Psalms 61 - NKJV BY SHARON E. LOCKLEAR, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF “Hear my cry, O GOD: Attend to my prayer, From the end of the earth I will cry to you, When my heart is overwhelmed: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For have been a shelter for me, A stronger tower from my enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever:” Psalms 61 NKJV What an appropriate prayer for this day and this time. Feelings of overwhelm, hopelessness and helplessness are felt and shared by many. Many expect the government to send another check and fix what ails us. Government intervention is not without a price and rarely provides a solution. Christians are crying out and are burdened with the cares of the world. We are to live in the world, and have we forgotten that we are not to be of the world? We have a different standard of living. Our Father is the ultimate source and yet we are looking for help/assistance in all the wrong places. GOD will provide our wants, needs and desires. ASK and we will receive if the asking is not amiss. GOD hears us, really hears us, and knows what we desire. GOD is aware of our feelings and wants us to unburden those feelings in prayer. We are resistant, we often expect some solution from man, when GOD is the ultimate fixer and a strong tower from the enemy. In GOD everything is available. We must be willing to allow GOD to fix our overwhelmed hearts and minds. Are we forgetting that GOD operates on a divine time schedule? Are we forgetting, just not

praying or only praying when we have specific expectations that we desire GOD to expeditiously handle? GOD desires a relationship with each of his children. When in a relationship, we share everything: joy, pain, burden, overwhelm, opportunities, challenges, wants, needs and desires. It is time for you and me (us Christians) to understand our relationship with Our Father. Commit to daily prayer and meditation. Let’s become obedient children and allow Father to remove the helplessness, hopelessness and overwhelm that we are experiencing. Sharon Locklear Editor-In-Chief

As CEO and founder of The Next Dimension Marketing & Management, Will Odom, first developed an interest in the entertainment and Art industry while attending Dillard University which ignited his passion and fueled an incredible career as a Project Manager, Consultant, Entrepreneur Motivation Speaker and Stage Production for various events in different markets such as, Texas, Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans, and Mississippi. His interest and experience grew because of the lack of integrity and transparency that he felt was missing in his city. “In my earlier years working as a recording artist manager in the Rap & R&B world, I recognized the industry was focused on providing an exceptional experience to fans but missing critical details in the execution phase when planning community events. ” After 15 years of managing artists he realized God was leading him into another dimension of stage production and creating events for non-profit organizations. In 2005, Mr. Odom accepted the responsibility of stage managing, “Phase II Singles Talk Show at the Potter House Church’’, with the sole intention of proving why the project execution plan ensures the success of any project. What happens in the life of the believer when life throws curve balls? What happens when it seems as if everything that could go wrong does go wrong? What is the reaction of a trusting child of God when disillusionment, disappointment and dismay become your portion? Where do you turn, who do you call on? In Psalm 61, King David is in much distress. This Psalm is a lament of one who feels as if he is far from the presence of God. Be assured of this, whenever we feel that we are far away from the presence of the Father, it is not him that moved. This is a good time to reflect, and ask the Lord to bring to mind any and all things that would cause separation from Him. The Bible says in the Isaiah 59:2, But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. Unconfessed sin and continued sin will keep us separated from the presence of the Lord. And we reply on the benefits that His presence brings us. King David realized that something was lacking. Psalm 61:1 reads this way; Hear my cry Oh Lord, listen to my prayer. This suggests that the King is in dire need, and troubled by the lack of closeness that he no longer feels, he no longer feels the unwavering presence of the Lord. But why does he feel this way? Could it be that King David caused a rift in the relationship with the God of his salvation? This is after all, the man after God’s own heart. This is the king chosen by
God to lead His people, Israel, and to reign and be victorious. What caused the King to pen this Psalm? The king was certain that God would come to his rescue and vindicate him, so let’s look at Psalm 5:1-2, Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament. Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. David obviously knew that God would always be there for him, he had firsthand knowledge of the benefits of being in the presence of God. So, lets look at what else the king prays. He says “from the ends of the earth I call to you when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I, (Psalm 61:2), David knows that in his low estate, there is a Rock that is higher than anything that could come against him. He knows that God has been his refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. David is sad; and rightfully so when he comes to the Lord asking for strength and reassurance. King Saul has put a hit out on him from a fit of jealously, his son Absalom has rebelled against him and attempted to take the kingdom. We can understand the king’s feelings in this, can we not? Some of the consistencies that were a part of King David’s life was in knowing that he could always rely on God in time of trouble. He knew that he could call upon God because God had protected him in the past. He also knew that he could depend on God because God had provided well for him. God had promised many things to David, and He fulfilled them. David was a worshipper who sought the Lord

and reverenced the Lord. David knew that he would praise God at all times because he had an assurance of the continuance of God’s favor to him. We, just as David, may sometimes feel as if we are far from the Lord, we may long to get into His presence, we may feel as if there is no better place to be, and indeed there is not.aWe can come boldly to the throne of grace and find help in our hour of need. We can petition the courts of the King of Glory to hear our earnest plea. We can also take a page from the king and never request of the Lord anything without recognizing who He is. When we realize that there is no one higher than God, our response will be to praise him all the more, even if things remain the same. When we praise, it is for our benefit. We cannot praise God and our inner man remain in turmoil. In the praising, there is a raising! This is good news for us. Psalm 18:6 says, In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. Verse 7 says, The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. This is very good news for us! The Lord hears us from His Holy place and he allows no one to take advantage of His anointed. Psalm 91 echoes the same as does Psalm 61:4 and Psalm 23:6 Psalm 91:1-2 says this: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2. I will say of the Lord,
14 | June 2021
He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Psalm 61:4 says, I long to dwell in your tent forever, and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. Psalm 23:6, Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Let me encourage you in this, no matter what is against you, it cannot be greater than God who is for you. Whatever mountain standing in your way, you have the power and authority to speak to it and remove it. Know this, whenever your heart is overwhelmed, run to the Rock that is higher, wiser, stronger, more secure and impenetrable than anything that can come against you. This Rock is Jehoveh Tsuri: God is strong, reliable, dependable, stable, and a place of protection from your enemies. This is the encouragement that we all can turn to, God has us, and He is for us. He will shield us and take care of us. We need only to call on Him, He will hear our plaintive cry, and he will answer.. Be Encouraged always...

jack people who not only know how to survive tough times, but how to thrive in them. Now, why would anybody be ashamed of that? And I am in good company. Where ever Leontyne Price has gone, she has taken Laurel, Mississippi with her and represented it well. It is a tough little town in the Pine Belt as well. You see it currently on HGTVs Hometown, but you have heard its magnificence in the anointed voice of the Queen Diva Ms. Price for over 60 years now. Even when the state of Mississippi banned her performances, she kept right on lifting up Laurel. It was the OURSTORIES of her Black elders who shaped her and gave her the resilience to go from Laurel to go from the pine trees of Mississippi to the world’s finest opera houses. Their stories straightened her back, held her head high, and helped her sing before dignitaries, queens, and kings. OURSTORIES lifted her where racism and sexism tried to tear her down. As a child of the Pine Belt, my time was spent with Black people who were born in the teens and 20s, survived the Great Depression, plowed whole fields with a stubborn mule for a quarter a day, spent nights in Iwo Jima fighting World War II in segregated army units, and came home to tell me about it. I never saw their stories on television and never read about them in any of my school’s history books – though I went to all-Black elementary and high school. Though these stories were sometimes intensely personal, shared throughout collective Black America, and maybe even known nationally, as an African American Studies Scholar, I learned that they were never widely studied. They were never considered American history at all. They are OURSTORY. OURSTORY is the narrative that we tell about ourselves from one generation to another, told in victory in order to teach, guide and direct, and from a center of love. All that I am and all that I ever hope to be can be traced back to the time I spent sitting at the knees of some elder while we shelled peas or canned pears or picked up pecans or simply sat on the porch and they talked OURSTORY.

BENJAMIN HILKIAH JEHOIAKIM JUDAH WICKEDNESS
CHITTIM INIQUITY JEREMIAH KEDAR ZEDEKIAH
“Guys…this is Missile Morgan” Seeking to overcome the scars from her abusive, alcoholic father, Jesse Cartwright, Anthony’s best friend from childhood, is determined to make something of her life. Tomboyish in every way, at times her stubbornness puts her in direct conflict with Anthony’s other friends. A born fighter, she ultimately proves to be tougher than every boy in the neighborhood and the only friend Anthony can really count on. As Anthony battles his inner demons in his march toward glory, and Jesse struggles through her own personal tragedies and loss, their paths grow apart. Eventually the two dis- cover their lives are somehow intertwined and neither will truly realize his or her dreams without the other. Surpassing the expectations his father had for him, Anthony Morgan is poised to be the biggest phenomenon baseball has seen in years. Anthony’s future is set. He has worked hard for it, dreamed about it all his life, and can practically taste it! However, what Anthony could not foresee was the untimely death of his father—his mentor and hero. This tragedy started a downward spiral of bad decisions, which ultimately threaten Anthony’s life and future in baseball. Beyond the Lies is as captivating as The Natural, as compelling as Love Comes Softly, and at times as humorous as Diary of a Mad Black Woman. It’s a coming of age story that will appeal to the young and old, the sports enthusiast, the romantic, those gripped by human tragedy, and those who celebrate the triumph of the human spirit. “ F r o m P ray e rs a n d Te ar s to Pr a is e a nd Tha nks g iv in g.”
T H E C H A L L ENG E S O F PE LVI C F LOOR DYS F UNCT I ON. BY PAOLA TENNON, RN, BSN, MBA/HCA, CCM In 1943, Ruth Caye Jones, a housewife and pastor’s wife in Pennsylvania was drawn to 2 Timothy 3 which states; “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come...” As she read this chapter a song began composing in her head entitled, “In Times Like These We Need A Savior.” During this time, they were experiencing the fearful days at the height of World War II when despair overshadowed anything good, and all hope seemed to be lost. The allies were bogged down in Italy and other countries and the war was at its peak. In addition, the world economies were at breaking points with rations everywhere. This song offers encouragement in the darkest times and can be applied to any situation and it can bring encouragement to those that are discouraged. The lyrics simply say: In times like these, you need a Savior, in times like these you need an anchor. Be very sure, be very sure, your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! This Rock is Jesus, Yes, He’s the One; this Rock is Jesus, the only One! Be very
26 | June 2021
sure, be very sure; your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock! As Christians, many of us experience brokenness or loss in our lives even though we walk faithfully with the Lord. Nonetheless, we are not exempt from the trouble, pain or suffering that this life may bring. Jesus, himself, states in John 16:33; “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Scripture offers the assurance that God still offers us comfort to help carry us through whatever challenge we may be facing. “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12 The reference scripture for this article is Psalm 61:1-8. In these scriptures we find that King David again demonstrates a godly response to devastating and discouraging occurrences in his life. This
psalm actually would have fit many occasions or conditions in an average person’s life even today. One Bible study commentary explains it this way: In verses 1-4 we find that David begins with prayers and tears, he is crying out to God. When we draw near to God, we can find our way to His throne of grace. And though the heart may be overwhelmed, our spirit can be lifted up to God in prayer. Verses3-7 is an assurance of his confidence in God and verse 8 shows David’s commitment and loyalty to God. This scripture is a reminder that wherever we are or what ever we may be going through, and even though our heart may be overwhelmed; we still have freedom to draw near to God. Even though David begins with prayers and tears, he ends with praise and thanksgiving. I will address this scriptural reference from a health and wellness perspective. And though it can be applied to numerous situations; I have elected to explore a topic that is little known and seldom discussed. Even among some health care professional it is classified as a silent epidemic. The intent of this article is to bring awareness to these conditions, increase our general knowledge base, enlighten as many possible of potential
preventive strategies and treatment options associated with these conditions. The conditions for which I am speaking has to do with pelvic floor disorders (PFD), pelvic floor dysfunction or pelvic floor prolapse (POP). These topics are noteworthy to be shared because so many are suffering silences are unaware that there are options available that can improve their quality of life. For me it is personal, and I am hopeful that with increased awareness, this discussion will prompt those who otherwise may have been reluctant or just did not know how to seek help to step out on faith. I began this journey of exploration for personal reasons but very quickly discovered that there continues to be limited information available for public awareness. During my research I found that I actually have experienced several of the classic symptoms for many years. The symptoms began shortly after the birth of my third child at age thirty in 1979. At that time, there was limited information from the medical team and no information or resources available for which I could obtain, and my only option was surgery. In recent years, I was pleased to find that there are now resources and noninvasive treatment options available, however, public awareness of these topics remains obscure

or completely lacking. Why this Matters? This matters’ because our bodies, our emotions, and our spirituality are all intertwined, and is what gives us our identity, is what determines our physical health, and is what makes us who we are. Psalm 139:14 states; “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” We are God’s creation, body, mind, soul, and spirit; they are all interconnected. So why would we think that what we go through physically or mentally does not impact us spiritually? And, just as the Lord desires for us to grow spiritually, He wants us to take care of these bodies for which he has entrusted us with. And He has given us the tools in which to gain knowledge and wisdom as it relates to our overall wellbeing.
which stabilizes the pelvis and the lower back, 3. Control’s sphincter function of the anus and urethra, thus preventing leakage of urine, feces, and gas. 4. Plays a role in sexual function and 5. Impacts circulation by enhancing blood flow. Pelvic floor disorders (PDFs), occur when the pelvic muscles that supports the pelvic organs becomes weak or damaged. The most common types of pelvic floor disorders include urinary incontinence (UI), fecal incontinence (FI), pelvic organ prolapse (POP)and pelvic pain. These are highly prevalent conditions in women, affecting almost 25% of women in the United States according to the National Institutes of Health. In addition, the American Urogynecologic Society suggest that one out of four women (25%), 20 years or older suffer with PFDs. The most common types of pelvic floor disorders include: Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Pelvic Urinary Incontinence, Pelvic Fecal Incontinence, and Pelvic Pain. Research suggests that one in five people will suffer from a pelvic floor disorder during their lifetime. And one-third of all women and 50 percent of women over the age of 55 are currently affected by a pelvic floor disorder. An estimation of almost 10 percent of these women will undergo surgery for urinary incontinence and conditions or pelvic organ prolapse during their lifetime. Although these conditions have not been deemed life threatening; if left untreated, they can negatively impact one’s lifestyle and potentially lead to additional pelvic floor disorders and may cause severe depression.
“And, just as the Lord desires for us to grow spiritually, He wants us to take care of these bodies for which he has entrusted us with. ”
Due to the personal nature and delicacy of this topic, an indepth description will be limited to general anatomy of the pelvic floor and its functions, organs supported by the pelvic floor; Pelvic Floor Disorders, Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction; research findings and statistics, the emotional impact, and potential treatment options. Let us begin:
The Pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, connective tissues, and nerves in the pelvic area which forms what is sometimes described as a hammock or sling shaped structure that is able to move up and down. These muscles stretch from the pubic bone in the front to the tailbone (coccyx) in the back and provides support for the pelvic organs which includes the bladder, vaginal cavity, uterus in women, prostate in men, and rectum which is the area at the end of the large intestine where your body stores solid waste. Bowel movements and bladder emptying are controlled by contracting and relaxing these muscles. The pelvic floor muscles have five important functions: 1. Provides support for the pelvic organs against gravity and any added downward pressure and is important in the birth process. 2. Provides stability for our inner core

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is the third most common pelvic floor disorder. A prolapse occurs when the pelvic muscles and other supporting tissues becomes weak, which causes the organs in the pelvis to fall out of place. Statistics indicate that many people struggle with more than one pelvic floor disorder. When viewed from a global
perspective, an article published by The Global Library of Women’s Medicine’s (GLOWM) indicated that; Pelvic floor disorders constitute a huge global health problem affecting hundreds of millions of women throughout the world. The prevalence of at least one form of PFDs; (urinary incontinence (UI), pelvic organ prolapses (POP) or fecal incontinence (FI)) has been reported to be as high as 46% globally. The negative effects of these disorders can profoundly influence the quality of life, over all wellbeing, sexual functions, social, sporting, or recreational activities and can have a significant economic impact. Pelvic floor disorder is a fairly common condition that effects both men and women of all ages. Unfortunately, it is vastly undertreated, leaving millions to struggle with life altering symptoms. Often time people are reluctant to discuss problems such as: incontinence, sexual difficulties or pelvic organ prolapse even with their healthcare provider; not realizing that these conditions could be addressed with appropriate medical treatment but only if diagnosed. It is important to note that while pelvic floor disorders become more common as women get older, they are not a normal or acceptable part of the aging process and often can be reversed with treatment according to an article on Colorectal Surgery about pelvic floor disorders frequently asked questions, published by Columbia University Department of Surgery. Pelvic floor dysfunction is when you are unable to control the muscles that help you have a complete bowel movement. It can affect both women and men. The symptoms include: Constipation, straining and pain with bowel movements, unexplained pain in the lower back, pelvis, genitals, or rectum. People with this dysfunction contract their pelvic floor muscles rather than relax them. This interferes with the ability to have normal bowel or bladder control. Causes of pelvic floor dysfunction in women include traumatic injuries to the pelvic area, pregnancy, pelvic surgery, overusing the pelvic muscles, being overweight, advance age, history of lifting or moving heavy objects as well as heredity applies to both male and female.
lead to leakage of urine and bowel issues, Erectile Dysfunction (ED); in some cases, if the nerves or tissues within the pelvic floor are damaged as a result of surgery or radiation, Prostatitis which can have many causes including bacteria, sexually transmitted infections, trauma, or conditions affecting the nervous system such and Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis as denoted by the International Urogynecology Association (IUGA). The following information is taken from Memorial Herrman Hospital in Houston TX and was crossed referenced with multiple resources associated with Pelvic floor disorders, pelvic floor dysfunction, and pelvic floor prolapse. PFD Symptoms most common in Women: • Urinary or bladder control issues: feeling the need or urge to urinate, painful urination or an inability to fully empty the bladder during urination. • Constipation, straining or pain during bowel movements. • Pain or pressure in the vagina or rectum • A heavy or bulging feeling in the vagina or rectum. • Muscle spasms in the pelvic area • Pelvic pain • Bladder pain PFD symptoms that occur only in women: • Unexplained pain in the lower back, pelvis, genitals, or rectum • A frequent need to urinate. • Dyspareunia is pain with intercourse. PFD most common symptoms and conditions in men • Urinary or bladder control issues: feeling the need or urge to urinate, painful urination or an inability to fully empty the bladder during urination. • Constipation, straining or pain during bowel movements. • Pain or pressure in the rectum • A heavy or bulging feeling in the rectum. • Muscle spasms in the pelvic area • Pelvic pain • Bladder pain
Causes of Pelvic floor dysfunction in men can ordinarypeoplemagazine | 29
These are the common PFD symptoms that occur only in men: • The feeling that you need to have several bowel movements during a short period of time. • The feeling of not being able to complete a bowel movement. • Constipation or straining pain with bowel movements • A frequent need to urinate. When you do go, you may stop and start many times. • Painful urination • Pain in your lower back that cannot be explained by other causes. • Ongoing pain in your pelvic region, genitals, or rectum Treatments for Pelvic Floor Disorders for males and females: There are several available treatments for pelvic floor disorders, including both surgical and non-surgical options. The most common non-surgical treatments include: • Physical Therapy • Kegel exercises • Biofeedback • Medications • Behavioral techniques, such as avoiding pushing or straining and learning how to relax the muscles in the pelvic floor area.

The emotional component of any of the forementioned conditions (pelvic floor disorders, pelvic floor dysfunction or pelvic floor prolapse) can significantly impact our mental and emotional well-being leading to feelings of shame, negative body image, loneliness, embarrassment, discouragement, frustration, estrangement, hopelessness, discouragement, poor self-esteem, emotional stress, mental health issues and isolation. The National Association for Continence highlights some concerning statistics. however in the end, they share with us what we can do about incontinence which gives us hope. • It is life-limiting: 90% of patients report feeling either isolated, depressed, or hopeless as a result of their condition. • The stigma is real: 27% of respondents have not spoken with their doctor about their incontinence symptoms, and 50% are uncomfortable talking with close friends or family members about it. • Too many go undiagnosed: 36% of people reporting leakage, frequent trips, and sudden urges were undiagnosed. 27% have not spoken with their doctors at all about their incontinence! • Conditions worsen over time particularly
•
if untreated or noncompliant with treatment: Seeing improvement in incontinence symptoms in the last 12 months is rare. Only 2% of patients have reported improvement in their symptoms in the last year. What can you do about incontinence? Remember that although any of the forementioned conditions may seem hopeless, they can be treated. First learn more about your specific condition, second talk with people who understand and third, find a specialist.
When to seek professional help: Seek professional help when you have bladder or bowel control problems with symptoms such as: • needing to urgently or frequently go to the toilet to pass urine or bowel motions. • accidental leakage of urine, bowel motions or gas. • difficulty emptying your bladder or bowel. • vaginal heaviness or a bulge • pain in the bladder, bowel or in your back near the pelvic floor area when exercising the pelvic floor or during intercourse.
These problems may not necessarily be linked to weak pelvic floor muscles; however, they should be accurately assessed. Who treats pelvic floor disorders: Urogynecologists, or obstetrician/gynecologists who specialize in the care of women with pelvic floor disorders? Urologists, who specialize in the treatment of urinary disorders in women and men. Colorectal surgeons, who provide surgical treatment of the digestive system. We must be mindful of the stigma associated with these conditions because they can actually diminish one’s quality of life. And just as King David was so greatly challenged that he cried out to the Lord, in the end he was able to rejoice and sing praises of thanksgiving. I leave you with this scripture: “Beloved, I wish above all things that you mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 2, KJV)

MA X IMIZE ONL INE S H OPPING SUC CE SS A N D MI N I MIZE RETURNS Have you had to adapt to online shopping over the last year? For some of us, it will be a while before we feel 100% comfortable shopping in the malls. I’d like to share tips to alleviate the stress that can sometimes accompany online shopping. Getting the right size when you can’t try items on like you normally do in dressing rooms can be a challenge. This is where understanding how to use the sizing charts provided on the website comes in handy. Usually, the size chart is located around the item description. It’s important to use your biggest measurement over the others, to ensure the best fit. When dealing with different styles of clothing and fabric it may be prudent to deviate from what the chart says and size up.
34 | June 2021
Using customer reviews is also important. It will give you great insight into whether the fit is true to size or if there are details about the item that aren’t apparent from the online pictures. In order to get the correct size, you may want to purchase multiple sizes and return what doesn’t fit. Many online retailers are offering free returns to make it easier for you to buy more than one size. If this is a new store to you and you have no experience with how the clothing line runs, it could be a good idea to purchase on either side of your normal size. Determining the color of an item online may also be a challenge. Computer screens can distort color a bit, and online pictures or even printed catalogs can be misleading. When you’re in a store you can hold the color up to you and know whether it works or not. Shopping online requires some flexibility. If you’re really excited about a specific item and color isn’t going to be the number one decider (example: you love the shape of the garment and want it and will take it in whatever color works best), you may consider purchasing the same item in more than one color. I suggest finding an area in your home that has great lighting to aid you in assessing your purchases. This will help you tremendously when they’re putting together outfits and reviewing them in their mirror at home. If you haven’t already, invest in a full-length mirror, over the door hooks to hang items you’re reviewing, and possibly rolling racks that would help you review new purchases or to use when auditing your closet. Find the best to position and lighting so you see your clothes and yourself in the best light. I’m here to help. “ S E L F CARE”
I S T H E BE ST CA R E!
Inspirational Words
P SALM 8 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the

angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

FROM WITHIN... BY VERNA V. NICKELBERRY “HEAR my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalms 61:1 Lately we’ve been inundated with the term “Self-Care” is it a new trend or have we came into the realization of how important it is to be an advocate for your own health. Taking an active role in learning about the things that ails you can be overwhelming. Yet it is necessary. So what does self-care looks like? It’s different for everyone, your need or level of self-care will not be the same as the next person. Self-care could simply be taking a long walk, a quiet moments sitting in your back yard enjoying the sounds of nature.
When I am feeling overwhelmed with creating a balance between my personal life and work life, I find myself crying out the God to calm me and praying for inter peace. For me “self-care” is drawing near to God and allowing Him to show me how the created a balance in life. The Bible tells is that we can go to God for everything, and that include “SelfCare”. I know firsthand that He is a healer, a promise keeper! So, I want you to be sure to include God in your “Self-Care,” seek Him when you become overwhelmed with balancing life! And as always, Love, Peace, and Increase… Verna V. Nickelberry
As, I was reading Psalms 61, the first and the second verse spoke to me. ordinarypeoplemagazine | 53
