Site

A building site is situat ed in the village Konop nitsa, one of the sponta neous growing settlements near Lviv. The dis tance from the site to Lviv is 13,5 km and 60 km to the Polish-Ukrainian border. Building site area is 530 sqm. The main problems of this settlement are lack of the developed infrastructure, lack of the road and pedestrian network, lack of the engineering systems and lack of the developed masterplan for this territory despite prestigious placement.

Design decisions and constructive scheme

Initial data mentioned above leads to current design decision. It was difficult to place all the required facilities at the site, such as a plumbing system and a n effluent cleaning sys tem. To increase a yar d territory and to creat e parking places I have decided to lift the house up with columns. Four columns support the entire house. Spatial skeleton is applied to increase reliability of the house.

Layout

A facility set is design ed for two adults peop le and two children. D espite the limited site area the facility set is bigger than a standard one. There is a wall space enclose d with glass under the main house volume. There is also a suspe nded fireplace “Focus Gyro” in the ce ntre of this space. Gla ssed walls of this spac e can be easily moved apart and this inner s pace joins a surrounding nature. Th ere are a hall guest b edroom where second child can live, a kitch en, a dining room, a b athroom and a living room on the first floor. The living room has double floor heigh t area a two storey vo lume and a trapeze sh aped staircase leads to a studio. Stairs have an appropriate width to use them while watching movies in a home cinema. There is a library studio on the second floor. There are a master’s bedroom, a children’s room next to it, bathroom, terrace.

Elevation composition

Elevation composition is dictated by panoram ic views and a building placement according to the solar orientation . Therefore the southern elevation of the house at the living room level is made as a solid window with a fascinating view to the apple garden. The western elevation is oriented to the neighboring houses but the view from the windows is not spoilted by surrounding spontaneous development because the house is rised up from the land. The northern elevation has no windows because of its closeness to the neighbor’s fence except for a bedroom triangu lar window. Such a fan ciful window shape allo ws to insolate the mas ter’s bedroom oriented to the North. There are bedroom windows and a terrace on the eastern elevation and an entrance on the lower level. This elevation is more intimate than the others.

Drain system supplies garden plants with nutritious substances.
