Fashion Designer Competition “Inspirations” - Curb Gear My inspired design is a two piece designed with a corset top and fitted pant, layered with the sparkle of acrylic jewels from head gear to toe. Ruffles on the corset and pant simulate the wind of the racing cars on the speedway, while the model walks. Along with the jeweled helmet and racing gloves, this is Grand Prix gone Avent Garde, by Curb Gear.

Ricky Lindsay This gown features strips of sheer fabric draped in overlapping layers to create rings around the track inspired by the Honda Grand Prix. As the “rings” of the track cascade onto the floor the layers expand into sheer trailing ruffles symbolic of the drivers leaving their competition in the smoke. This Gown was designed by Ricky Lindsay.

Dali Hernandez My inspiration for this collection was drawn from the fire that ignites the engines on the race track. The materials used were inspired by the smooth feel of leather that gives the illusion of power and strength. We see the lines on the race track structured and well outlined just as the gown would be worn by powerful women that are not afraid to use their strength but still can show their playfulness with movement of the garment. Michelle Barcia Imagine technology that pushes the limits of performance and durability further than any previous dress design. Highly innovative materials, constructed with precision and a keen eye for form and function come together to create unparalleled design featuring sleek lines that contour the body like a car to the road. Leaving its mark on its path, notice the tread like marks designed at the top of the dress. A mark never to be forgotten by Designer Barcia.

VMART Inspired by his love of music, this Florida abstract artist opens his gallery for the world to see.

T

PHOTOS TAKEN BY JONATHAN RIDGELY JONATHANRPHOTO.COM

Timothy Raines a Native Texan who

most recently moved to Florida from Austin has been an artist his whole life. Timothy won his first national award at the age of six. His current style developed after the year 2000 when he switched from realism to abstract concepts.

“Most people compare my work to Jackson Pollack, though it is more organized like pointillism. My inspirations are widely varied but I would say that music is what gets me from start to finish of a painting and inspires the outcome the most, even though it does not contribute to the subject matter choice itself. My goal is to be the most influential artist in luxury lifestyle art, following in the footsteps of LeRoy Neiman” said Timothy. Timothy Raines is opening a flagship gallery and studio in downtown St.Petersburg Florida at One Progress Plaza. It is a premiere building and location in downtown and the space occupies two floors on the corner with a lot of light and great exposure. A grand opening event for the gallery is scheduled for March 16th, 2013 from 7:00 pm to 11:00pm.

ARTIST STATEMENT Timothy Raines paints the shiny-object-ive-ness that makes up a Mans life – from childhood to old age. The part that some hide or control better than others, yet we all have had at one point in life. The ”gotta have it, be it, own it, drive it, live it“ drug your ego craves. Fame, competition, speed, sound, strength. The mantra is “he who dies with the most toys wins”. This is the crossroads of what it is to be human versus animal – our instincts for the best mane, most colorful feathers, best performance – these things scratch an itch we will never tame. From an execution standpoint, I strive to find the balance of Divine Proportion and derive satisfaction from the physics and geometry of my work at the macro and micro levels. Chaos and order seem to coexist at both levels and that is the blueprint of our Universe. 7 | VM Spring 2013

DAY TO EVENING MAKEUP

M Makeup application is an art. When you apply makeup, you are like an artist who uses paintbrushes to create beautiful strokes on canvas. As with an

artist, the higher the skill level and the better quality the materials used, the more pleasing the masterpiece will be to the eye. Experience with one’s own face comes from practice. Trying a variety of brushes, makeup brands and techniques will help you find a look that emphasizes your assets and helps diminish facial flaws such as dark under eye circles, acne and scars. No one is more the master artist with a brush than Monique McLaughlin. She captured the beauty of each of our models while showing us a more natural day look and a glamorous evening look. Hair and jewelry help to complete the transformation.

about monique

Monique did makeup and hair on her friends in high school for proms and homecomings and considered their faces her canvas. She started doing bridal makeup and hair part-time in 1999 when she was living in Colorado, working a corporate job. She decided to make that leap to go to cosmetology school (Artistic Nails and Beauty Academy). Her friends and family thought she was crazy to give up a great paying and secure job. She learned the basics in school, though she was already self-taught on hair styling prior to attending school. She attended many post-graduate advanced courses to hone her craft (including attending the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Miami and studying under Celebrity/Movie Makeup Artist James Ryder in Los Angeles). Photographers who had seen her wedding work eventually started asking her to do fashion and beauty shoots. A career was born. Much of her business comes from repeat clients. She shares, “building a rapport is key, whether it is with the client, talent or the photographer.” Monique’s range includes clean beauty to the more avant-garde looks. She continues; “people always ask which one I like doing better — hair or makeup — and I say that it depends on what the focus of the shoot is. I like to create and enhance beauty! It’s my passion! I love seeing the excitement on my client’s faces when they see their transformation. Hearing all the compliments they receive makes my day because I know how good that feels. What better job to have, than to put a smile on someone’s face and make someone feel better about themselves?” Monique spends her time doing photo shoots, fashion shows, video/film and private clients (photoready makeup and hair for weddings and events as well as haircuts/color). Monique shares her products with you to get the featured looks.

M

My name is Brian James. I am a Professional Fashion, Headshot, and Wedding

Photographer in Tampa Bay, with a studio in fabulous downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. Photography is the one thing I have always enjoyed. I fell in love with this art when I developed that first print in my high school darkroom. They offered a photo one and a photo two class; I took the photo two class three times! I wrote my own curriculum, pushed myself to try new things, and I haven’t stopped since. Many things have changed in this industry over the years, but how I see through my camera has not. I strive to make creative portraits that tell a story and capture an audience. Whether that is for a fashion editorial, advertisement, modeling portfolio, musician promo or even a high school senior, making photographs that get noticed is the end goal. I have to give recognition and thanks to the people who have helped make my photography possible. Behind the scenes is a team of talented people working together to make these great images. Hair stylists, makeup artists and wardrobe stylists are vital aspects to the success of a photo shoot and I thank all of you for your hard work. I also thank my friends, family and past subjects for the inspiration. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for you. I will continue to push myself, learning more with each experience and every exposure. - Brian James BrianJamesGallery.com
