by giving consideration to each product separately. Then, at the same time, we start to imagine all the possible combinations to create our meals. 11. Describe a typical day at Imanta? Sorry, but I never have a typical day at Imanta! (Iol!) That is why I absolutely love this place! The only sure or typical thing is that my day will start at the fish market.

12. What is the future of cuisine in your opinion? Cuisine is based on community, community and community. Don't monopolize the knowledge. If you are a cook, let somebody else do the bread, the cheese, the vegetables and the meat. Of course, this means in your local area. It is the best way to have jobs for everybody and give more opportunity to share with other people. 13. Who was your favorite or notable guest to enjoy your creations at Imanta? Mr. Julio Iglesias and Ciara are two wonderful human beings. 14. What are your top 5 flavor profiles? They are acid, iodine, citrus, spicy and floral. 15. What is your favorite breakfast food? Green chilaquiles and pork carnitas tacos! 16. What does luxury mean to you? It is simple, lUXUry means experience, excellence ... expectations.

BONUS QUESTION: A goat walks into your kitchen wearing a bowtie. What does he say and why is he in your kitchen? He is giving me the score of my team and ready to give a hand. I'm a huge supporter of the Guadalajara Chivas Soccer Team (The Chivas Goats). This is also a really important thing in my life aside from food!

The next morning, we went to the resort's spa, situated on the banks of the spring¡fed Lake Lomme!, designed to pay tribute to Galistcga, kroM1 fcf healing mineral watE!fS. The spa features a natural mineral pool, outdoor relaxation lounge, whirlpool and steam room. We both enjoyed the 9O¡minute PacifIC Ultimate Ant-Aging FadaI, comprised of marine antioxidants , peptides and essential fatty acids from the Pacific Rim and PacifIC Ocean. The facial ended with a sculpting facial massage, which resulted in a visible lift. We were glowing just in time for wine tasting!

Calistoga Ranch is located near top wineries, including Duckhom, Twomey, Frank Family Vneyards, Silver Oak and Schrmlsberg. I was mpressed wiIh aI of the wineries, especially Schramsberg, which dates back to the late 1800's as a leading vintner for sparkling wines, and has been popular with the White House over the years. The Sauvignon Blanc from Twomey was my favorite and

I would hghly recommend staying at Calistoga Ranch when wine tasting, for the ultimate romantic getaway experience, or in my case, a fun weekend w~h a good friend.

Hector ard the Search for Happiness is a truly extraordinary film that consis:ently finds its way back to what is real

am true as Ire aJd"""" has tre opportunity to experience moments that evoke the love and compassion residing deep within all of us. Chance connections with various people and situations provide Hector with a more meaningful perspective on life than he has ever had. Throughout Hector's escapades, we see time and again that it is the pursuit of life that makes us happy, not the pursuit of happiness. Look around and you will see that we relentlessly pursue happiness without ever truly finding it. Of course , we do have the occasional happy moment here and there but, even when we attain these moments, they are short-lived at best. Disappointed, unfulfilled and still unhappy, we set off again in pursuit of happiness once more. It is a vicous cycle.

OUR MOST POPULAR PURSUITS INCLUDE: - Someone to love - Recognition - Rewarding work - Money - Stuff We have, in fact, been trained to acquire things as a way to be happy. Let's take a closer look at a few of those items on the list. In our pursuit for love, we spend many waking moments searching for, hoping for and acquiring someone who will love us. And often times we do, but in our current state of mind, that love comes w ith conditions and conditions turn a happy love into an unhappy 0'"18. &:01, we are forced into pursuing someone else to love us.

The pursuit of money and stuff, or material things, rarely pays us back for the time and effort we put into attaining them. We are happy for the moment, but the moment passes and unhappiness returns. It's as if we are grabbing at straws, trying this or that, just hoping we will hit the jackpot and find happiness, yet it eludes us. The mental, emotional, physical and financial energy we spend pursuing happiness is misguided. The formula for happiness we have been taught is clearly incorrect. It doesn't work for us. The phrase itself. the pursuit of happiness, is an oxymoron. Happiness cannot be pursued because happiness isn't something you attain happiness is a state of being. And you can't buy that. As a state of being, we need to look within to find happiness. It is there. It is as easy as shifting your perspective to what really makes your heart sing. When I ask people what makes them the happiest, people say family time, playing with my dog/cat, being with their children or grandchildren or spending time on a beloved hobby. What I don 't hear people saying is "desperately searching for love makes me happy ~ or "I'm happiest when I'm counting all of the shoes I have in my closet " . We can see that what we have been taught about happiness doesn't match how we truly feel in our heart. Instead, it's diving into life, doing the things we love that is the rea! formula for happiness. It is the pursuit of life that brings happiness. If there is a difficult part in alJ of this, it may be letting go of the old training that tells us to pursue and acquire things to make us happy. That means we have to break free from the crowd. Uke Hector, we have to do something different - maybe something considerably different than what we have done In the past and perhaps something radically different than what everyone else is doing. But, that's okay. It's time. We know this in our hearts. Now we have to match that with our thoughts.

'l'heAsslimpLion of Unhappiness The pursuit of happiness is fatally flawed because it automatically assumes we are unhappy to begin with. And we must be unhappy because if we were happy we wouldn't need to pursue ~.

having doesn't make us happy and neither does pursuing. Unhappiness comes from the mind, not from the heart. Yes, the heart can break or be sad from loss of a loved one perhaps, but this is not where the majority of our unhappiness comes from. Eckhart Tolle explains it beautifully when he says all unhappiness arises from some form of no. This means we have thoughts in our mind that tell us something about life, some idea we have about how we should or shouldn't be and how life is supposed to look to us. When life doesn't follow our pre-set guidelines, we are unhappy. Now, shift your focus from what your mind tells you about happiness to your heart's idea of happiness. In the heart, happiness comes from the expression and the expansion of love. Love includes kindness, understanding and compassion. The heart thrives on

peace and connecting with others. There is no unhappiness here. What we end up getting with love is, well, more love. The more we give, the more we get. We all want that and when we are focused on the heart, it happens automatically. There's a bonus, too. With love comes healing. Healing is not just getting over a cold. It is creating an absence of the symptoms of illness and includes being balanced emotionally, being adaptable, being physically fit and being nutritionally balanced. You may have noticed that healing is more about being than doing. And healing means we enjoy our connections and interactions with others, at least most of the time. Healing applies to everything about you and around you. All of this is in response to shifting our focus to love, a shift to living rather than pursuing. This is the shift that brings happiness to us.

5 Ways to Pursue Life through Love True happiness comes from living. Living comes from being. Being comes from loving. Pursue what you love and this will give you life rather than take it from you. Pursue life and happiness automatically accompanies it. There are many ways to pursue life - or simply to expand and express love in your life. You can make a list of the things you love to do. Then, pick any of them and make sure to allow time for what you love every day, even if it is just 15 minutes a day. This changes the energy of your day and your perspective. You can also look at the by-products of love - kindness, compassion, connection, understanding, peace and, of course, happiness - and allow time for one or all of these each day in your life. Below are some ideas on how to incorporate love into your day through being rather than doing.

1. Be Kind Kindness is about caring. We are being kind when we care about and care for others. This can be a kind word of encouragement to a family member or co - worker, an offering of assistance to an elderly or ill neighbor or something as simple as saying "Please" and "Thank you" more often than we do now. But, we can also apply kindness to ourselves. We can give ourselves a break, not judging ourselves so harshly and speak gently and lovingly on a regular basis. It takes practice to break free from the mold, but we can do it.

2. Be Compassionate There are so many opportunities to be compassionate each day - not only to others, but to you, too. When we look at someone, see them not as you are, see them as they are. Know that everyone you encounter each day struggles through life in many areas just like you. The largest of those areas is a mind that condemns that person for not being good enough in some way. We all have that in common so lets show each other compassion. A life lived through a mind that tells says you are not good enough is hellish indeed. Compassion brings sunshine to an otherwise cloudy day.

3. Connect Connecting with others is highly beneficial to humans.

Not only is it natural for us to be social with others, it is healthy for us. Hugs are pure health as science shows that the human touch stimulates receptors under the skin, allows the heart to slow to a healthier pace, allows food in the gastrointestinal tract to absorb more efficiently and releases serotonin into the bloodstream. Serotonin is important for the brain and the digestive system. Make contact with people as much as you can and offer hugs twice as much as you do now.

4. Be Understanding Understanding others is a key to understanding ourselves. When we understand ourselves we are able to make much needed changes that provide us the opportunity to be free from old, limiting beliefs about ourselves and the world. These changes are more aligned with the heart and with love which, of course, brings healing. Instead of reacting to something someone says, look for ways to understand what was said, even if you don't agree with it. This will bring healing to all parties involved.

5. Peace Finding peace within you can be a challenge with our busy lives of pursuing and having. This is mainly because we haven't been taught how to be peaceful, but also because being peaceful isn't what most people are doing. But, peace connects us to our on - board health system. It also clears the mind and allows us to see what is real - love. To help you experience this, visualize yourself sitting in the eye of a hurricane. The walls are dark and the wind is blowing with a vengeance. You can see lightning flashes and hear thunder booming all around you. But, there you sit in the center where it is sunny, calm and, above all, peaceful. In this place where it is raining all around you, the sun still shines brightly on your face. This is the space where rainbows are created. Today, make a pact to yourself that you will spend less time acquiring things and more time experiencing life. It may take a drastic life change for you, like it did for Hector but this is most likely what is needed. In the end, you will know what it means to live through the power of love. This is the pursuit of life where happiness awaits.

relieve loneliness, sadness and depression. With hugs, we are engaged In giving and receiving which creates an energetic balance within that ignites heaJing . Hugs help us relate to others better, break down mental barriers we set up about them and release chemicals In the body that heal us. These connections are crucial to our health and happiness.

Gel Hea llhy lit Happy We can Improve our quality of life by being open to getting in contact with each on a more regular basis each day and hugs are a great way to do that. T~le benefits of hugs are evident as science shows us they heal illness, stress, anxiety, loneliness and depression. This is because hugs release chemicals In the body, such as serotonin, dopamine and oxytocin. which are healing and make us feel good. Hugs also: 1 . Reduce the risk of heart disease because high blood pressure is one of the main risk factors in heart disease. Studies show that hugs lower blood pressure , which for people with weak hearts or high blood pressure can be one of the greatest benefits of hugs. 2. Makes you feel calmer, relieving stress. Hugs help us connect with our parasympathetic nervous system which is our relaxation system. Relaxation calms ttle nervous system, which automatically allows healing to occur. 3. Strengthen your immune system since hugs set up an emotional charge that stimulates the thymus gland . The It1ymus gWd regootes and baIarces the body's production of white blood cells, helping you stay healttlY, thereby reducing the chance of disease taking hold.

The benefits of hugs don't stop there . According to Dolores Krieger, R.N. , Ph.D., professor of nursing at New York. University and expert in the field of touch therapy, when one person hugs or touches another, it stimulates the level of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to tissues. Tissues that receive oxygen are infused with fresh energy that is used to rejuvenate the body. And there is other research in the field of hugging that has shown hugs reduce the chance of senility in people over the age of seventy, increases problem solving ability and improves overall physical well-being. Some studies have even shoMl trnt tLggtlg re<iJces SO'r<l s,mptars of AIzhJirrer's. Let's do ourselves a favor and let go of preconceived notions we have created in our minds that keep us from getting close to others. Let's dedicate more of our time to connecting with each other through hugs. Take down the walls that keep you from approaching people with open arms ~hat doesn 't mean ignore your intuition about your personal safety). Let go of old feuds with family members, especially during this time of year. Reconnect with as many people as you can thmugh a saUd, generous hug that provides healing for both. Don't limit your hugs just to other people. Hug pets and trees as much as you can . It has long been known that pets are great for healing through touching and hugging. We can do the same for each other and we can even hug ourselves. When we share love through hugs we connect with love. All connections with love provide us with balance. Balance heals and love is the most powerful force in the universe - sounds like a great combination . So go out there and hug as much as you can each day. Let's connect with each other and heal.
