Paul’s Ramblings > Paul Kinsey - VWCV Club President Welcome to the February edition of the Wagensville News. Well, another year has commenced and already one month has elapsed. Firstly, a Happy New Year to all for 2006 which promises to be a very exciting year for the Club. Those members who attended the December General Meeting last year were very impressed with the Club’s latest acquisition of the Data Projector. This will be of great assistance in the communication of Club details, photos of Club events, CDs and the screening of DVDs. I would like to thank Andrew Ermel for his excellent work in researching and purchasing this projector and associated equipment. Our first event for the year is the cruise to Hanging Rock on Sunday February the 12th. For the Club to assemble all our cars together on the day we need to leave Calder at 9am sharp. However, prior to this we need to purchase advance tickets at the van at Calder, so please leave plenty of time before the 9am start. The Club will provide a BBQ for all Club members who attend. The Kennett River Weekend from the 3rd to the 5th March has had a tremendous response from members, so much so, that the event is now booked out. I’m sure that all who attend will have a fantastic weekend. As mentioned at the December general meeting, VicRoads are proposing to modify the CH Plate procedures and through the AOMC, our club has been asked for comments on the VicRoads proposal. The committee has prepared a response and we need to get members input to this response. Therefore, at the February meeting we will raise this as an agenda item so please be prepared to discuss. Committee member John Stevens, who has organised the Central Australian trip later
in the year, has arranged the General Meeting in April at Ray’s Outdoors at Nunawading where the store will stay open from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. There they will offer huge discounts on outdoor gear which will be of special interest to members and in particular those going on the central Australian tour. However, the date of the meeting has to be changed to Tuesday 11th April so please don’t forget to change you diaries. Finally, the committee passes on a big “GET WELL” to one of our Club’s life members, Dave Evans who is not well at the moment. Get well soon Dave, as we miss you at our meetings and the big surprises you bring to show us all. What model will Dave bring this month? I’ll see you at the cruise to Hanging Rock on Sunday the 12th. •

2006 National Bug-In Update > Details of the 2006 Bug-In to be held in South Australia... Thank you to those who have returned interim attendance slips. They have helped enormously in setting the final costing for the weekend. Please print, complete and return the Registration Form, together with your payment, as soon as possible but by 17th March at the latest. At this stage there have been no changes from the first update sent out with the interim attendance slip (and currently on the Club's new website at vwcsa.com.au) with the exception of the venue for the Motorkhana. The venue for this is just 10 km from the main BugIn Headquarters. We have adapted the form devised by the West Australian Club last year (with thanks and appreciation!) and we think everything is self-explanatory. Please complete Section 1 (either Option 1 OR Option 2) AND Section 2. We have tried to keep costs down as much as possible but with an extra event or two. The Saturday will be a busy day for most people but we hope the program will provide a memorable experience in South Australia and an enjoyable holiday for those attending. Our biggest problem is accommodation at the main venue, which is pretty well taken. However, some attendees have been able to secure accommodation at the Long Island Caravan Park. For your information, note that those people not on email, and whose names and addresses we have from the 'Bug-In Book' will receive a hardcopy registration form in the mail in the next day or two. However, please feel free to pass the form on to any other Club
Members who may be interested in the event. This invitation is to members of all Volkswagen Clubs in Australia, although the Car Show and Shine (from 9:00 - 12:00 on Saturday morning) will be open to other vehicles also. Further details on the classes will follow although remember this event is not another 'Day of the Volkswagen' so the number of entries, and classes, will be smaller in number. Outdoor Shop Group Membership > John Stevens
With the level of interest that is currently being demonstrated in trips and weekends away, like the upcoming booked-out Kennett River Trip, ‘Round Victoria Adventures’ and also general overnight camp-outs the club has made arrangements with three outdoor stores that will provide terrific benefits to both individual members and the VWCV. These arrangements provide for membership of group schemes with Anaconda Adventure Store in Canterbury Road, Bayswater and all Rays Outdoors stores and a general discount that applies at all Aussie Disposals stores. The deal is:• Aussie Disposals will now give a 10% discount to all VWCV members in any of their Victorian stores on production of the VWCV membership card. Arrangement is now effective. • Anaconda has given me a big supply of their Ultimate Adventure Club membership application forms. All our club members need to do is complete the application and send it off (electronically is OK) to Anaconda. Once processed Anaconda will offer VWCV members various discounts on store brands,
14
gas refills, rental rates, sales brochures and invitations to their Ultimate Adventure Club events and discount nights. 5% of the value of all member sales is directed to VWCV. • Rays Outdoors has given me a big supply of membership applications, pre-paid return mail envelopes, membership cards and covering information. Again, these will be made available to our members at meetings and all they need to do is complete the application and send it off. Once completed Rays will offer 6.5% discounts to members store wide on all lines, 3.5% of sales back to the club and access to special larger discount programmes. This applies at all Rays stores. Please come and see me at any club meeting for the application forms. If you are already a member of either the Anaconda or Rays schemes it is suggested that you re-apply under the new arrangement and cancel your existing membership so that the club can get the benefit of the % of sales rebate. The club is also planning a very special night at Rays Outdoor Store in Nunawading on Tuesday 11 April 2006. Details appear elsewhere in this magazine. This will be a great opportunity to get product information, gain big discounts on a huge range of outdoor goods and participate in raffles/give aways. Please put this date in your diaries now so you don’t miss out. •
Kennett River Update > Cheryl Ermel We have had a bigger than expected response to the Kennett River Weekend. As a result, the caravan park has advised that all the allocated sites and cabins have been fully booked out. For those who were thinking about coming and have not booked a site, you will need to negotiate a site with the Kennett River Caravan Park, or find someone who is willing to share a site. For all those who have booked sites, you will now need to send a complete registration form and your payment ($10 per person) as soon as possible. A copy of the forms is on page 25 of this magazine. I will be using these forms to work out the amount of food and drink that I will need to buy for the weekend. So if you don’t send in your forms, then you will not be included in the catering. I need to have all the forms and payments by Friday 24th February. I will not be accepting any forms or payments on the actual weekend without prior notice. Send your completed forms and payments to:
Volkswagen Club of Victoria Kennett River Weekend GPO Box 1215, Melbourne Victoria 3001 I will be also looking for people to help out on the weekend. On Saturday, we need to have one person/car who is willing to lead down the VW convoy from Pt Cook petrol station (9am) down to Kennett River. Also importantly when we are all down on Saturday, we will need assistance in setting up and cooking the meals. Lastly, don’t forget your VW, bathers, towels, buckets and spades, surfboards, fishing and camping gear as the beach is clean, the surf is up, the fish are running and lots of VW enthusiasts are coming along. If anyone would like to help out with the VW convoy, or has special dietary requirements or any general queries, please give me a call 03 9369 1360 any weekday between 7pm and 10pm. •
Please note: According to the Kennett River Caravan Park booking information, there is no check in after 9 pm and then only after 7pm by prior arrangement. Also under access boom gate card it states only one car per site.
