JULY/AUGUST 2016
President’s Report Another Management year is nearly done and dusted. I am very proud as we all should be of each and every Volunteer on Management and the Volunteers who have helped us achieve some remarkable results of the last 12 months even with some significant challenges Management have faced this year. Some of these acheivments are as follows. We have welcomed and look forward to seeing them around the base: 17 new Active Crew Members 14 new Full Members 7 new Support Crew 86 new Waterside Assist Members We had over 1500 people attended our first Pop Up Food Truck Event so keep an eye out for more of these. We are liked by over 1700 people due to a very effective Social Media presence (Remember to give us a `Like’ at VMR Brisbane to keep up to date with what's going on). We are well advanced for this year’s Emergency and Community Services Expo (If you can help on the day please let us know). We have been successful in building rapport with other Squadrons and Organisations both near and far. We have had the Entry Way to the Clubhouse spruced up by installing a Path, Garden Beds and new wall at the top of the stairs. We are having the Hall refurbished as well as some other modifications to the Hall and at the same time given some people an opportunity to find new skills to help them find employment. We have updated our Security at the Base and a new pontoon out of necessity of an ageing system but with careful consideration to the future requirements of VMR Brisbane and its Members.
We have been successful with some Grant Applications this year with a big thanks to our new Grants Writer. These Grants have allowed us to approve projects like the refurbishment of the Western Wall of the Club house and the much talked about roof over the verandah. And while we
It is amazing what people with a common vision and direction can achieve especially when personal agendas are put to one side for the benefit of the Association as they should be. Because of this we have built an amazing Association and very strong brand both within our community and abroad that is the envy of many. I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the hard and sometimes challenging work done by previous Management which laid the ground work to allow us to achieve the above and much more into the future. “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon and the truth” I personally thank all the Members for allowing me the opportunity to represent such an incredible group of diverse people who share the vision of making VMR Brisbane the place to Volunteer your time, the place to spend some quality time with friends and being a very self-sufficient Association. I firmly believe we have an Association that we should all be very proud of that has the ability to be here for another 100 years and beyond. If you have enjoyed your time with VMR Brisbane over the last 12 months, think we are achieving the right things to move the Association forward and would like to see your Association continue to grow and evolve I encourage you to either attend the AGM to have your vote counted or if you can’t make it to the AGM please ensure you appoint a Proxy and clearly state your voting preference. If you would like to be more involved I would encourage you to make yourself known and would love to see you nominate either as part of the Support Team or Management. We now have the Hall hired on a more regular basis which is another source of income for the Association which has allowed us to keep Membership Fees constant and if this continues may also be able to look at reducing them.
have achieved all these things the Association is still in a very strong and stable condition both for now and well into the future if this type of governance continues with future Management Teams.

30th—Energex Sandgate 1 and Sandgate Rescue 2 assisted a broken down vessels in the shallow water off the coast of Kooringal. The vessel with 2 POB was towed back to our base in Cabbage Tree Creek.
SEARCH AND RESCUE
31st—On Sunday morning, Energex Sandgate 1 was requested to assist a broken down vessel with engine failure approx 2nm off Tangalooma.
Energex Sandgate 1 searched on the afternoon and early evening on the 10th and returned and searched further south early the next morning.
While enroute, the crew was tasked to an EPIRB activation around the Cowan area. After a search was conducted by Energex Sandgate 1, vessels from VMR Bribie Island and Redcliffe Coast Guard, a helicopter sweep was conducted. As the target could not be found, the RCC in Canberra called off the search. Our crew asked all boats in the area to check their EPIRB for accidental activation. It was then back to the original tow job for the November Crew, picking up the broken down vessel off the coast of Tangalooma and towing the vessel with 6 POB back to the Pinkenba Boat Ramp.
The SAR activity consisted of 10 marine rescue vessels from VMR, Coast Guard, Fisheries and Water Police along with arial assets from AMSA, Surf Lifesaving Qld and Westpac’s Lifesaver 45.
In the afternoon, Energex Sandgate 1 was requested to assist a hovercraft which was beached at Nudgee Floodway. Energex Sandgate 1 was unable to assist due to the low tide and a local fisherman assisted this person. After Energex Sandgate 1 returned to base, the crew was requested to assist a Jet Ski which had run out of fuel on the Brisbane River. By the time Energex Sandgate 1 had arrived, the Jet Ski was being refuelled by the owners friend.
On the 10th of August, the Brisbane Water Police activated VMR Brisbane to help search for a missing diver at Henderson Rock when he failed to surface.
We always hope for a positive outcome but unfortunately, the Water Police found the diver deceased on the 11th of August and the assets searching were stood down. VMR Brisbane sends our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased man.

THANK YOU TO ENVIROSITE DEMOLITION VMR Brisbane would like to thank Myron Lichtnauer from Enviro Site Demolition who has been generous to our rescue organisation over the past year. Myron is known at our club as "The Magician" due to donated or loaned items magically appearing at our base.
RESTRICTED ACCESS TO BOAT RAMP NOTICE Please be advised that on Sunday, 11th September 2016, there will be very limited access from 7:00am until 2:30pm to the Hardstand and Boat Ramp due to our Emergency & Communities Services Expo taking place. Crew who are on duty are requested to park their vehicles in the Hardstand area.
Envirosite supplied VMR Brisbane with timber from the old Shorncliffe Pier to enable us to construct the memorial wall which now features our historic Shorncliffe murals. Myron has also kindly donated office equipment and has supplied, delivered and removed a skip for us to for our old pontoon which was then recycled. Envirosite has been very generous to VMR Brisbane and everything they have done has been very much appreciated.

JULY/AUGUST 2016
PROMOTIONAL WORK FOR VMR BRISBANE It’s been hectic leading up to the Expo and with some help from our local members and local newspapers, you may have seen a good presence in the Bayside Star, Northside Chronicle and Sandgate Guide. Below is the article from the Northside Chornicle in the Wednesday, 31st August issue on pages 1, 7 and 11.
PARK FOOD TRUCKS On the 6th August, over 1500 transcended to our base to check out the Park Food Trucks which was a big hit. This event brought a lot of attention to VMR Brisbane from the locals (and not so locals) who are Park Food Trucks groupies and who follow these trucks around Brisbane. We had the Jaffle Shmafflel, The Bone Lorry, Little Back, The Dapper and Chic and Ruby the Little Red Ice Cream Van all serving up the award winning dishes. Join up on Facebook to keep up to date when the Park Food Trucks will be back down at our base!
EINBUNPIN FESTIVAL
REDCLIFFE KITE FESTIVAL Some of our members took to the water and land to check out this years Redcliffe Kite Festival on the 27th and 28th of August. Those attending were swept away in the fun, colour and excitement of the kites and the Yak 52 and Harvard aerobatic plane which performed twice daily. The Kite Fest is part of the Recliffe Festival which started on the 27th August and finishes on the 11th of September. The Kite Fest next year should be a must for your amily day calendar next year!
Thank you to our volunteers who spent time manning the VMR Brisbane tent at the Einbunpin Festival. We managed to promote our Full, Active and Waterside Memberships and teach those who attended about boating safety as well as the fantastic publicity this brought to our rescue organisation!
