WVCV GENERAL MEETING THURSDAY AUGUST 23RD AT 8PM

STUDLEY PARK BOATHOUSE KEW Not TUESDAY AUGUST 21ST as prevoiusly advertised.

Meals & Drinks available at ClubHouse prices prior to the meeting. So come along and enjoy the new atmosphere, VW entertainment, door prizes and more....

Studley Park BoatHouse, Boathouse Rd. Kew (Mel. Ref. 2D E8) or visit www.studleyparkboathouse.com.au for full venue details.

President’s Report Michael Cronin, VWCV President First I would like to remind everybody that the August General Meeting is on Thursday 23 and not the Tuesday 21st as normal, it is also at a different location (Studley Park BoatHouse) see the Ad for details. To those that are not aware the club having the use of the Henty room for free is likely to stop soon and as the going rate is $500.00 we are starting to look for alternate venues. If you have any other ideas please let the Committee know. July saw the Christmas in July cruise up into the hills, another great day out

organised by Kingsley although I’m not sure where he gets Santa from, he always looks a bit dodgy? I think Kingsley found him under a bridge. Sep. 8 & 9 will see the President’s Pleasure, what’s the Presidents Pleasure you may ask, well this year it is a cruise to the Shepperton swap meet, Sunday September 9th. If you haven’t been before there is plenty for junk for everyone. The plan is to leave on Saturday morning, taking a relaxing drive to Shepperton stopping at one of the wineries for a picnic lunch and any Op Shops we see open.

That night staying at the Victoria Lake Holiday Park. Ph 1800 880 070 or www.viclakeholidaypark.com.au. Then on Sunday, we will be ready to head out to the swap meet. If you are interested give me a ring and let me know. Details will be up on the web site soon and at the next general meeting. In finishing don’t forget the Annual General meeting in September and keep an eye out for the upcoming motor sports events, you don’t have to race just come and watch the wannabe boy racers, although I think some of them haven’t been boys for a long time.

A merry Christmas in July was certainly had by all who attended the Christmas in July cruise and luncheon on Sunday July 22. It was pleasing that the day began with complete sunshine after what seemed like weeks of cold miserable weather. 19 vehicles and 51 people participated in the very scenic cruise from Bundoora to St Andrews. It was terrific to see many getting into the joyful spirit by decorating themselves and/or their VW in traditional Christmas trim.

CHRISTMAS in JULY St Andrews Hotel, St Andrews 2007

The cruise travelled via the developing suburbs of South Morang and Mernda then on to Whittlesea. The very narrow and windy Humevale Road meandered gracefully around the Sherwin Ranges on route to Kinglake West. Spectacular, elevated views of the distant city and surrounding countryside greeted us on the approach to St Andrews. The convoy arrived at St Andrews Hotel around 12.15pm.

A warm, cosy area was allocated to the VW Club and all tables were superbly decorated to enhance the Christmas theme. Once seated, the yummy home made minestrone soup was served, which was followed closely by the wonderful Christmas dinner. This was followed by a break where Santa appeared and gave out goodies to everybody.

Santa also drew the lucky door prizes which included bottles of wine, model VW’s and chocolates. Dessert finished off the fantastic luncheon. Many thanks to all members and their families and friends who attended, and who helped make another memorable VWCV Christmas in July. Kingsley Morrison
