FROM WITHIN
Happy New Year! It’s 2024! It’s hard to believe that we are in a new year, it seems as if time is moving at lighten speed. Before we can catch our breath from all the distraction of 2023, now 2024 is upon us! However, we must keep moving forward. 2024 will have its own challenges and distractions, but we know that these things only make us stronger and wiser. When you are faced with challenges or distractions don’t become disheartened, meaning losing confidence or hope in yourself, but instead face them head on! They are design to take your focus away from God and His plans for your life. In the book of Matthew 6: 33 it tells us “But seek ye first the kingdom of God…” Staying in the word of God will help you to stay focus and get you through your challenges and distractions. “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings: that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 1 Peter 4:12-13 Wishing you a very prosper 2024! JUST TO ENCOURAGE YOU
A Little Bit of Encouragement By Dr. Jeanette Chestnut-Chester Genesis 1:1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3.And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
The Book of Genesis can be divided into two sections: Primitive History and Patriarchal History. Primitive history records (1) Creation (Genesis chapters 1-2); (2) the Fall of man (Genesis chapters 3-5); (3) the Flood (Genesis chapters 6-9); and (4) the dispersion (Genesis chapters 10-11). Patriarchal history records the lives of four great men: (1) Abraham (Genesis 12-25:8); (2) Isaac (Genesis 21:1-35-29); (3) Jacob (Genesis 25:21-50:14); and (4) Joseph (Genesis 30:22-50:26). Genesis, is the book of beginnings. The beginning consists of the start of creation as stated in Genesis chapter 1. The bible tells us that before anything came to be in the beginning, God was on the scene and creation came to be by the spoken word of God or the Logos. The scripture says that there was a void, and there was nothingness. A void is defined as completely empty. The words “without form” and “void” are translations of the Hebrew words tohu and bohu. Tohu and bohu are often paired together in the Old Testament and portray a “place of chaos,

For the purpose of this article, I have chosen the definition from Britannica which states that: Life is living matter and, as such, matter that shows certain attributes that include responsiveness, growth, metabolism, energy transformation, and reproduction (1). In addition, they define ‘Quality of life’, often abbreviated as QOL, as the degree to which an individual

The biblical reference for this article is the book of Genesis which opens with the creation story. It begins with the words, “In the Beginning God.” And during the wonder of creation, on the fifth day God created life. The book is also filled with stories of God’s people falling short of their calling, but once they refocused on God’s purpose for their lives, they were able to begin again, and so too can we. There must first be a willingness to make a change and with the help of our Heavenly Father we can. Acts 17:28 states, ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ There is also a saying that applies; “Your life is God’s gift to you. What you do with your life is your gift to God.” So how do we begin? We

whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.’ It is important to make one small change at a time. “Lasting change happens when people see for themselves that a different way of life is more fulfilling than their present one,” Eknath Easwaran. We must understand that many of the forementioned problems are identifiable, treatable and in some cases preventable. Knowing your family medical history is also important because many have a predisposition for certain illnesses, but if identified early, work can begin toward prevention or effective management. To take charge of your health, consider your risk factors especially those considered controllable. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, several health conditions, your lifestyle, your age, and family history can increase your risk for heart disease. Interestingly, about half of all Americans (47%) have at least 1 of 3 key risk factors for heart disease: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking (7). My parents didn’t teach me or my brothers about the bible or about God. Nor did they go to a church that you could call you “home” church. I remembered as a child seeing the neighbors get all dressed up on Sundays and always wondered, where are they going? Every Sunday they would do this. They were always having family time. I asked one of the neighbors one day, “Where do you guys go looking all nice every Sunday? “ They told me they go to church and bible study and Sunday school. Then I got curious I asked my parents why are we not going to church? My mom’s reply was we don’t have time or your dad is always working, always some kind of excuse. I didn’t realize
were always busy working and really didn’t have time to get involved with my school much. I do however remember that Thanksgiving and Christmas usually were a lot of fun until the age of , I believe, fourteen. Thanksgiving was always something to look forward to. We would go to my grandparent’s house on her mother’s side for a big pot luck thanksgiving dinner, with all seven of my mom’s brothers and sisters. We had a big family on my mom’s side. Lots of aunts and uncles and lots of cousins. My mom was the oldest of seven children, and I was the oldest granddaughter. My grandparents had a Hugh house it was three stories with a basement. There were a lot of hiding spaces and lots of laughter and music. My Grandma had a big grand piano, organ, drums, an old wooden xylophone, with a lot of wind instruments and a drum set. My grandpa was a good provider for his family and did the best he could back in those days

We went on so many adventures together. Like Disneyland, Knots Berry Farm, magic mountain. The beach was a fun time also. My Aunt was pretty well off and she had a big house with a swimming pool. There usually was fourteen of us that would show up every summer. We still laugh about the good times from those days. We had made up our own song even, so when we went somewhere in public we would sing. We are the cousins the mighty mighty cousin, everywhere we go the people want to know who we are so we tell them, we are the cousins, the mighty, mighty cousins. And it went on and on and on. Fun
to pick wild boysenberries and raspberries and we ate so many of them we left with belly aches. I remember a trip to Utah to see my dad uncle’s cow farm and where his family was from. There was a cheese factory where we got to see how cheese was made. I will never forget the fresh taste and how we called the cheese squeaky cheese because it made a funny sound eating it because it was so fresh. Another trip we had gone the sequoia national park, where the trees were so big and so beautiful. One thing when we were on the road traveling my dad would never stop and pull into a bathroom once we got on the road. Now I am laughing while typing this. We had to use an old empty steal coffee can with rough edges from cutting open the lid. It was easy for my brothers to use, but can you image as a little girl with no privacy trying to go with a big coffee can
between your legs. That was an adventure. To say the least. The last time we went camping that I can remember with the family was at Lake Powell with my dad’s brother and his two kids. These were my cousins that we rarely

INSPIRATIONAL WORDS
Psalms 139 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attainunto it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the
lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were
written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

ORDINARY PEOPLE ––––––––––––––––––– Advertise With Us ––––––––––––––––––– Why advertise with Ordinary People Magazine (OPM) Advertising in print yields greater increases in brand awareness, brand favorability and purchases intent than online or TV advertising. Advertising in magazine media is effective: Over 90 percent of women 18-34 took action after seeing an ad in both a magazine and its website, and research from Dynata shows that magazine prints ads provide brand lift when it comes to growing consumer awareness and purchase intent. Fifty-seven percent of adults ages 18-49 say ads in magazines fit well with the content, more than other media. The number of magazine website advertisers increased 23 percent in 2021 vs. 2020
