The book has collected a wide variety of restaurants and bars whose commonalities may not be easily grasped, but such an uncontrollable subtlety is exactly what makes each case unique and attractive.

Sales points: 1. Plans and high-res images with wider angle of view illustrate how to design an appropriate layout. Numerous on-spot photos thoroughly show the real materials, lighting and atmosphere. Designers and architects personally explain how to understand the restaurants and bars’ concepts, and highlight the brand in interior design. 2. All cases are from at least 40 companies which include several owners of Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, such as YOD Design Lab, DAVIS INK and Doyle Collection. 3. This book collects more than 50 inspiring examples, saving designers and operators from numerous projects with uneven quality. Moreover, it also shows how a great interior design enhances the dining experience, attracts and maintains customers. It is a good reference for novices and professionals.

Editor’s commendation: 1. This book is divided into two categories: restaurant and bar. A wide variety of cases, from Chinese restaurant, Japanese restaurant, western restaurant to bar and café, will meet designers’ different needs. 2. The combination of on-spot photos, plans and introductions thoroughly shows the designing process and the way to solve problems, such as the localization of exotic restaurants or bars without losing their essence.

Cafe “Dali,” which got its name from the world’s famous surrealist painter, Salvador Dali, provides interior design associated with the artist’s unique expressions for shapes, symbols, colors, and philosophy. The café’s includes one of the key features of surrealism- the ability to combine known objects within an extraordinary setting. In the café, contrast can be found in rational solutions with an unusual presentation. The interior design lives outside its usual form and environment. Sheets of paper were used for wall decorations, which create illusion shape for the space. Paper fold on the walls in lounge area makes the cafe more circular contour we well as creates a surreal feeling. On the central wall, the interior designer has created an exposition of Dali’s symbolic elements. Hidden under the paper, they blend together with walls, highlighting the silhouette of the objects. Wall with the mirrors creates reflections and gives a moving dynamic to the space. The central object- the bar, resonates the shape of Dali’s characteristics where curved lines and shapes float with reference to a fine classic.

Cafe DALI Functional Plan

When someone asked Dali: “What is your favorite color?” He answered immediately- blue and gold tones. These colors were adapted as the base for tonal solution, which were supplemented with sand white and warm tones. Cafe “Dali” is located in the Spikeri creative quarter, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In the 18th century Spikeri was a warehouse district, but currently, it has become a creative arts center with a wide range of cultural ensembles - the Concert Hall, a contemporary art exhibition hall, restaurants, and etc. Spīķeru industrial aesthetics serve as an inspiration for future developments.

The latest branch of Laem Charoen Seafood Restaurant Bangkok occupies two-hundred and thirty-four square meters on the ground floor, next to the entry, of the Sense Community Mall on Pinklao Road. This family-style eatery welcomes the seafood lovers with an open-plan layout and a cheerful color scheme. The turquoise blue handmade ceramic tiles highlight the grid pattern on the floor whereas the matte silvery grey PU walls are padded in vertical lines. Particular attention is placed upon the ceiling of four and a half meters high. Onion arranges the OBS Boards in a radius pattern based on the parameter of the existing glass facade. Three continuous curves are cut out from each vertical board. They give the visual effect of paralleled circumferences, running from the building envelop to the direction of service station inside the restaurant. The edges of these OBS Boards are painted in florescent orange color matching with the orange local ceramic tiles on the floor and the color of the chairs. Onion’s color scheme is conspicuous because of its background materials, namely the white marble and the black ceramic tiles. Laem Charoen Seafood @ The Sense was opened in August 2014. The total area is 234 sq.m. This includes 20 sq.m. service station, 46 sq.m. kitchen and 168 sq.m. dining area of 120 seats.
