Hi everyone and we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and great start to 2010. It's hard to believe that we are already a month onto the second decade of the new millennium. How time flies. This is the first club magazine for 2010 and already so much activity has happened. We kicked off the festive season with a club Christmas Party at Lloyds place in Eltham couple of weeks out from Christmas. An enjoyable time was had by all in attendance. Santa even showed up and rewarded those who had been extra good with some VW goodies. Thanks to Lloyd Davis and John Goodison for hosting this event and providing food and refreshments. Fast forward to 2010 and no sooner had the champagne corks popped and New Years hangovers subsided were into our first event for the year. A group of about dozen VW's attended the Kustom Nationals Weekend held on Philip Island. Our group of VW's including Kombis, Karmans, Type 3's and Beetles contrasted well against the large group of GM, Ford, Dodge, Hot Rods and generally all things V8. The highlight of this show is circulating on the Philip Island race track. If you haven't been to the Kustom Nationals before, it's well worth adding it to the calendar for 2011. At the time of writing this months report we have a number of events out in front of us during February. The South East DubFest Watercooled VW show was happening on Sunday the 6th Feb. Dom and the Watercoolers have put a massive effort into organising this show and we are sure that it was a huge success. Then on Sunday the 15th of Feb we have one of the biggest annual classic car events in Victoria, the Picnic at Hanging

Rock. The VWCV has attended this event for the past few years, and in that time we have collected a couple of awards for the best represented club also. Let's see if we can have a bigger and better turn out of VW's of all types for 2010. Contact Michael Cronin for cruise details. The following weekend we have the VW only Drag Racing event at the South Coast Raceway located in historic Portland. This will be an action packed weekend with drag racing, show and shine and off road action to choose from over the weekend.

Then there is the VW Jamboree at Caribbean Gardens on the 21st March. In amongst all this activity we also have the first general meeting for 2010 at the Bells Hotel in South Melbourne on Tuesday the 23rd of February. Ideal time to bring along all those VW goodies you got from Santa and have brag about it. So plenty of VW activities to keep the most hard core Vee Dubbers happy. MARCH March 13th - 14th Kennett River Camp Out. (see Ad for details).

Day of the Volkswagen 09 Sunday the 15th of November 2009 dawned fine and clear and provided a perfect day for the VW Club of Victoria's 2009 Day of the Volkswagen. And what an absolute ripper of a day it was too. The Cranbourne Turf Club was selected as the venue again for 2009 and with the recent regular rain in Melbourne the gardens and turfed areas were in perfect condition. Against this back drop the VeeWee's of all types and models on display looked so very colourful. The wetlands (watercooled VW's area) was packed to capacity for the 2009 event, with a number of quality entrants from NSW and SA water coolers making the trek to Melbourne to enjoy a VW packed weekend. The Melburg Luft Rat Hill was also jam packed to capacity. For some added visual interest we also had a very nice display of tasty Karmann Ghia's courtesy of the Karmann Ghia Club of Australia, Audi's provided by the Audi Club of Victoria, a sprinkling of 356 and 911 Porsches throw in for good measure. But the main game for this years event was a celebration of the 60th Year of the VW Kombi with the Kombi Cavalcade. The prototype Kombi was originally released to

an eager market on the 16th of November 1949. To celebrate the 60 years anniversary we invited Kombi owners across all years 1949 thru to 2009 to submit their VW for consideration and inclusion in the cavalcade of 60 Kombi's. We ended up a few model years short of the 60 Kombis, but we did have a nice selection ranging from an early 1953 Barndoor thru to a very late model watercooled Camper. The cavalcade drive through procession was a real highlight of the early afternoon and once all the Kombis were assembled in date order, the cavalcade presentations began. All cavalcade participants were awarded with an exclusive Cavalcade of Kombis enamel badge. The 2009 Day of the VW also boasted some firsts for the Victorian event. A number of kid's activities, including funfair rides, plaster mould painting and slot car challenge kept the little ones and not so little ones entertained. This allowed mum and dad to check out the VW's, spend some money at the swap or trader stands or just relax and soak up the surroundings. We had Fletch, from the Channel 31 show Classic Resto's, on hand with his tireless

Christmas at Lloyds is becoming as traditional as Christmas itself and once again Lloyd Davies and John Goodison hosted the VWCV Christmas party. Lloydʼs garage was just the place for Club members to wind down for the year and get into the festive mode with great food on the barby, cold drinks in the esky and some beautiful examples of the marque we love so much, and in the wise words of Shannons, to look and admire and even touch if you want. A new attraction from Lloyd was a cut away working gearbox that looked very impressive. The afternoonʼs activities included some slot car challenges, a raffle where nearly everyone won a prize and a visit from Santa being the star attraction. We were also treated to a screening of Classic Restos Day of the Volkswagen 2009 with Fletch so it was very enjoyable to settle back for half an hour and re-live the Day Of.

Editorʼs Note When I was still a young boy back in my hometown in Malaysia, I saw the very first VW. It was a black Superbug belongs to my tuition teacher treated as a daily drive. In my mind: “What an ugly looking car”! With a couple of friends, we were trying to push that car away to somewhere else where our teacher couldʼt find it. Well, I hopped in, my friends are all getting ready in front of the car, one... two... three... everyone start to push. The car is not moving at all, everyone starring at me! The car is in 1st gear, thatʼs why not moving. Still a young boy, not knowing to put it in neutral, looking half a day for reverse gear, couldʼt find. Our plan failed. After years, New Beetle released. I were so attracted to it, trying to persuade my parents to buy one of them, they told me to own it in my dream. As years passing by, I then slowly turned to Japanese Sports Car. In 2008, I arrived in Melbourne to pursue my study as a motor mechanic, I then joined J&F Motors in Richmond, gaining my practical experience and hours, from there I were converted to Volkswagen once again. Looking at VWs everyday, lots of information from workmates,

The location is the beautiful town of Stanthorpe, in the Granite Belt region of Queensland, best known for its Wineries, Fruit growing and Arts and Crafts. For Registration Forms and further information please contact:

Cool looking T3 notch

On behalf of the Club I would like to thank Lloyd and John for organising the day and providing the food and drink, it was a great day and a fitting end to a great year of VW activities.

The VW Club Vic used drive through judging of the Show and Shine entrants the for 2009 event. This was a first for the club and the drive thru judging was generally considered to be a better option. Judging was all done and dusted by 11.00am, show entrants parked and enjoying the day. Important stats for the day were. Over 500 vehicles on display through out the venue, 250 VW entered in the Show and Shine. Of these 160 Show and Shine entrants used the show and shine pre-entry option and secured a very nice Day of the VW 2009 tee shirt. Around 2.30pm the process of awarding the Show and Shine trophies for 24 specific VW model categories, 8 best of categories, 3 judges choice categories and 2 presidents choice categories commenced. By 3.30 the show and shine presentations were all done and dusted and the Day of the Volkswagen 2009 was over for another year. Congratulations again to all the Show and Shine trophy winners. The standard of the VW's entered in the various categories gets better every year. The VWCV would like to take the opportunity to thank our Day of the VW 2009 main sponsors, Volkswagen Group Australia, Shannons, Volkswagen Magazine Australia and Volkwerke. Thanks also to our many supporters, trophy sponsors, show bag item contributors, and traders that all contributed to the success of the day. A massive thank you goes to the Day of the VW organising committee and the many volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the day ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all in attendance. Planning has already started on Day of the VW 2010. And as we are entering the second decade of the new millennium we are keen to make our main event even bigger and better next year.

camera man Brett shooting a Day of the VW feature episode that was aired late in December 2009. Fletch enjoyed talking and filming VW enthusiasts and finding out about all things VW during the course of the day. He even took the controls of a 54 Barny Split Sunroof and gave people rides around the grounds in the afternoon. He actually seemed reluctant to return the Barny to its rightful owner. Maybe we have a new VW convert. The diversity of the VW's on display really impressed both Fletch and Brett. If you missed the Day if the VW episode, or want to enjoy it again, you can watch it on the Channel 31 web site. www.c31.org.au/

Clubs Permit Scheme (CH Plate) Update thinking should own a cool, and of course a budget old school. Ended up owning a 1970 Beetle, then I joined Volkswagen Club of Victoria. Original plan was just to join cruises, car shows, to get some fun out of my veedub. Few months later, encouragement came from committee members, then was given a chance to try out on the Editorʼs duty. This issue is my first production with a major help from ex-editor, Tony. I would like to firstly, thanks J&F Motors for the converting, committee members and all members of Volkswagen Club of Victoria for this great opportunity and this extreme cool experience and also not forgetting Tony for his major help on this February Wagensville. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it, I will try my best to produce the best. Lastly, there is a good news and bad news to tell... Bad news first, might be a busy year because this is my last year of study, heavy loaded assignment and monthly club newsletter to catch up. Good news is... I finally found out the reverse gear in those air-cooled VWs. Lawrence Lee - VWCV Editor

The process of the new CH PLATE scheme is progressing well through the Beurocracy. The Scheme will be based on a log book for 45 or 90 days. However eligibility will be more stringent. As part of the process, the club on behalf of the members sent a submission to Vicroads supporting the new rules. The Association of Motoring Club Inc. (AOMC) is hoping that the new scheme will be inplace by the next election, if not the majority of the work will be done that a change of Government will not effect it and it will be implace early 2011 at the latest...
